6. Byrnes - stood up at crucial moments in this match. 23 possies, 12 of them contested with 3 goals. A surprisingly rounded performance. Well done.

5. Trengove - 10 tackles, come to expect that, but worked hard going both ways. Massive role in this win.

4. Grimes - demanded the ball all day and generally used it well. Both captains clearly amongst the best.

3. Evans - boy oh boy wowee, we have a potential new regular starter. Works his arse off and has the skills to back that up.

2. N Jones - it's all been said. The man is great.

1. Gawn - never leave again, Maxy.

1. Sylvia

Honorable mentions to Gawn given his first game back, Terlich (love his attack, run & hardness at the contest), Garland's refusal to accept mediocrity and fight his way through traffic to turn defense into attack, Chip for his close checking and ability to read the ball in flight and body/pressure his opponent out of the play over 4 quarters and Grimes for his creative play and will to get to another contest.

N Jones - competitive throughout, kept us in it

S Byrnes - showed the experience and poise needed when we were crumbling

M Gawn - Provided an option around the ground and up front

M Evans - Bit of speed, skill and more importantly seems to possess a footy brain

M Jones - a lot of hardwork (possesions, pressure) before it got easy

C Garland - attacked from defence

Of course not being at the game, this doesn't take into account what defensive pressure/running they did. For 3 quarters we were exposed again.

6 - Nathan Jones: Heart and soul of this footy club. Will go down as an MFC great by the time he's done.

5 - Michael Evans

4 - Shannon Byrnes

3 - Jack Grimes

2 - Max Gawn

1 - Jack Trengove

Howe, Sylvia, M. Jones, Terlich good too. You can see why Matt Jones won Box Hill's most consistent player award last year.

Watts still plays like a lazy teenage girl.

6. Jones - did what he does, and was essential

5. Grimes - all day all day

4. Howe - most impressed by one of his less spectacular goals, in the last corner, create by sheer workrate to lead back toward goal again

3. Byrnes - Kept bobbing up and being effective

2. Evans - what a special last quarter

1. Gawn - did well in each role he was asked to do, and it mattered

Most impressive team behaviour for me was that our defenders were looking to take marks. a really visible change of behaviour and confidence compared to just a couple of weeks ago where they were spoiling things which clearly should have been defensive marks. Really important change and CREDIT TO NEELD for turning around that loss of confidence.

5. Jones - consistant but miss a couple he could have kicked.

4 - Evans - 3 goals from a midfielder, ran all day - very good.

3. Gawn - contested marks held how refreshing...

2. Sylvia - Finally showed something last qtr

1. Davey - I thought his impact for playing just over a qtr was profound. He created options, space and pressure in defence. 2 Goals we good reward.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
