If I was a Roos there would be no hurry.

Watch the next few weeks and see how the payers respond. Work out whether there is a chance he could rebuild it and move from there. He has no time pressure.

I would suspect theres a good deal of weight behind this scenario. As others suggest though the very nature of the AFL uttering his name makes the whole thing a curious situation.

Yes Vlad will of course say things like, well we dont actually Run a club, We dont actually put Directors into clubs and we dont know much about Coaches but that just classic Self Effacing 101 rubbish

For all intents and purposes please note:

Mark "Bomber" Thompson (Ess assistant)

Ken Bomba Shelton.(st kilda ex-coach) From Bomba the Jungle Boy. Ken looked like Bomba as a kid.

No biggie but it keeps coming up.

Dont you mean "all intensive" purposes :)

historically a good point, though we did just manage to keep a coach sacking secret for a whole weekend. baby steps!

Agreed. This provides me a semblance of faith.

Been reported on SEN that PJ has spoken to Roos who said not at the moment, but PJ is still hopeful he will accept down the track

Playing coy one would hope.

Something fishy going on that's for sure. Roos being all coy about the job & the article six weeks back RE the AFL sounding out Roos. He's had plenty of chances to rule himself out but just keeps the door open slightly.

Posted

Roos is probably waiting to see what the players bring to the table today and the rest of the year

if they want a great coach to come to the club then todays the day to start swaying him

COme on boys, crush the Saints

Theres theatre here.

Only at the end of Act1 currently ;)

At least we have something to look forward to now instead of being disappointed.

Or just playing the game. More than likely has 3 or even 4 suitors sniffing around. Why would he want to make any decisions this early IF he's decided to get back into it? Can cherry pick what's best for himself and family.

This is a really good point, Chippy. It does present a certain conundrum. Bruised egos are a funny thing. Perhaps the mouths that opened are currently regretting their lapse? However, if the MFC has the potential to leak like a sieve, the AFL must also be vulnerable to such a lapse.

Let's hope that Roos simply accepts or has accepted.

& this might be a part of the reason the AFL have to take the reigns for a period.... i like it... too many ego's at the home of sport. & too many fast tongues.

I expect you'll change your avatar next season?

Article on AFL website reiterating pj's comment that Roos isn't super keen. Was able to speak to the person I know today who just smiled when asked.

no idea what's going on to be honest...

Barring free kicks in the square to the Saints, we would've lost by A LOT less.

Roos would see and know this.

Quality players out: Frawley, Clark, Grimes, Viney and depending on who you talk to - Jamar.

A smile usually means good things.

I think the person he knows will be soon unemployed like my previous info provider - m. Bate...

Wow! Never thought I'd see the day, when I'd be more intrested in the unknown new board members, than next weeks match....jeez...

Put yourself in the shoes of Paul Roos

Other than his family position there would be numerous requirements and changes to the club he would like to see happen

Paul would want to be successful or he would simply just say NO instead making statements that basically say maybe leaving his options open

Jackson has so far got the ball rolling and with the help of the AFL will take time to fix these to the level of satisfaction to entice someone like Paul Roos to take on the senior coaching position

Paul would be more than likely be looking closely at the players who represent the MFC on game day and what is happening at Casey

I have faith in what Peter Jackson is trying to implement as he too would want to be successful

I am confident that the next coach of the MFC will be a long term candidate and build the list to a competitive AFL standard

Anything better than that is a bonus

I long for the day when every other club in this competition hate us again

Every time Roos says no, it bumps his price up.

He's not stupid.

Every time Roos says no, it bumps his price up.

He's not stupid.

The point is he hasn't said No

Paul Roos would want to be rewarded but his motivation to succeed would be a far greater incentive

The Saints threw money at Blight who was a proven coach and probably still capable

We all know how that ended

Stage 1 is complete. The removal of Schwab, McLardy & Neeld.

Stage 2 - the appointments ... Roos must be the # 1 target for MFC coach. No more assistants trying to be senior coaches. We demand a proven premiership winning coach.

I wonder about Craig's comment - that a coach needs the passion to do this. Now, if drive, passion and commitment are key (but not the only) indicators we need - they are necessary but not sufficient - then I'd rule Roos out now and move on. He is Malcolm Blight. Thanks but no thanks.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
