  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not having a go here 'picket' but interested to know how you would classify Judd. Is he inside grunt or run and carry? What about Ablett?

This view is so simplistic it beggars belief. It's as though you think Toumpas is never going to lay a tackle his whole career and just wait on the fringes of the pack for someone to hand it to him on a plate like some frightened little wide receiver!

Read Quigley's mock draft write of him. Toumpas ....

"Has added a few more strings to his bow this year and should end up being a good all-round midfielder capable of winning his own ball on the inside and then spreading very well to receive on the outside.

"He passes off the ball and then works his butt off for 15-20 metres to see if he is needed to get the ball back or to tackle or corral the opposition. This bit of extra work on plays paid off time after time and saw him continually positively impacting plays."

"His tackling is also very strong and his strength in the contest is also good for a guy who is not terribly big."

And last but not least ...

"Toumpas has leadership skills. He was the SA captain this year and it was evident that he was the leader out there. I could definitely see him captaining an AFL team one day."

Take your blinkers of Picket-F ... this kid is TOP SHELF talent in every respect.

The whole 'Wines vrs O'Rouke' was inside vrs out, or mature body vrs lighter build.

Toumpas is pretty much a complete package, the best of both worlds..... not too skinny to play against men, quick enough to play outside, kicks goals, great leadership qualities, the list goes on.

That's why I think GWS is spinning a bit of crap here and will take him at pick #3....

Does it? Which Hawthorn inside mid was it that chased Lewis Jetta down the wing on GF day? That's right, none of them.

It takes all types. We have inside mids, and we have the best one from this draft.

We don't have speed and skill that can run all day. So when the chance to rectify that is handed to you on a platter, you graciously accept it, or you are a fool.

Thompson was a decade a ago.

Scully's was a unique situation owing to the introduction of a ridiculously cashed up franchise playing by a different set of rules to everyone else. What's more, we actually capitalized on that situation by cleverly snaring top-tier compensation for him.

No club worth it's salt restricts it's recruiting to state allegiances. It's preposterous.

It's fair enough you'd prefer Wines but stick to the hip surgery angle on Toumpas. It's your best bet.

i think Atletico Bilbao still do something like this, only signing players of Basque origin in spain

The club is known for its cantera policy of bringing young Basque players through the ranks, as well as recruiting top Basque players from other clubs (like Joseba Etxeberria or Javi Martínez). Athletic official policy is signing professional players native to or footballistically trained in the greater Basque Country, including Biscay, Guipúzcoa, Álava, Navarre and La Rioja (in Spain); andLabourd, Soule and Lower Navarre (in France). Still, in recent times, this policy has been somewhat relaxed and players with direct Basque ancestry have played for the team. This has gained Athletic both admirers and critics. The club has been praised for promoting home grown players and club loyalty. Athletic is one of only four professional clubs in Spain in Primera División (the others being Real Madrid, Barcelona and Osasuna) that is not a sports corporation; the club is owned and operated by its associates (socios).

just a fun fact.....

But i agree with your thought

Look at the swans Hawks grand final.

The contested ball stats won it.

Hawks foot skills meant nothing because Swans had more of it.

Actually foot skills on goal let them down, not the first team that's happened to.

Yes but largely due to Swannies pressure.

The rumours were why take Toumpas? When he has a go home factor.

Well we have an instant swap in store if he gets home sick.

A direct swap Tompy for Winesy.

Not a bad deal win / win.

If Tompy likes us and plays well then all's well that ends well.

Looked devastated when Dixon interviewed him.

The exact opposite of Toumpas, really.

Good luck to him.

Did he? That's no good to hear - I wish the kid all the best.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
