Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Where did you source it ?

I get slightly different percentages.

You're probably using stats that include finals. This just included regular home and away with finals stripped out.

Have the club signed him up yet???

I don't think we are going to see a new coached announced till August wyl.

I believe the new President and board members will need to be in place first.

The major players are not going anywhere in the next few weeks so no need to rush,

other than us poor members wanting some good news does it matter?

dee-luded, surely you wouldn't be happy with another untried in Scott Burns over Eade?

We have to go with a proven coach thise time and thank god there seem to be a few keen. We can't afford to stuff up for a third time.

Yes, I would, but what I'm saying is after the last 5 Years we've passed the point of employing an Eade... eade is one of the best development coaches imo, but thats it...

I think his main go, is the coaches offsider, with strategies & etc..

If we have to go for a B grader, go for Choco Williams...

... look Eade is Vanilla, & with our culture, he will be quickly absorbed into the old Melbourne/MCC culture, & he won't manage to change a thing. when he finishes we will be back to the same place we were in 2008.... & where the Doggies were last year...

at least with 'Choco', we would get some more creativity, into our players, but maybe not enough discipline.

So, If we miss out on the A Graders,,,, Matthews/Roos,,,,, > then Bomba Thompson,,,,

... then I'd stay with Neil Craig til the end of 2014,,, at which time we could have another crack at Roos,, 'Bomba' Thompson,, & Clarkson.

# I would prefer Gary Ayres head & shoulders over either choco or eade... Imagine a combined Lethal Matthews/Gary Ayres partnership...

Forget the money or the challenge, I bet the biggest factor for Paul Roos is family by a country mile.

If you read what he has said about that over the years its clear its a priority. He took a year off to go to the US as he promised his wife he would do that.

I am not sure but I think his wife is from Texas and her family is very well off so money is not a key factor here.

I think his wife does not like the cold: 'Tami Hardy discovered Australian football. She remembers two things: she had never been so cold. And there was anarchy on the field. "I remember saying: 'This game has no rules,"' she said."

Second his youngest son is about 17 and thus i you would assume doing HSC this year so Roos will not be keen to commit to anything until that is successfully completed (if not and its next year then there is no chance he will move to coach us).

Sometimes its factors other than money that really have an impact.

Though he would be the obvious target for a lot of lobbying , and Im sure the idea does actually pique his interest as even now the media are colouring this job as the challenge of the century, I'm not sure anything will really pry him from his comfy couch and warmer climes.

I am sure his family is a factor but if Roos wants to do it then I am sure his wife would support him. As for his son completing yr12 that will finish at the end of this yr and I am sure he is in Melb a fair bit already so when his son finishes school he and his wife can move down.

There are always hurdles in a lot of things u do but its whether they want to work through them and compromise that will be the key.

Time will tell R57

As much as it grieves me to say Sydney is warmer than Melbourne.

I have been going up there for business for 30 years and it is warmer.

They do not get the lows we get here and the maximums are reached much earlier in the day.

e.g. Melbourne Min 10 Max 18 but the 18 is reached at 2 pm and by 3 pm it starts to fall

Sydney Min 14 Max 20 but the 20 is reached at 11 am and does not start to fall till 3pm.

In the actually way you feel that makes a warmer start to the day and it feels way warmer for most of the day.

Believe me Sydney in way warmer Autumn through Spring.

DL just wants a social club away from the

Northern stand...The football side of the operation is a distant after thought!

No WYL thats your fantasy.

My dream is for the MFClub to Grow & Prosper, & I think the reason it hasn't, is a direct result of us being decision driven from the Northern Stand. people of the Northern Stand, making decisions in favour of, the Northern Stand.

... the Northern Stand, or the culture of it over there, is IMO Very different than what the old MCC was in Smithy's time. However I wonder if it was changing already in Smithy's time, but success kept the hostilities down, and out of harms way???

... you see footage of the attitudes of the crowds from back in the 50's with old fellas smoking & yelling out at the opposition & maybe the umpires to... this ferocity would have helped our boys, from slacking off, & would have aided our players in maintaining their excitement for the 'Kill', as it were.

I suspect that after the Olympics, the Northern Stand had been built,,, & attracted a New Breed, that crept into the place, & into positions of power thru the MCC.

