What Clubs Do You Love To Hate?

Apologies if this was done before but i would love to hear stories from other Melbourne supporters about how they took a disliking to some of the other clubs!Essendon Hawthorn and Carlton would be my obvious choices.Hawthorn are Hawthorn and Essendon are Essendon enough said!Carlton seem to be a very corrupt organisation.Within the last decade we had the salary cap issue and they tanked to load up on priority draft picks for pretty much all of the Pagan years and nothing was ever done about it!They poached Barassi from us in 64,they tried to poach Footscrays best players when they were in financial trouble in 1989 and they are trying to kick us out of our home ground.Carlton seem to have a history of throwing their weight around and bullying clubs that they see as inferior to them.I wouldn't hate Collingwood to the same extent that i would hate the first three clubs i mentioned.I still dislike them but i would have a respect for the Magpies because they are our traditional rivals going back to the 50's.I would be pretty indifferent towards Geelong St Kilda and Richmond while i would have a soft spot for the Western Bulldogs in particular and North Melbourne because i just like the way both clubs continue to battle against the odds.Apart from the Meth Coast Eagles the insterstate clubs don't really bother me apart from the new darlings of the AFL GWS and the new Sydney franchise.I just see the Eagles as a very plastic and artificial club if that makes sense and that theme song they have is awful!

The Pies for obvious reasons and the Saints (only because my wife is a Saints fan and gives it to me every time they beat us)

I wouldn't worry you have plenty of ammunition on your side at least we have achieved some substantial success even if it was a long time ago and haven't the Saints recorded more last placed finishes than any other club!

Hawthorn (dirty football team in the 70's/80's: Matthews on Giles, Smith. Dippa on Flower.

Essendon (Sheedy hubris/ Wallis Long incidents in 2000 grand final)

West Coast (a corporate franchise not a football team)(

don't mind

Swans (esp since Healey got stitched up in '87 finals series

Geelong (play an attractive brand of football and represent a local area)

don't care

Greater Western Sydney

Greater Western Suns

Collingwood - I am married to a one-eyed Collingwood supporter so we love the footy season. Closely followed by Hawthorn, Essendon then Carlton. I do not have any love for Richmond but don't mind North Melbourne.

I like the way you described the Eagles. You summed up perfectly what i was trying to say about them.Dermet Brereton and Jason Dunstall would be two more reasons why i hate Hawthorn!

When I was a kid in the early 60's, my younger brother, sister and myself used to sit around playing with the old Ouija Board (the 60's version of a video game?) when for some reason we mentioned the Richmond Tigers. The board went crazy and from that moment on, the Tigers were on the most hated list.

These days though, apart from a couple of clubs (still Richmond, and Carlton) my hatred is generally reserved for the supporters and the AFL. Adelaide supporters remind me of the inbred, banjo toting, wooden teeth wearing hillbillies from Deliverance. Essendon supporters are just plain feral and Collingwood supporters are just plain scary. I used to dislike Swans supporters here in Sydney because of their blind support with little knowledge of the game, but now I think they are among the most reasonable supporters in the game and I find it impossible to dislike the Swans as a club - in fact, I have nothing but admiration for their achievements.

Wow. A ouija board decided who topped your footy hate list? That's almost as bad a use of that game as they had for the first Paranormal Activity movie.

I don't hate other teams......They are just trying to win games as we are trying to do.......Most of the players are just young men playing for their club.

But ever since I was in third grade.(A very long time ago)...The class bully supported Essendon

I always hope they lose and rejoice when they do.....But I don't hold grudges....Much....

Hawthorn - arrogance, dirty. Hate the 'unsociable football' tag, it's still thuggery. Carlton - brown paper bags/tanking, I associate cheating with them. Essendon - just kept beating us. Richmond - ferals, nothing more to say. only so many times you can be threatened by the Grog Squad before hating. St Kilda - some of the racism I heard as a kid from fat drunk st kilda supporters turned me off them for life. Can't hate Collingwood any more. Quarter of a century of lost grand finals is punishment in itself. Just kidding, still hate them, the 'wobbles' is just icing :)

Essendon since Long attacked Troy Simmons in the GF. But I reckon these things are almost fluid. I have to admit, I found myself wanting them to beat Adelaide on Friday night. I either really hate Adelaide or, more likely, everyone responds to a 'backs against the wall' story. I admire what those players did on Friday, irrespective of the guernsey worn. Hate the Hawks though!

Essendon. They have to be the most aggressive, one eyed lot ever!

Collingwood, because they were our arch enemies during our golden era. They 'stole' the '58 flag from us, thus interrupting a run of premierships that would have culminated in a 'never to be beaten' sequence of six on the trot. I loathe them and despise them, and my feelings have rubbed off on my eldest son. He has a Magpies sticker firmly glued on the inside bottom of his toilet bowl. Visiting the bathroom is extremely satisfying at his house!

Edit: spelling.

Hate the bombers with a passion I was hoping for Adelaide to embarrass them on Friday night. Richmond have found themselves to be hated by me this year. It's all thanks to their idiot supporters who bang on and on about their midfield as if they are the gods of the AFL. Fair dinkum play a bloody finals game tigers before you crow about how good you are. Cotchin, delledio,Martin and foley= 0 FINALS ya knobs.

1.Collingwood despise the Club and its supporters. I grew up with cousins barracking for the Woods and had to go to the football with them. Sheer agony. The day Ronnie Wearmouth (I think) king hit Flower before the game and nearly being beaten over head by a feral Collingwood supporter with her umbrella. Funny now but not at the time.

2.Essendon- witnessing supporters spit at their team as they went down the race and the disgraceful 2000 incident with Dean Wallis who knew prior to the game he was retiring.

3. Carlton - the most despicable, arrogant and unreasonable supporters and now even more given what they have got away with.

4. Hawthorn - pompous supporters and hate that they have come so far from the time of merger (and we haven't)

Quite like going to the football with Swans and Bulldog supporters - usually reasonable

I admire Geelong for what they have achieved and also love the chant Geeeeeelong - always makes me laugh

Richmond - what can you say. I just feel sorry for them - bunch of no hoper supporters - nearly as bad as Collingwood

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
