Might be time to blood a Fitzy or a Couch.

By all reports Bennell will come in as he's had a couple of good weeks

OUTS: Sellar, Sylvia, Moloney.

Sellar cannot take a mark, is extraordinarily slow and is a poor ruckman; Sylvia is just never going to what we wish he could do; and Moloney has no comprehension of the team nature of footy. He is a terribly selfish footballer and a woeful rolemodel.

INS: Martin, Watts/Petterd, Bennell.

Martin is an infinitely better player around the ground than Sellar, is a fine ruckman and can take a grab from time to time; Watts kicked four and is essential to our future, but if he hasn't shown what the coach wants, then Petterd deserves a call up; Bennell provides the speed we need and appears to have a better understanding of how to win the ball than he used to. I think he deserves another chance.

Time to reward some form in the reserves. Fitzpatrick will offer more than Sellar in the ruck and as Sellar is offering nothing up forward there isn't much to lose. Bennell deserves a go at half back compared to Tappy, Petterd represents more value than Bail and Couch is very over due for a run. Bate really can't do much in the middle at this level and he's the same old forward as he used to be.

I'm not 100% sure bringing Watts and Blease in against Hawthorne. Maybe another game in the 2's and then bring them back. Although I would like to see them both in.

For my mind

Team balance dictated here, Bail and Bate had fairly ordinary games, but both have been alright in the past two weeks.

It's hard to see Sellar holding his place, despite the fact that we don't have an obvious big bodied replacement. Sylvia should have returned through the VFL to gain form and fitness. I'd give Couch the opportunity he's earned.

If you are going to drop Trengove is it not unreasonable to state why?

He's having a go and does all the little things right unlike half our players. Even if you are to drop him isn't it reasonable to trial him as a forward or a half back flanker and drop someone who is offering nothing.

Have a little think here people.

Sellar has performed quite well when required to ruck. Its the marks inside 50 that we need. His ability to contest and bring the ball to the ground has been good until today.

Just about.

Out: Sellar, Bail

In: Fitzpatrick, Couch

I'd be looking at Bennell as well.

Out: Sellar, Bate, Bail...Tapscott maybe.

In: Martin/Petterd/Fitz..would love to see Ricky Bobby back, Watts, Bennell, Couch (please Neeldy..put us out of our misery and give the kid a run)

Would not be overly upset to see Moloney at Casey next week.

He is simply not putting in, is very slow and often well off the play... he needs to be sent to Casey to find form, just like anyone else in his position.

There is a bit of dislike on this forum for bail, in my opinion is a player that tries his hardest every minute of the match and has skills that could develop him into a very good player. Or am i missing something?

Out Sellar (useless today), Bate (Always useless) but won't happen

IN Bennell, Couch

OUT: Sellar (of course), Sylvia (too rusty at everything except complaining), Magner (love him, but he's getting worn out, needs a rest)

IN: Watts (play him in this role Sellar has had), Petterd (seriously Neeld, play this guy), Couch (more than deserves a chance)

Hard to disagree with those but maybe sub Martin (if fit) or Fitz for Sellar instead of Watts. I really don't think one week out after 42 weeks in is enough for Jack fully comtemplate where he is at.

I'm pretty angry about Sylvia. I was against his coming straight back without some evidence of form at Casey.

Firstly, I am really surprised that nobody has mentioned dropping Aaron Davey. I know we lack leg speed and kicking skills, however, I am sick of his insipid efforts.

Out Davey & Bail

In Blease Bennell

Yeah I keep wondering if I'm alone in thinking that Davey's efforts are largely insipid.

He ball watches more than anyone, and never fully commits to a contest. I don't expect him to be Grimes, Bartram or McKenzie, but he can't be thinking about protecting his body all the time when the ball is in the balance.

People are happy to get stuck into Morton and Watts, but they are babies compared to Davey, who is an experienced senior player with a fully mature body.

Posted

OUT: Sellar (C grade Ruckmen, F grade Forward), Bail (simply not enough presence)

In: Pettard (combine this man and Howe at half forward and leave him in for more than 3 games and our forward line will be infinitely less one dimensional) , Watts (I'd take Martin if fit but he's not. Hawthorn don't exactly have a stellar ruck line up and even on a bad day can't be 1/2 as bad as Sellar as a forward)

People who are suggesting Bail should be dropped have rocks in their head. Yes, he wasn't terribly good today. But he's been one of our better players overall this year, including dominating last week against St Kilda. One bad game and we call for his head. Ridiculous.

Sellar is struggling badly, but I'm not sure we have any viable replacements. Sylvia was poor today too.

Watts, Bennell, Petterd and Couch are the possible inclusions, but I'm not entirely sure who makes way.

Titan - please see Rohan Bail thread. He has been dog ordinary all year, except for an ok game against the Saints.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
