Massive man crush on this bloke.

I met him a few times and he is more than happy to talk, sign autographs and have photos taken.

Would love to have someone of his ilk playing for us now.

Absolute star.

Good Stuff Ox. Hopefully he sticks close to the club from now on.

Yes he f...up but that can be repaired.

The MFC is important to Schwarta and vice versa.

Harbours a desire to coach the Dees.......one day.

He may want to coach us, but being a great player does not always mean you will be a good coach.

I dont know Schwarta intimately and have heard portions of his story throughout his career but I do know that he is highly regarded for his honesty in acknowledging his problems and the resilience in confronting them.

Hope his messages got through to the next generation.

The need to make the most of the opportunity,

The privilege they have

the friendships they can make and retain

The reputation they can forge.

Agree. He was my favourite player during his career and as others have said was always very approachable. Glad he has turned his life around and I hope he has more involvement with the Dees from now on. He is a favourite son.

The young players would have been privileged to hear him speak and I am sure his message would ring loudly in their ears.

Yes, great to hear the ice has been broken at last, and he's made a return of sorts. His experience would be an invaluable plus around the Club. Sure hope he spends more time there from now on, helping mentor some of the new crop.

Young Jimmy Toumpas has big shoes to fill, running around in the #5.

Welcome back ox.

I can never forget those two finals games in 1994 - we could all see that we had, at last, uncovered a superstar......then all went down with a great big thud.

Has he been offered any specialist coaching position, or as a mentor to maybe Jesse Hogan or JW?

I am sure especially now that he has shown such insight and is 'clean' his life experiences could contribute a lot.

As has been pointed out by Redleg, being a star player doesn't mean that you will necessarily be a star senior coach - hello Buckley and Hird - but some rôle could surely be found, should he want it.

He was doing some coaching work at the Doggies a few years ago I think! Goal kicking maybe?

It would be good to see him involved around the club again.

Good on Schwarz, sounds like he was a real dirtbag in his time, that is what the punt can do, it can completely change a man.

I am sure he's a top bloke, he gets my vote for facing his demons head on...

I remember just after Neita got captain and the Ox vice, telling him at the family day he should have been given the captaincy Mind you I had no idea about his addiciton.

But it would be good to see him help out Hogan or even Dawes.

I love David. I love that he has dealt with his addiction and shares his story with so many. It is a credit to his strength of character that he has hit rock bottom and come out the other end. sometimes it is the challenges of life and our frailties that truely become the message to be shared for others to learn. My hat dips to the big man and think there but for the grace of god go I. Hope Melbourne offer him a mentoring role to one of young fellas.

My entire family are bombers supporters. I watched the ox play when I was a kid and from that day Ive been a demon. Im 28 and he is still an icon to me.

Like others in this thread, I still wear my signed #5 guernsey to the footy.

The three next-to-last games he played before knee injury number 1 - kicking 9.0 at the SCG, and then the two swashbuckling finals - are three of my all-time favourite MFC memories, and I still regularly watch the Nureyev passage of play. I love it how you can hear the crowd gasp at the pirouette, and then the sound comes to a crescendo as the pin-point pass makes it's way towards Garry's chest.

How I long to experience that kind of joy at the footy again.. to see some real magic in September!

I was at the G for the 1994 qualifying final against carlton. The ox made peter dean look like a hack. And what made the day complete was sitting with 6 carlton fans,

two of which were my old man and my brother. Its still my favourite melbourne game to date.

I believe David Copperfield is coming out this September. You should book a ticket.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
