Neeld is not the problem

"COACHES SHOULDN'T HAVE TO COACH EFFORT AT AFL LEVEL" - Chris Dawes 19/05/2013

Despite all that has been said about Neeld, I refuse to crucify him based on what has been produced by this playing group.

Unless we see week in, week out effort from this lazy as sin playing group, I don't think we can see what Neeld has to deliver.

IT'S THE PLAYERS, STUPID!

Of course he is. The players do not respect anything he says or instructs. They are treating him like dog poo, he has no option but to get on with life elsewhere.

And how is this Neeld's fault?

Once again, you've identified that it is the fault of the PLAYERS.

They've already buried one coach. They should not be allowed to do it to another.

But Neeld says effort is not the issue.

You really think he hasn't been pulled into line after blasting them after the Brisbane game after round one last year, when he laid into the playing group for lack of effort?

Dr. Mubutu:

Is Neeld part of the solution then? Because if not, then he's part of the problem.

IMO, yes.

We've all heard scuttlebutt of how lazy this playing group was circa 2009-11.

The issue is that he has had to enforce standards that should be assumed for professional footballers.

He is responsible for the playing group. If he can't get them up for the game?? Well, he has to go !!

End of story !!

The players obviously have no respect for him

We know that the players are so down in confidence and Mark Neeld cannot do anything to change that.

We really do need an experienced coach , because this basket case requires elite know how !

We got rid of 14 players last year - we can't get rid of the whole list.

If we have any chance of a furure it is by giving the players and supporters a clean slate (hope) and that starts with the coach leaving - then players/coaches rs with bad attituteds etc.

OMG was the coach not involved in 14 changes from last years players list?

Let clear out the decision makers and recruits that gave the MFC the current players list. Because there no point changing the players list if the same type or worse players take their place.

I agree the players need to bear a large part of the responsibility but while Neeld may not be THE problem as Striker said he is not part of the solution either. So Neeld is a hard arse who needs to beat the unprofessional players into line? A coach needs to be more than that and you can't even say he has done that particularly well.

The club can't survive with this constant rubbish served up every week. I've been going week in week out for 25 years since I was 6 and I don't even want to go anymore not because its depressing but because its boring. It's just so bloody predictable what's the point?

Oh Please Dr Mubutu! Don't quote players as a sign of support for any coach. Players never criticise their coach because he has the power to ruin their careers. [Macca posted great explanations for this 6 weeks ago]

Neelds appalling people skills has contributed greatly to the lack of spirit/effort, and his poor game plan nous kills us too. These are the 2 main things a coach needs!

Plenty else is wrong, but he's a useless coach who should be gone now whether we have a permanent replacement or not.

Agree, it's not Neeld's fault. Who shot the Kennedy's? After all, it was you and me, or words to that effect. The club's file? Well, it was stamped by City Hall a few years back when AD put the question what does Melbourne stand for? Post-TV rights deals he may well have regretted that solo instrumental but it is clear that the administration do not regard the minnow victorian clubs, they are a hindrance to the new global game. Is it the players fault? of course it is, but they are just playing for wages after all, and they know they get the same wages as the premiership aspirants regardless of their level of input. they also know they can 'trade' themselves to another club if they get jack of season-on-season losses. is it neeld's fault? of course it is. he came to the club full of elite mindset spin and spun us a new one. he got onto the payroll saying what we needed to hear. sheedy attempted the same heist but got picked up by the scanners. is it the players fault? no, it's not the players' fault etc etc

Having dumped on the Dees, the AFL now has to decide whether they are going to save us. and then footscray, and then stkilda. of course they won't. but they will say they will. by that stage there will be a manageable 14 or so teams in the competition. will the supporters care? no they won't.

'Doc', i think the problem is not necessarily the effort but how that effort is applied and that is Neeld's fault. There is no logical sense in the way they are playing at the moment where they leave the middle of the ground open for the opposition to do as they please. We seem to have the bulk of our players in either of the 50 mtr arcs with no one pushing up from either side, we can blame a poor midfield but it is team pressure we lack.

He can't have it both ways either about being in a rebuild and developing players then throwing all structure out the window and pushing everyone back into defence to save the scoreline. Having Howe sit as a loose man on the FB line when all their attack is coming from HB where we have now given them a loose man also makes no sense.

We were lucky today, Freo are not a heavy scoring team. I really fear for next week against the Hawks.

It's VERY easy for the playing group to come out and take the blame, because ALL players are on the SAME LEVEL.

If Garland, or Dawes, or whoever comes out and says, "It's us, not the coach", then they can shoulder the blame collectively, rather than hold a coach accountable for his team playing arguably the worst brand of football the league has ever seen.

We are that bad we should doing two things, play man on man, and tackle .

Freo had that many loose players in the first half it wasnt funny, at least it gives our players a chance to compete.

And who agreed to 3 yr contracts for Jamar, Pederson and McKenzie.

Who recruited Gillies, Rodan, Byrnes and Pederson and failed to leave a spot on the list for Jack Hannath.

The Coach.

I think it would be more accurate to say that 'It's not just Neeld's fault'. Recruiting, list managment and senior management all have to share the blame. How the club let it become to this is staggering, we are not an AFL level team and it will probably get worse before it gets better.

Leigh Matthews once said that to win a premiership, everything must align....from the president, to the volunteer who turns the sausages.

Players must take some responsibility.

Surely Harrington has to take some of the blame here as well. His role is List Manager and under him the management of the list has been deplorable.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action.