...... Ego driven-status hungry administrators that were politically correct,,, & had influenced the MFC conditions, environment & recruiting,,, & of maintaining our players... & the sacking of Norm Smith... political correctness IMO had become part of the MCC/MFC

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norm_Smith#The_dismissal

from wikipedia > The dismissal

From 1964 tension began to build between Smith and several influential figures at Melbourne. One factor was the decision by Melbourne's star player, Ron Barassi, to move to Carlton in 1965 as captain-coach. Barassi lived with Smith and his wife from the time he was 15 – Barassi became the older man's protege and the two enjoying a unique relationship.

Smith supported Barassi's aspirations, offering to stand aside so Barassi could coach Melbourne. When Barassi rejected this proposal and insisted on a clearance to the Blues, some Melbourne officials unfairly accused Smith of ridding himself of a potential rival.

Another factor was Smith's sometimes acid tongue, which he sometimes turned on committeemen he felt were interfering in his domain.

This facet of the Smith personality put him in a difficult situation when he was sued by an umpire for defamation. In defending the action, Smith found no support from the men running his club.[3][4]

I have had this opinion for some time now, & the more I read, the more it fits.... & I think we are still struggling because of these attitudes getting in the way of our football.

It's said it has caused us to Not move with the times & so, got left behind the raging pack... Richmond,Carlton, North, Essendon, Hawthorn, Collingwood, all left us in their wake, & are light years ahead of us atmo.

# So, I want the club to start building the suburban grassroots again, belatedly via a venture developing a Training HUB, that will start to Re-engage our suburban supporters, & help to grow this fragile area of our support base. IMO we have to invest in this patiently to reestablish this dieing but crucial area of our supporter network. this does Not undermine the MCC, but it does give ordinary supporters a central 'all in One Home' to go to, for training days, interstate games, & after matches... before the train home.

... at the same time we have to continue to build a relationship with Casey, & the Sth East Corridor of Victoria. again to grow our dwindling support base. its not dwindling so much because of a lack of success, but because of a lack of contact & engagement... this is why the MCC hasn't struggled, it gives its supporters plenty of engagement, at the MFC's expence...

so the MCC is actually sucking the life blood away from the MFC. & this is why our supporter base has died. its been neglected.

BOMBER THOMPSON WILL NEVER COACH MELBOURNE, LET ALONE ANYONE AGAIN.

Get that in your head, im not trying to be aggressive, but throwing up coaches names that have no interest is just silly.

The prime candidates that will be interested in the job or targeted by Melbourne will be most likely:

Craig (interested in the job)

Roos (we will target him)

Aryes (might be interested in the job)

Eade (we should target him and he'd be interested )

Mathews (we will target him)

Choco Williams (we might chase him)

Knights (he's go no shot but he'll apply)

Sheedy (could be an outside option, but wont coach)

AGAIN CLARKSON HAS SAID HE IS NOT INTERESTED, SO STOP THROWING HIS NAME UP IN THE AIR.

thank you all

i am sick of reading candidates that have ruled themselves out categorically

WYL, without a booming grassroots supporter base, we will always struggle to maintain a budget that will keep up with the power clubs, now they have grown so far ahead of us in their supporter base.

.... that is what its about, I won't be able to get their to use it... so Its not for me, its for the people, you know the ones... the ones You wished barracked for the Dees... we have to start to claw back some more of the newbies that are entering the inner suburban AFL market...

the ones who make the numbers up for TV game rights, & for prime game fixture slots. the ones who keep the registers ticking over, & the footy dept' well funded... you have to give something, to get something WYL... you have to invest some, to reap the rewards. All that has happened is our demon dominated MCC is no more, they're Black & White, or Red & Black, or Gold & Brown.... & in the south stand, they're Yella & Black.

listen GiG, when we've approached BOMBA, or he's said absolutely No! then I'll believe it...

If you are a MFC director, & know we have sounded out Bomba, or if your a Commissioner & know that Bomba is going to be out of the AFL, then tell us, otherwise bug off.

& you sick of candidacy of Premiership Coaches who publicly allude to not being interested, what do think they'll say.. they don't want to be embarrassed if it doesn't workout. they save face by doing things privately...

& Clarkson has a contract til next year, but has been touted strongly earlier this season of the fallout between him & 'Buddy'. ("Its him or me") was rumoured to have been said. hence the talk of GWS & Buddy,,, but what if Buddy stays??? what happens with Al ?

We have to be at the 'fall of the ball' in all of these... starting with Roos & Matthews.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
