But why should we have to compare Toumpas & Wines?? I am so sick of this statement.

Toumpas shouldn't even be on the list.....He is.

We should have picked up 2 Hard Nosed inside mids who knew each other as mates...

There is no comparison anyway...One is leading the other is still in the play pen learning to walk.

Exactly, then when Wines was not as effective in a much worse side we could have rattled on about how we should have taken Toumpas because we already had to many inside mids.

Hmm this fine Tuesday morning I ventured on here to see why a player that players for another club in his second year has achieved 30 pages.

Now here is a surprise a large part of it is members calling each other names.

The surprising thing is I am surprised!

No surprises there...and no surprises people here relentlessly bagging individual players, when had they played in a strong team, may have turned out altogether differently

Forget about wines , he is a port adelaide player who has just signed for another two years.

We have no other option than to support jimmy, ive seen some good glimpses, he has had a good pre season, it will come.

This thread just equates to crying over spilt milk.

Exactly

So glad you have seen some good glimpses. How nice for you.

We passed up a player who is regularly in their best players.

Not the first time it has happened either.

When you spot another glimpse let me know, i may miss it in the act of blinking.

So what is the point of this thread and these posts.....is any of it going to change anything?

Its all academic anyway.....Wines is a port Adelaide player....move on.

I still believe Jimmy can be a great player, we will see but give it time.

The difference is also that Wines was in a very good team last year, and did his bit.

Toumpas has been in a terrible team, that is scarred and has no confidence.

So many seem to like to forget these two facts.

Read my post I would have picked WINES but that is me not everything is black and white and don't think for 1 minute throwing a ridiculous statement in about a potential Norm Smith medallist has any bearing on you being right. It is to early for you to claim being right.

Rhys Palmer, Jared Rivers and Daniel Rich are points to consider.

I will say again as it is very difficult for you to understand, it is far to early to make a call as to whether we were right or wrong. We have two future mids in Viney and Toumpas who the clubs thinks will provide greater balance across the midfield.

For you to not give consideration to Wines having the likes of Boak, Ebert, Grey, Cassisi and Cornes in helping him out shows more about your lack of footy knowledge than anything else.

Look mate if you want to wait 2-3 years to get an answer fair enough.

But i was told to wait 8 years ago for answers by people on here when i knew deep down Tanking was going to do us in.

Put it this way Wines is a natural at AFL Level Toumpas is not

Can it be taught, to be fearless and fully trust yourself? Very rarely.

Wines will win a Norm Smith barring serious injury. I will stand by that call now.

It is why i am so angry about the call Neeld made.

He usurped a decision that will cost us dearly

Good for you old dee. I too cannot understand why we are discussing in huge proportions a player that is not one of ours. We didn't get him so let's leave it at that and concentrate on our OWN boys.

what ppl are discussing is effectively the reverse side of the same coin. Its the coin in reality under discussion....i.e how we got tails instead of heads or vice versa

To discuss Wines is to discuss Toumpas

Who cares?

We got Jim. He plays for us. He's a young player just strarting out his career. Its ridiculous to compare him to someone else based on 12 months.

Let's try somethimng new fo D Land - support him

IIRC Toupas was trumpeted as ( being a very high pick ) and a seasoned SANFL player as being an all but ready to go draft selection...

He simply hasnt been quite what the packet described. Many are unimpressed by this.

The reality is he'll be compared ( always ) to Wines, whether it be 12 months, 2 seasons, 5 ...eoc etc

Not long after Viney was drafted by us, I met one of the coaches from Echuca ( where both Wines and Viney played),on an AFL coaching course.

His comment: we would have been silly to draft both of them, as you don't need 2 of those players in the side at the same time.( He would know as he did!)

FMD WYL he wants to be a 1 club player and GF are very hard to get to, which is a pre-requisite for winning the Norm

http://site4.demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/32273-the-4-pillars-of-talent-identification/

If anyone is unclear on the Pillars, read this. This is an indication as to the talent identification that all Clubs go through. Toump would have been picked by GWS on talent alone, but instead, they went for 3 Victorian lads that knew each other to try to stem the "Go Home" factor. Toumpas was CLEARLY the second best player in that draft. If some of you peanuts sitting at your keyboards would take your hand off it, you would see what EVERYONE else saw. A Classy, Elite, Hardworking young man that will become a Champion of our Club. He is chocfull of Character as well. Look at the Videos on our website re his new roll as an AFL MULTICULTURAL AMBASSADOR. He is mixing with the likes of Jobe Watson, Nic Nat etc. He is also doing some work with Australia Post helping our young Indigenous get the same opportunities he got. All this while having to put up with the weight of expectation of losers spitting on our OWN players last year after some disastrous results. SPITTING!!! WTF.

Grow up all you people (for want of a better word) decrying the fact we got Jimmy. Ollie will be elite as well, but in his own way. Our Jack, and Jimmy will help to lead thismClub from the abyss we are currently in. I trust, with the appropriate amount of developement, that we have 2 future leaders to guide us to greatness.

Wouldnt you rather have a ready made player now more than a cultural ambasador. Ohh of couse he will be great when he has a full pre-season

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
