The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Frawley will be the number one priority to get signed when Roos arrives. I can't see Frawley wanting to move from one basket case on the move up to another basket case on the way down.

Frawley will be back to all Australian with us next year.

Bonjour everyone,

I am pumped after Paul Roos' statement tonight. This combined with the rumours of the family and cash incentives to coach us seems convincing to me that he will be our coach.

But on Facebook (Yes I know, COMPLETELY RELIABLE) I saw a rumour that has been untold of thus far. Paraphrased, It reads:

- An interstate on baller has been offered a ton of money by our club (Possibly Adams, Swallow)

- Working on bringing another on baller of the same level of talent

- Looking at a Melbourne-based ruckman who has played '80 odd games' and doesn't want to play for the coach for a defender and a draft pick.

- At least 10 delistings this year and most of the players know who they are.

Regarding the 3rd point, I think for numerous reasons that the players are McEvoy for Frawley and a pick.

- McEvoy has played 84 games

- Frawley is a defender and has links to St Kilda through Spud

- Melbourne would target someone who will help their midfield through hit-outs in exchange for a surplus of tall defenders (Tom McDonald plays on Frawley's opponent whilst Col Garland is switched to a taller man that he is capable of guarding.)

- St Kilda, as stated many times on Fox Footy has a major shortage in the field of 23-27 year olds and also a shortage of premium defenders as they have guys like Blake (retiring), Roberton isn't superb like Frawley but useful playing as the 2nd Defender and Sam Gilbert is not really a strong defender as he is a rebounder.

Hypothetically if this was to happen, I would have mixed feelings. We are losing someone who is seriously strong at holding the amazing forwards of the game and throwing Tom McDonald into the fire quite early. But this wouldn't be as much of a problem if our midfield could win the footy in the middle through the gained Hit-outs.

Take it for what it is worth :)

Mcevoy doesn't hold a candle to Frawley as a player, Chip is the best full back in the comp imo, if we aren't desperate to keep him something is seriously wrong.

if they were to offer that deal for Tom Mcdonald i think we would look at it.

I thought Frawley was contracted until the end of 2014??????Can someone advise?????

Doesn't mean he can't be traded...

Anyway, this situation is pretty ridiculous. REVILOLI states that he 'believes' the players involved are Frawley and McEvoy, that's not the rumour. It's ridiculous that we'd even begin to consider that trade - McEvoy is a half decent ruckman while Frawley, as someone stated above, is close to the best full back in the league. It's laughable.

Geez it's just a guess. I used the word 'believe' as an expression 'I'm guessing that the players are.." . Don't twist my words.

But I think with the signing of Paul Roos, there is much more incentive for an uncontracted guy to stay. This deal probably wouldn't happen if that was the case.

Mav weller cut from GC suns

MAVERICK WELLER is definitely one to grab. 20 yr old. Physically strong. Good pace. Boy from Tassie who also likes the inside mid role. As addelisted free agent, he is a must. Suns have a surplus of mids so he was considered excess.

With Gawn, Spencer, Fitzpatrick and at a pinch Clark, we do not need another ruck option. And that is with the understanding (and hope) of trading Jamar and pick 2 for Adams from GWS. But regardless, Frawley is the most important and valuable player on our list and is worth 2 of McEvoy.

You're hoping to trading Jamar and pick 2 for Adams? I'm hoping you're either joking or have left some parts of that trade out.

Nonetheless I completely agree McEvoy for Frawley is a joke.

I hope that you would have second thought on that after watching McDonalds run out of the backline last Sunday!

As a minimum I would hope of getting Adams plus pick No. 10 but frankly I would prefer to use pick 2 on either Boyd or the best midfielder available and hope to entice Adams with $$$$ and the lure of Roos!

LIke to see them get Swan move to GWS. I don't think so.

Wouldn't have though so either. Swan comes across to me as the type of guy that would just retire instead.

I just read that Mumford is on the market again, he'd be nice to have in the centre square. Jamar appears on his last leg, Gawn can't tap out an entire game and spencer is the 3rd option. Thoughts?

I understood Mummy went on big money to the Swans. Cats couldn't match their offer. Will take a decent offer.

Pies have made some room in their cap and big Mummy would be a good get for them for 3/4 years teaching Grundy & Witts the craft

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
