Water Cooler chat...Neon Leon to the Dees on Tuesday

Regardless of anything else the notion that we can recruit a 30yo veteran to the "rookie" list certainly makes a mockery of the whole process.

SO does spending $6m on a 2 yr player. AFL is a mockery of itself.

Title speaks fo itself. Rumour told to me this morning by prominent Dees fan who is a past board member. Still close with people at the club. Don't ask for names, but make of it what you will.....

Tomorrow morning, could you please check whether someone's slipped any vodka into the water cooler.

Theoretically, I suppose we could pay over the odds for a rookie and we could upgrade him and play him first up but is it consistent with the club's policies to draft a player in his 30s who might have a year or two left in him and to use that player at the expense of someone younger coming through the ranks?

It would have to be a long shot IMO.

I heard Davis' manager Liam Pickering explain on radio that his client had walked out on Collingwood for two reasons:-

1. He wanted to go back home to WA or to his partner's home town of Adelaide and

2. The money.

I think Pickers also mentioned he had something lined up for Davis in the WAFL.

I can't see us offering big money for a 30 year old rookie or him wanting to remain here in those circumstances probably for less coin and at a new club. It just doesn't add up to me.

Why would we go for a player that is 30plus at the stage where we are at?

Unlikely.

I hear what you're saying Rhino, but having a player at that end of their career not only adds experience and knowledge to the side, they also create a bit more competition for spots.

Though as far as Leon is concerned... It just isn't gunna happen, but I want whatever was in that water cooler.

Swan Districts have pulled their offer to Davis, while West Perth have offered him good money and a job away from football. Peel & Perth are also chasing him. He will either play at Port or WAFL, nowhere else so close the thread!

Having such a player just blocks the opportunities for LT younger players. I struggle to see what a 30yo twilight player offers MFC given its LT time line for success.

While we aren't playing in September, he probably offers a bit. If there is any chance we are playing finals in 2012, I'm sure the likes of Taggert of Tynan will get grerat experience from playing in finals, because Leon won't be in the team.

Had a water cooler moment today saying that we are going to re-rookie Juice, and that we've already asked the AFL for special permission to put him on a 3-year contract so that he will be eligible for the veterans list.

And then you woke up?

Unfortunately, or should I say, fortunately we don't have a water cooler at work to experience such a moment.

But by the coffee pot recently, I was wondering if the late train-on player addition (possibly having been kept under wraps from prying eyes) will be drafted ?

Now Davis may in fact be the story of 2011.

Plays all year with a grand finalist, plays so well he is nominated as an all australian.

Contract ends and wants more than the Pies are offering so decides to move to another team for 2012.

Only thing is no body is interested and he ends up without a team in the AFL.

Now that is probably over simpifying it but you would have to say

- He was poorly advised

- over priced himself

- Thought he had a home to go to but the deal went sour

- or did he just want to go home to WA but changed his mind when it was too late

I would love to know the real story

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
