I know you guys got stuck into me by suggesting recruiting Bradshaw, but I'm sticking to my guns on this one.

Would be a good move by the club IMO, if the luke Ball option falls over. Our forward line is young and raw and we don't have a player who you know will kick his 4 goals a week.

This would be quite a nice forward line:

Sylvia Miller Bate

Jurrah Bradshaw Wonna/Maric

The club has always maintained the position that they will be landing a big fish in the PSD, and Bradshaw fits that criteria.

A short-term solution yes, but the club needs to start winning games.

The herald sun needs to find something footy related in the off season. An absolute non-story.

We won't be getting Bradshaw.

I would find it very strange if we drafted Bradshaw considering we waited until he has nominated Sydney and did not even contact him to make an offer when he made himself available. Would be very very surprised if we tried to get him. Every uncontracted player will be linked with us before the PSD

Bradshaw is not a big fish. He is 30+ with dodgy hamstrings at the near twilight of a good career. Didn't he state that he wanted to go Sydney? Ever thought this might be decoy PR release in the whole Ball saga? I would not be happy if MFC was to pay over his market price at Sydney to play here.

The club needs to start winning games but it needs to do that from the core ingredients its been working on (developing quality youth) and picking up real class in the engine room in Scully and Trengove and possibly Ball. Bradshaw is questionable icing to it.

Barring fitness, I would disappointed if Watts did not warrant playing at least the majority of games this year for MFC up forward or learning the game via the wing etc.

No way we'll take Bradshaw

A journo has asked the question - and we've said that we're not ruling him (or anyone ) out. It's all a game to keep the other clubs guessing.

Well apart from Luke Ball is there any? Welsh, McPhee, Joel McDonald and a healthy Jesse Smith would probably come close.

I wouldn't call any of those "big fish". Just middle of the road players who would all probably add something to the side, but I wouldn't lose any sleep for missing out on them.

So if there isnt any esperienced beside Ball then why stake the "big fish" for the sake of it?

If Ball is interested and he passes his medical he provides us with a real benefits in the midfield and leadershiip where we are lacking.

Bradshaw is for a team trying to go for a window in the next 2 to 3 years. Sydney and Carlton....but not MFC.

Its not a matter about having a claim a name player but more securing an experienced player that definitely offers upside for our long term goals. I cant see the value in trumping Sydney financially for Bradshaw. I dont see him giving us that value.

Playing the game I reckon, i would be surprised if there was anyone at the club who is serious about picking him up. Maybe we're trying to force Sydney into a slightly tougher situation so they can't just take him for free in the PSD.

This article is a complete Non-event, written by a journalist who only can write articles based on speculative opinion, that most common people can deduce. If you read the article, all it states is: We have the number 1 pick in the PSD, we have salary cap room, we have not stated we won't pick him.

It's a rubbish article, that does not tell the football anything they don't already know...but hey what's new for Mark Stevens!

Posted

Even if we do get him, I won't really mind. We have to spend the money somewhere, and I'd rather use it on Bradshaw than up the contracts of undeserving players.

Posted

A joke of an article from someone who clearly knows little about the Dees. The article is on nothing. Our FD refused to make comment on Bradshaw and on this an article is writen.

What a joke.

Posted

This is nothing but HUN rubbish.

Bradshaw wants to play for Sydney. Not for Melbourne.

Melbourne wants youth. Not a 30 year old (hence we delist Robertson).

We will not be taking Bradshaw. End of story.

Posted

Smells like a bit of foxing to me. Just lets Ball know that whilst we'd love him to join it isnt the end of the world if he doesnt; we have options and will be moving on and upwards with or without him.

Its a funny game footy

Mark Stevens - lightweight. Fell into the footy by accident. Rarely, if ever, writes anything insightful. Just takes press-release dictation.

"Jeez. I'm stuck for copy; what can I write? I know. I'll take a punt on Bradshaw to Melbourne. Should create waves. Well, ripples, anyw... zzzzzzzz"

Posted

The only real truth is that we ( MFC ) have kept schtum on any other intentions. Thats good ...keeps options open :)

Posted

Wouldn't take Bradshaw if he paid to come to MFC

he is well and trully passed his prime and those hamstrings will last

half the distance of G. Lyon's. Should of had another year at Brisbane then retired he's

gone a bit money hungry and if sydney are dumb enough to pay him they can have him.

Posted

I think MFC will just use this ruse as a distraction. We dont need to say anything...just keep 15 other clubs on their toes.. is worth it for that alone

Posted

This was probably a misintepretation of a reporter asking CC or TH about the 'ethics of the draft.'

We, because we want Luke Ball to know this, see the draft as an order of teams that see no restrictions on themselves drafting anyone who is eligible.

In essence, the MFC could pick up an unwilling Bradshaw because the rules of the draft allow them to, just the way Port Adelaide can pick up an unwilling Luke Ball should he decide to go to the ND while announcing his desire to get to Pick 30 and Collingwood.

Absolutely 100% correct! Beautifully spoken by the way.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
