The talented midfielder showed great maturity and improvement in his second season. Missed three games in controversial circumstances after being cited for his tackle on Adelaide's Dangerfield.

The future leader demonstrated his loyalty to the club late in the season by extending his contract till the end of 2015.

Really looking forward to his career.

Great head on his shoulders.

Start of 2013 and our best mids will probably be Trengove, McKenzie, Gysberts, Viney, and Bail. Maybe Moloney ahead of Bail...

Brave new world...

Future star for sure. The way he carried himself all through this year, from T$gate to tacklegat was sensational. A kid who we can all be really proud of as a committed MFC player.

He reminds me alot of a tripple premership, brownlow / normsmith medallist player for the Cats.... Reliable set shot and goal, great overhead, likes the tough stuff, and is generally a footballers footballer!

He's our Jimmy Bartell.

Maybe Moloney ahead of Bail? All those names have a long way to go to be ahead of Moloney!

Anyway Jack had a great year. Overhead marking is great, skills a very good. A lot of strengths for the kid! Hope he can continue his improvement!

Nope, he's our Jack Trengove, and would that he could reach ANY of the heights of Jimmy Bartel! One thing is, he will captain of an AFL club before JB! Maybe he'll acheive everything Bartel has, and that will be his point of difference, hehehee.

Viney, in his first season, will be in our Top 5 midfielders? Wowee, this kid must be good (especially considering in his first year he will be better than Moloney).

A lot of people on here see the Bartel comparison - I'm buggered if I do! JT to me is a clone of Luke Hodge. Has shown that agressive side early in their career (Hodge had to be told to settle down by the club IIRC), can go forward and kick goals, or play the sweeper role on half back. I guess that's what Bartel does too, but I just think build-wise, JT and Hodge are very, very similar.

Man crush.

Although concerningly, isn't 2015 when he becomes available under free agency?

Nope. He would need to have given 8 years to the club. That puts it at the end of 2017 before he's a free agent.

I also think the world of this kid. Every time he appears in public he does something to further the reputation of te football club. He must be the PR department's dream come true.

My only concern is that I see him through such ridiculously rose coloured glasses that even I recognise it, so I could be setting myself up for huge disappointment (cue rpfc...). I just find it really hard to form an objective opinion of him.

Anyway, he's a certainty for the captain role after Green makes way for mine.

Trenners is a smart and hard-working footballer. He's as hard as nails with courage to match, has very solid skills (especially overhead marking) and shows maturity beyond his years and experience. He's a ripper and we are very lucky to have him. His loyalty is an added bonus. Fifth placing in the Bluey in only his second year was an exellent achievement. If he continues to develop as I expect, he will be a star and a leader at our Club.

Congratulations on getting co-captaincy, a more deserving recipient you will not see. Thanks for sticking by us when we were going through that rough patch too, you are a gun!

If Grimes has his usual 'OMG he has broken what bone?" injury, Trengove may find himself "The Captain" for a few games.

I'm sure he will handle it fine.

This guy is the real deal

Nothing stopping Jack from being a 300 game Demon Champion

Will drag alot of players with him is what excites me

Still think he will be an AA captain before his career is over ..............who knows what else

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
