Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Leadership group announced; Grimes and Trengove co-captains

Not keen on Co Captains. Would have preferred one captain only. Grimes has hardly been on the park. Beamer should not have been left out of the leadership group and should have been Capt with Trenners as VC.

Of the 8 members of our new leadership group, 5 were present at the 186 match in July.

Garland , Frawley, Jamar, Jones, and Trengove.

Of the 4 guys demoted, 3 played that day - Green, Rivers and Moloney who left the field at 1/2 time without touching the ball. Maybe that performance stuffed his chances this year

Davey, Grimes and Bartram were injured dnp.

The co-captains idea is one I am not a fan of, but considering the long, dark tunnel the MFC is emerging from, this is the exact right way to go. These two boys are natural leaders and in our top 10 players.

I am less convinved about the assistant leaders. Bartram as a leader? I have never heard nor seen any evidence of this. Clark?. He hasn't even played a game with us.

Maybe they felt they had to have a least one fwd in the LG and they saw him as the best fit. Howe and Watts may be future leaders in the fwd group?

Well im stoked. I knew Jack T would make a great captain. He is great on the field, an outstanding speaker and he went to the club last year and said I want to re-sign for 3 more years.

I feel a bit sorry for Green being out of the group all together but last year he couldnt deal with it and had a shocker and the year before he was outstanding. There is no pressure on him now as captain.

Moloney surprised me but Im sure Mark spoke to him and Beamer will do what he does best. Just go in hard for the footy.

I guess there are some surprises but we arent around the club so we dont know how these players are.

Im glad we have someone like Neeld at our helm. He has the guts to make the tough call.

On alighter note anyone read Max Gawns tweet.

For those @gawndog37 fans that are shattered with the news of captaincy! No need to worry i just got appointed skipper of my mums dream team. Ha HA love his humour. Shattered he wont be playing in 2012,

Good call.

Very perculiar call regarding leadership group- kick in the face to Rivers with Garland picked instead. Furthermore, Clark picked and no Moloney-wow- open to a hell of a lot of in fighting. And Bartram- isn't he from ocean grove- Barwon Heads where Neeld lives?

If that happens then it just legitimises the decision.

Not personally, but in training and in games he has been very quiet. Not having a go at the guy, just saying he is a quiet type. His nickname was Humphrey!

Ha ha funny you should say that. I know him very well, he doesn't say much but when he gets on a roll with his smarta&se comments he's unstoppable!!

This isn't a democray nor a popularity conexst about hurting others feelings.

Neeld has made the tough and correct choices here. Rivers will be a professional and suck it up.

Guess what happens if he doesn't?

I love the record angle with Trengove's age.

Yes i tend to agree with your point on Moloney down at Geelong. He had the Flu...he should have been in bed, to say he was fit to play was not a good call for a v/c..leaving the field at half time with 0 stats

said it all.

Coach Neeld would have looked very closely at last years results, particularly 186 before throwing it all in the bin to start a fresh.

The Senior leaders had to go...the new coach lives by his own sword, not an old one handed down from Dean Bailey.

The Moloney decision is unacceptable! IMO. The decision of Clark baffles me. According to Lion supporters he can throw tantrums on field and is anything but a leader. Maybe he was promised a leadership role as part of his massive pay packet.

Very happy with Grimes and Trengove.

How does this affect Moloney's passion for the club. I'm sure it will be fine, but after B/F win, top 10 blownlow and a late night indiscretion, I would be gutted if I were him. Some on here are saying he might have turned the leadership group down. Highly unlikely after he wanted so bad to make up for VC loss.

I'm not worried about Green, Davey or Rivers, as I think they need to concentrate on footy. When is Moloney up for free agency? I just think for a bloke who bleeds for MFC, Beamer was unlucky under Bartram. I hope he keeps the fire.

Congrats to those selected.

If players got the call-up, it's because they earned it - endorsed by the players, the coaching staff, the FD and the board.

The idea, for example, that Bartram might be in the group because he's from Ocean Grove beggars belief. As for Clark, Rawlings would know him well from the Lions, so it's not as if he's an unknown. So what if he hasn't played for the club, if he's earned it, good on him. In any case, it's not without precedent that transferred players step into leadership positions.

Finally, the selections only confirm for me how little we actually know of the players and the inner workings of the club. We see them from the other side of a fence, for a couple of hours each week. Enough perhaps to form an opinion on their playing capabilities - but not much more than that IMHO.

Out of all of the players named in the leadership group the selection of Bartram sends the loudest message. It is a really interesting selection.

The old leaders have slumped their shoulders and stared at their feet when things aren't going well on field, they've whinged and moaned when the ball isn't kicked to them, they've clearly squibbed body contact and feigned injury, they've been out on the town when they should be in bed, they've giggled through their response to the most humiliating defeat of the last 30+ years, and they've declared themselves fit only to come of at 1/2 time with doughnuts in the stats column.

Maybe the kids don't respect them that much anymore.

Funny you should say that because I've seen Moloney do exactly the same. In any case and as others have said, who are we to pass judgement on these selections? All I know is last years leadership was at times non-existent and I remember on a couple of occasions self-congratulatory such as after the win against GC early on.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
