I no longer hate GWS

GWS were completely fraudulent to us in relation to their dealings with Tom Scully. For a long time, I loathed them for that.

But, to be honest, they've actually been very reasonable to us in 2012:

- Even though they stole Tom Scully from us, they did us a massive favour. I'm glad he's not on our list. Don't like him and don't particularly rate him as a top tier player.

- In return for Scully, we effectively received Mitch Clark (b/c of the cash we'd kept aside for Scully), Toumpas (pick 4) and Dawes (pick 13 then moved to pick 20). On any construction, that's 'overs'.

- They allowed us to recruit Jesse Hogan with pick 3 which also enabled us to recruit Jack Viney (father/son) with pick 26. Total bargain.

- They picked O'Rourke and Plowman ahead of Toumpas. Toumpas will be a MFC club legend. There's no way he should've got to us at pick 4.

What's there to hate? I now kind of like GWS.

can't question a single point

also, in a season bereft of celebration, we got to enjoy smacking them by 78 points at the G

Yeah this year they have been better. Seriously Tom Scully leaving seems like a long time ago. You know what I hated GWS and him this season but im over it because our midfield looks so much better now and we have got tougher bodies in there now. I know he lied about going but does anyone really miss him.

I know people wills still boo Tom next year but if most of us didnt then we can insult him by showing him we dont care he has gone. Not that he would care if we did or not.

I actually so agree.

There is no way in hell that Scully is worth what we got for him.

Than the fact they backed it up and didnt take Toumpas is a joke, he's a freak! from what i've seen.

We are so going to make them eat their words.

Although Scully is a gun and will progress probably into something really good. What we got is better

I am now starting to think he is no certainty for their best side. They have a few new boys to come in plus several back from injury. He seriously may not fit in to their best tea, . I would laugh my head off.

They were reasonable with us this year because it was in their interests to do so

Absolutely and this goes to show how silly the view some put forward on DL that GWS (or for that matter GC) would deliberately set out to screw us over in regard to Viney (some even suggested they would do as part of some Sheedy vendetta against the club) rather than try to find a way that they benefited out of the situation (picks 1, 2, 3 for example).

I'm the same as the OP. Hated him when it all happened, but loving him now :)

Scully = Toumpas (compensation pick, who comes with a whole backpack full of tricks and is AFL ready)

Clark (salary room bought a player who wins almost every 1on1 contest and bagged 29 goals in 11 games)

Jones (who has mostly improved since Scully left. It was like a huge mental step up)

Let's not get too chummy with GWS. They will have a pretty lethal side in three years or so and if we are to win our 13th cup, that mob will likely be a powerhouse doing everything in their power to stop us.

And they have Grubby Allen for chrissakes. To paraphrase Rowan Atkinson ... "the sort of bloke you'd emigrate to avoid".

exactly. They have done us no favours & i don't expect the MFC to roll out any red carpet for them.

They are an enemy that civil but careful conversations can be traded.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
