6 - Rivers: career best game and I'm calling it, one of the best individual efforts I've ever seen down back at this club. Crameri goalless.

5 - Garland: X-factor. Match winner.

4 - Jones: Our best player this season, borderline star at present (keep it up JOnesy!)

3 - Watts: Hack my arse!

2 - Grimes: MASSIVE second half.

1 - Nicholson: Disposal not great but everything else very good.

Just like after massive smashings, I need to let the adrenaline die off before I post, otherwise I don't know how I'm going to see past Col Garland's efforts in the last quarter. That and watching completely, utterly exhausted players throw themselves on the ball and man to stop Essendon getting back in it in the last.

Not one player was carried last night. Just a team effort. Can you give votes to every single player.

Maybe on Brownlow night. And the three votes go to, The enire Melbourne football team.

6- Gotta be Riv. What a game from him, has been great all year.

5- Grimes. Won the ball while playing on Watson for most of the game.

4- Nicholson. Courage to run, and beat, opponents set the tone.

3- Jones. What a fighter.

2- Garland. Finally gets played forward!

1- Watts. Great, creative disposal.

Welcome back Moloney, Sylvia, Morton to the team ( at least it appeared as though you wanted to be part of the team). Couple of others still to also return but all positives tonight so I am not naming them.

6. Nicholson- He was awesome with his contested ball and run, and his disposal was not terrible.

5. Rivers- As has been said, dominant game.

4. Watts- Great playmaking and contested work was much much better, especially at the end vs Watson.

3. Grimes- Leading from the front.

2. Garland- Provided a real option up forward. Would have been higher if he kicked straight.

1. Jones- As always, worked hard all night. Nice goal too.

Everybody deserves a vote tonight for actually turning up and going hard.

But when I think of a Grimesy's efforts in the second half I want to cry again. For everything he has been through with injuries and a very difficult start to his captaincy, he was simply inspiring. Absolutely the right man for the job.

Jones as always was magnificent as well.

The first 22 man four quarter effort this year.

6 Garland - cant look passed his 4th quarter effort

5 Jack Watts - sit down hater - youre making idiots of yourselves

4 Rivers - No words for that effort

3 Grimes - havnt seen us captained like that since Neitz

2 Nicholson - amazing what run and carry can add to a team

1 Jones - deserved it all year

6. Watts- sublime skill, and those gutsy spoils.

5. Rivers- Best game I've ever seen him play. Masterful.

4.Grimes- Terrier like. Disposal also good.

3. Jones- Guts, guts and more guts. What a team lifting goal!

2. Garland- Unlikely hero in forward line. Great marks in defence too.

1. Mark Neeld and the rest of the Demon team. Fabulous courage and dedication.

Also thought Sylvia was good tonight. Put himself into the contest.

6- Watts: The backline is the place for him. What a great game!

5- Rivers: Unlucky not to get the 6. He was fantastic.

4- Jones: As usual, played with his heart on his sleeve; just this time, he had 21 support acts.

3- Grimes: We've got ourselves a captain!

2- Garland: Our match winning forward

1- Tapscott: I thought he was excellent tonight: he went in hard, took some courageous marks, made some smart plays. Glad to have him in the team.

Honourable mentions: Nicholson, Moloney, McDonald, Green

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
