has died this Morning.

A voice that i and many others grew up with..

"I am Mebourne Tony...I am Melbourne...

Rest in Peace Mr Charlton.

Sad news. in his prime he was the best commentors in this country,if not worldwide.

We will never forget his interview with the great Norm Smith.

But even before that and long after, he was well respected and much liked in his field.

Condolences to his family and close friends.

May he rest in peace.

Fond childhood memories of Tony Charlton as host of the then Channel 9 Sunday Sports show. Like Mum's Sunday roast, it was not to be missed.

Rest in Peace Tony. A true gentleman and remarkable commentator, in the days when unscripted and impromptu delivery was a necessity.

Very sad news! I, too, fondly remember (and miss!) the dulcit tones of Tony. A true professional, and one of the all-time great commentators of our great game.

Condolences to his family.

What younger members may not realize is that Tony started TV commentary the way it is now.

He set the original standard. Put excitement into the call, not just who had the ball who passes to next player.

He taught himself.

Every commentator today would know of Charlton's work..

There are not too many of those around any more!

I will always remember Tony Charlton for his memorable commentary in the 1964 Grand Final - with Crompton running triumphantly back to his position - that he would be 'the hero of all Melbourne tonight" if Melbourne win.

Does anyone know where the famous Charlton interview of Norm Smith can be found? I've been trying to track it down after reading The Red Fox. I can only find snippets on Youtube but I would love to see an extended version.

How many of you remember Tony Charlton and Channel nine broadcasting test cricket in (I think) 1963 when the South Africans toured? It was Greame Pollock's first series and Trevor Goddard was their captain. It was Richie Benaud's last series. Great cricket - great commentary.

A very cultured and dedicated broadcaster. Spoke so clearly and with so much depth of knowledge. Vale Tony Charlton.

Watched the open mile with Tony last night.

They covered quite a few topics. His love for John Coleman as a player even had mike sheahan questioning if he was exaggerating.

Tony spoke of the norm smith interview. Said it was tense but also like the footy show now, we're well aware of the ratings. Norm ignored large sums of money from rival tv and radio stations to do that interview as he was employed by that network . A man of principal.

Tony didn't subscribe to the norm smith curse but was a big fees fan.

Really insightful guy who commented on today's broadcast, how wonderful the tv footage is now, rated Tim lane, mcavaney and commeti as best commentators today.

Given the broadcasts infinite supply of camera shots, angles and the huge coverage now he then suggested there may be one negative.

He then quoted John Kennedy and said we have lost our sense of wonderment.

Could have listened to him for hours. A sad loss.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
