We could take the swans 8th spot

Dont laugh peoples but we have 3 winnable games and sydney play the saints at home, geelong at skilled and brisbane at home. Sydney are on 38 points and we are on 30. I expect stkilda to beat them and geelong.

It would just be funny if we slipped in. I reckon we would be one of the worst 8th placed teams to play finals.

We dont deserve to be there and I wouldnt want to play Carlton or WC but its just a possibility.

I wouldn't be counting on beating Richmond given our form and the fact they just flogged the Swans.

Now now Ned...none of that realism thanks.

Clearly we are watching different games.

Melbourne will be lucky to have another win this season.

+1. In what universe will we beat Richmond next week? Looking forward to a close game against the suns though B)

Exactly.

Remember we play other clubs who are professionals as well. Some of the insular notions of posters on this site is baffling.

No value... finish 8th and get hammered by Carlton at Etihad (?).

Richmond, Gold Coast and Port in Adelaide to come... only the Gold Coast is a certainty.

We are in serious strife as a footballing unit right now... it's very sad.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. I laughed so much the guy next door came running in to see what was going on

We would be making up the numbers. Better to come 9th and get a proper pre-season, and get on with appointing the new coach. On the last two weeks do you see us realistically beating Carlscum or Soggy Toast?

Better to come ninth? Why? The supporters have the same amount of killer instinct as the players currently. Grow some stones .. Make the 8, face a good team and expose these guys to where they need to get to. Sure they lose, but they need to play finals FFS.

Take a leaf out of essendon, Carlton and collingwoods book (the historically successful clubs) and demand success.

This is such a Melbourne football club supporters attitude.

Sick of it.

Nothing to do with bad attitude from the supporters mate. Do you seriously think our boys deserve to make finals?

What kind of message does it send to our young men if we can perform as badly and inconsistently as we have this year

and still make finals? They have to earn that right. Finals experience will come when they can perform consistently at a

level that warrants it throughout the season.

As for the supporters, well we have been beaten from pillar to post in recent times. Making a finals series we have no

right to be in and getting thumped whilst putting out another sub VFL performance holds no excitement for me and

I'm sure many other supporters. I wouldn't think that attitude would be too different to the majority of supporters from

any AFL club and I couldn't give a [censored] if it did.

I hope we win our three remaining games and miss out on the finals.

The club has bigger fish to fry than to fall into the top eight without deserving to be there.

We need to locate a new coach and plan our pre season. We need to decide who to keep, who to trade and we need to rejig our list and determine who leads at the club. Too much to do to be distracted by a finals campaign. We know what we're like against the better clubs. We're shite.

What...get 8th, and have everyone think it was a SUCCESSFUL season? Rather we miss and we take true stock of where we are than somehow has a sunshine shot up our ass from a mathematical aberration.

My stones are in fine nick, thanks. I dont want this rabble in the finals - I want them working on what will make then successful in next years finals. Extra weeks in the finals (even 1) means a later preseason start. They do NOT need to play finals, they need to play football, ffs.

I love the ol'd mathematical probability and I'll keep my hopes up until it's no longer possible - why? cause I love the MFC and would love them to sneak in.

However, what I really am looking forward to is the change in attitude of everyone on here when we play 3 teams that aren't in the top 4. I cant wait to see Frawley dispose of Reivolt and us smash GCFC and break the AAMI hoodoo. That will be enough for me to finish the season. 10 and a half wins and a full pre-season....

bring on 2012!

Spot-on Chell. It would be a travesty if we scraped in on the back of our very soft draw, and there are much more important things on the MFC agenda right now.

Think of how awsome an experience it would be for all our young players. They will have the oportunity to get beaten by over 100 points in a final.

I totally agree in regard to our inconsistency blah blah blah, but if you win enough games you "deserve" to get in. Every extra game especially a final can only help Watts, Trengove, Scully etc in the future.

I just can't believe people don't want to make finals under any circumstances, it's got to be in good form...or with momentum...sunshine will not be blown up their backsides if they lose in the finals. Have you thought how it may ignite something even deeper in their motivation.

Do you think Richmonds Chris Newman ever wished to come ninth all those times? It's not a given that we naturally improve as every other club does also.

Take it when you can.

Sydney will win their last against Brisbane. Finals chance kaput

Time to focus on other things such as trade time, new coach, assistants.

Oh shite, I nearly forgot Garry's review. Need that before we move on the above.....at least i'd hope so

I'd also love to see as many Casey players come in who deserve it (or half deserve it....couldn't be anymore undeserving than a few who came in this week) for the last 3 games and start getting some of the leaner younger pups/and Green (our 1 and only veteran) who are going to be with us for next year, a few weeks off a tad earlier than usual. It's been a long year.

We can then get them into the gym/fitness program a few weeks earlier, start pumping them up and putting better man size bods onto them in readiness for next year. I realise we can't replace every rookie (about 12 or so in most of our matches this year), but i'd like to see the bottom 4 - 6 (least experienced/youngest/leanest) replaced and put into some sort of early prep program.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
