Ten minutes into the last, Casey Scorpions 17.7.109 to 12.5.77.

Official now - Team sheets in for Geelong v Melb. Selwood and Lonergan both out. Byrnes and Gillies in. No changes for Melbourne.

Jack Viney was involved in a heavy collision going for the ball. Sickening collision. Walking the boundary line with a trainer and holding something in his mouth.

Wow. Big out's for Cats. In the scheme of things, it won't reallyt matter though...

Gaz just reporting on Triple M that Jack already put one player out of the game, but then got hit by Wojinski and was down for a minute, which was, as Gaz said, probably the longest he has ever been down his life. toughest young player he's ever seen

Was the other guy stretchered off?

FCS!

Just read on HS website the Gysberts got a broken jaw in the first quarter.

Not a close one here today. Casey 9 goals in front. Watts has four!

Jack Viney is one tough kid. Dishes it out and gets it back in spades. The hit on him was pretty crude IMO.

Was the other guy stretchered off?

No - David Wojcinski landed the bump. Jack was down on the floor for about a minute and then walked off the ground. Then walked around the boundary line to the rooms.

Scorpions by 53 points - 25 min mark last quarter.

Of course it's perfectly acceptable. Who could be critical of supporters barracking for them or considering them "ours" ?

Although I don't and they're not Melbourne's team. They're just irrefutable facts.

What a load of rubbish. Get your facts straight.

If Casey is not Melbourne's team in the VFL who is? Is it still Sandringham? No they are St.Kilda's team. Is it Frankston? No they are a stand alone team.

Gee 'Ben-Hur' you have got me stumped. It appears that if Casey is not 'OUR SIDE' then we do not have one in the VFL.

I think I know the problen Ben-Hur you do not have a Melbournefc membership so therefore your do not have a membership of the Casey Scorpions.

It's called an affiliation. We are not the Casey Scorpions Football Club.

I've been a member since 1996. I was at Dallas Brooks Hall that year too as part of the Demon Alternative group.

I said "let's not derail" and I won't respond to you further.

If true and I guess it is, absolutely shattering news about Gysberts broken jaw. Melbourne continues to struggle to keep its young players with potential on the park.

K rock's like listening to a SA station - some chook just stated that Watts hasn't done much.

Give us a break. Apart from his four goals at this late stage of the game Watts would be close on 20 touches.

Viney is now off the ground after that collision.

And the siren sounds. It's all over with Casey Scorps 22.8.140 to Geelong Cats 14.10.94.

Cold here and nothing to do for an hour but walk smugly among the Cats fans.

Best for Casey were Watts, Bennell and Fitzpatrick.

Why are you implying that there is something Melbourne could have done to prevent a collision injury like a broken jaw.

Broken jaw is 6 weeks out. Gysberts horrible start to 2012 continues.

I know I feel obliged to follow Casey (just as I was to Sandy once upon a time). I take a keen interest in the Dees' VFL affiliate Casey because that's where our boys play!

Yes, completely understandable. Who has suggested otherwise ? Why do you think I'm reading the thread ?

Any news on the Gysberts injury?

Yet another first round pick with heaps of talent missing games. We must be the unluckiest club going around. Watts, Gysberts, Jurrah, Blease, Petterd, all playing at a lower level, yet have more talent than nearly all their counterparts playing for Melbourne this week. It's a sad state of affairs at the moment.

Well done to Casey today. Sounds like a very solid win!

Melbourne continues to struggle to keep its young players with potential on the park

The MFC can hardly be blamed for this turn of events.

twitter on the MFC website said that Viney also suspected broken jaw as well. 2 in the one game ain't great, but you imagine it's cos the boys have their heads over the ball, so its an unlucky injury for sure.

On triple M just now:

Gysberts AND Viney both off to hospital now with suspected broken jaws.

According to MFC twitter, Viney and Gysberts both being sent to hospital for scans on suspected broken jaws.

What the? Not implying that at all, sorry if thats how it read. Simply saying its shattering we cant keep these young guns up and about and on track for the seniors!

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
