Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Think I remember that guy. Didn’t he absolutely tan your backside during that monster $cully thread when he was the ONLY poster in the entire D’Land community to say Scully was telling fibs and was on his way to GW$?

I think you had a similar whinge then about him making the thread “entirely about himself”. RR the narcissist! RR’s not a real Melbourne supporter! Please please mods ban RR! Etc etc. I do recall reading all those and many more slights against that guy way back when.

Well, here we are again my friend. Years later, similarly controversial circumstances centred on an emotionally sensitive trade, the D’Land sheep herd going one way ... a lone dissident poster bravely going another. And the chorus line of ninnies are up in arms again. Potting a guy who’s views are deemed to be heretical to the Fanboy Establishment.

I can empathise with how that RR fellow must have felt at that time. It does bring to mind that wonderful quote by the great Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi ... “Even if you are a minority of one, the Truth is the Truth.”

But you guys carry on going over your deluded permutations of Pick 5 and what the club will and won’t have in the kit bag by deadline tomorrow. You go on believing that Hogan’s manager really did put an $8mil/8year demand to Freo and that this is the reason negotiations went pear shaped. I realise it gives many of you a sense of solace that things really are happening behind the scenes and that those nincompoops in purple will magically be brought to heel at the eleventh hour.

Rpfc a few on here have sportingly laid cojones on the line with a wager to change their avatar if I’m right on this one. Tommy & Phil for you for old time’s sake? I reckon that poster RR who schooled you back in the day would get a bit of a chuckle seeing that, wherever he is out there in cyberspace.

”His-to-ry never repeats ... I tell myself before I go to sleep.”

As the bigger decisions (Hogan/May) haven't been made we simply don't know what the 'other decisions' are (except maybe KK) so its fair to raise the question of what other deals are held up or will be missed.

We won't miss out on anything, other than Steven May if the Hogan deal falls through.  KK will be done regardless, and unless we pull off a deal for a fringe player (eg. McKenna), then I'd say our business is pretty much done.

And I was only being facetious with my comments anyway.  We take trade week far too seriously.

I think it is both him and his brother posting, thus the large body of work.

What is the worth of a contract in terms of tenure?

Not much if you consider what has been happening recently.

The emotional notion of a player wanting to "go home"" seems to be an acceptable reason and clubs take a pragmatic view that they do not want to keep a player who is not committed. This encourages the club to get a good trade deal. In other words, clubs become opportunistic in their view of the whole thing.

One thing feeds the other.

How do you change this behaviour or indeed do you want to?

My point is that if you think contracts are important then you need to hold both parties to his terms at least in regard to tenure.

Otherwise, the whole contract thing is a charade, and not worth the paper its written on. Signing a player for a specific period of time is meaningless.

The only way for this to change is for clubs

-not to recruit interstate players so that the go home factor does not become an issue.

-include further provisions in the contract that make it clear that both parties will be held to its terms other than in the case of death or disability

-include cost penalty provisions where a party is in breach.

-to ensure that all clubs hold to the terms of the contract and not take the expedient view of trading out the unhappy player.

These suggestions may appear unrealistic but the alternative is to have an industry where the importance of contracts becomes totally devalued, thereby destabilizing player lists, club planning and coaching strategies.

There is acceptance by supporters that top players become targets for other clubs and that players can try and get the best deal for themselves. Yet at the same time, supporters will become disillusioned if there is the sense that players can just move club at the drop of a hat, on the grounds that they want to go home.

Sure they can go home but consistent with the terms of their contract.

I know everything.

No, seriously, I'm just going by the fact that pretty much everything is out in the open these days.  Every deal done so far has been discussed prior to it happening, so I highly doubt we've got major things cooking outside of Steven May and KK, which is what I believe Mahoney was referring to.

Thank you. Amazing when somebody actually follows a logical and linear argument on here. It was well known we had several targets, according to Mahoney. With 28 hours left, we have traded Tyson for Preuss. Lost Kent and gained nothing else. So what I was alluding to was what are these other dominos that we hoped would fall. We have been held up and they may never fall?

wow some Manifesto, dig in deeper!

FWIW I've enjoyed you input, even if there's been too much of it - a bit like too many Tim Tams.  But I can't help feeling you're headed for a crash - the odds favour the trade going through.  I'm not confident to call it one way or the other but if you end up being right massive kudos to you!

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
