Just on Watts - I wouldn't be surprised to see him back, because IIRC Casey now have 2 weeks off?

They have Box Hill next week followed by a bye and the week after is the representative game so it's 2 weeks off after next week.

Unbelievable. Viney & Gysberts in the one match and first up game for Jack. Smithy's curse strikes again.

Interesting to see these names. Thanks for the reports KC & others. Would like to hear more on Couchy, JB, Fitzy, Ricky who haven't rated much comment so far - when our generous scouts get the chance to report.

Hang in there Gys & Jack - work hard to get back on the track. Looking forward to seeing you out there again.

Yes, completely understandable. Who has suggested otherwise ? Why do you think I'm reading the thread ?

Two broken jaws in one game!! Now how bad fan luck get - and especially for poor Gys who just racks up the injuries.

Did anyone see both incidents?

The bests being ALL MFC listed players is always a good sign.

Bennell pushing hard for a recall.

BUMP: Does anyone have an update on the "suspected" broken jaws on Viney and Gys??

It was great seeing Liam play again after what he's been through these past 8 months.

I reckon he went ok, and was one of the best in the opening quarter. He showed he had bit in reserve when he spun around and goaled over his shoulder in the last quarter, before leading out for a mark and just missing another shot. He then followed up with a lightning hand pass goal assist. I'm no expert, but his touch was pretty good, but he probably needs 2-3 weeks in the VFL to build up his match fitness. All in all it was a good hit out for him and his coaches should be pleased to see him get through a game after being out for so long. Today I'm a happy man.

Keep us updated on Liam's progress. We all really appreciate it.

The hit on viney was fair from where I sat. He was on the end of a chain of ever slowing handballs, the last forcing him to stop dead to be able to take it, wojo had momentum and justifiably nailed the stationary target. No case to answer for mine.

There would be no way I'd pick watts on todays efforts, cruised through the game, is far too good for this level but the insatiable appetite for the contest wasn't quite there for mine. His stats flattered him.

Best game I've ever seen fitzpatrick play, he certainly seems to have improved in quantum leaps, would be a big chance to get a call up. One goal in particular where the ball went over his head, he turned and grabbed it, arched the back to gap his opponent and then took on and beat a second oncoming opponent to run into goal. Had great agility for a big man, and also puts his body into making contests, crucially playing in front more often than not.

FFS why is there always a dark shadow over anything remotely positive happening at this club?

There goes half a season of Gysberts developing. Fantastic.

No he can still put some miles in his legs which is the one area he struggled in pre-season. We know he can get the ball and deliver it, he just needs to develop a bigger engine.

According to the ABC (Kelly Underwood), the hit on Viney by Wojo was "very late" - the ball had left the vicinity... Geelong BigFooty forum fear the worst at the tribunal...

Negligent, high, severe and late. There is no case to argue, even in the VFL. Gawn.

Just watched a replay (6.30 on 7) of Wojinski deliberately hitting Viney in the face with his hand, then they cut to Viney going off the ground with his broken jaw.

It looks bad but i suspect the two incidents could be unrelated, as (according to reports here) the incident that broke Viney's jaw occurred in the field of play.

Yes, they were two very separate incidents.

No offence to Wojinski but one of those players that always annoyed me. Most probably linked to him being one of those players that as soon as someone hands him the ball the commentators start frothing at the mouth about his speed and dashing runs which is almost always linked to him bursting through the half back line to kick it straight down the oppositions throats. I can hear Bruce now "Scarlett to Wokinksi, Oh you now he's got some speed and there he goes on one of those trademark runs owwghhh grrraaa umm slober etc"

This is just a rumour but the story going around is that Joel Selwood is out of the big one.

Hmmn, Neil Balme may have been Neil Busy for a week?

Watts 20 disposals, 4 goals. Looks like he took being dropped in the right way, too good to languish in VFL, should be back in the seniors.

Next week:

IN: Watts & Jurrah (as sub)

OUT: Dunn & whoever doesn't play their role this week

I'd love to see Petterd, Blease and Bennel playing well back in the senior team, but want to see them playing consistently in the bests at Casey. All 3 have potential to be very good AFL players, but their deficiencies are holding them back. Let's hope these 3 develop and come on asap!

Nup, I'd keep Watts out for 2 or 3 weeks to let things sink in.

Bringing him straight back just diminishes the whole Idea of Him lifting his workrate to somewhere he's capable of. Instead of just meandering about for 18 odd kicks.

He's Got to start to give everything he's got, or he'll be a wasted talent... if not.

Watts actually does a lot off the ball. If you look at pack marking situations, he's often the guy putting on blocks and shoving opponents out of the way. The problem is that we need him to be the one taking the mark. The big problem with his game is his tackling and repeat efforts. Generally if he's knocked out of the contest he falls over and that's the end of it. He needs to be back up and into them over and over again.

Yeah, repeat efforts & running hard both ways, is watt he needs to do. He looks like he prefers to play on the spot. Doing what he can there. Workrate?

In 12 monsth Wojinski will be an Ex AFL player and JV wll be on his way so it's a moot point.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
