Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Changes vs Sydney

Make no mistake Sydney will be up and about after a win like that. Return to form for Buddy and back training, Jack and McVeigh will be better for the run, so too Alex Johnson plus the potential ins of Hannebery and Rohan. I actually feel more confident of beating WCE now than I do Sydney.

You thought we'd lose to Gold Coast

The same source that told me Hibb would return before finals.  However that same source said Hibb was only 2 to 3 weeks which has now become 4 lol. Supposed to be returning vs Eagles

Buddy is about the only tall in Swans forward half.  Frost IMO will be 1st option on Bud.. as he has the speed to go with him.  OMc does not.

If Bud plays Deep... Neither OMc or Frost have the body strength.

If Allir Allir or other goes forward with Buddy, we don't have the cattle to match him.

Pedo comes in as Full back and has the strength to match Buddy or Allir Allir in deep defence

Pedo is a much better kick than either OMc or Frost..  and he can run with the ball and deliver.

OMc has been off his game recently.

This game against the Swans is a MUST WIN Game for us, as we compete for the same area of the ladder...  Much much more important than the games against the Eagles or the Giants...  as these 2 teams are a lock-in for Finals.

We can hold out the Swans and save our spot inside the eight.

THIS is the crucial game for our season, right now.

I don't think either JKH or Vanders will come out of this team...  they are both too mature and reliable, defensively.

IF any others miss it would be Fritsch... He is tired and needs a break, but we cannot afford to be without him in this important match, because of his reading the play, and his skills at both ends.

I would rest Fritsch against the Eagles, in Perth.

.

Some good arguments about defensive, physical strength and despatch forward. The Pedo/Frost tag team with Jetta mop-ups and intercepts appeals ... but run everywhere else is critical against the Swans. As well, the Swans will fight the game out from the first bounce until three seconds after the final siren ... endurance and sharpened recovery will be critical for the Dees.

if our ability to run the ball is hampered on the wide MCG

Could be. Each time I attend a 'G match, there are acres of Southern Stand flanks the whole length of the ground not being used.

Our players and those of many opponent teams focus on the Members flank and/or the midline in the search for media attention and glory, or reserved clapping from those who may well pay the bills.

We need to change that hesitation to use our Southern flanks - it is literally a paddock of space play after play - yes, that's right, the one that:

  • Travis Johnstone used to almost run the length of the ground so often, uncontested;
  • Stanley the Alves dodged hundreds of opponents within across his career landing the ball as a pass or accessible bomb;
  • Brett Bailey repeatedly carried and bounced the ball along from deep defence to the wing to set up our forwards;
  • Robbie etched as his centreline for a running goal or two when no-one else could score.
  • Aaron Davey exploited time and again to gain for the Dees a 60m advantage in a matter of uncontested seconds.

Gut runs. Plenty of these are needed and there is plenty of space to move into for uncontested ball possession - if we run.

NB: How could one overlook Hungry Bartlett and The Ox kicking freakish goals from that same flank, so often? Francis Bourke, too. And those receives and goals from Greg Wells and Rigoni, Leoncelli, et al?

No chance they make 4 changes including 3 unforced after a near 100pt win

Hunt or Wagner and Melk will come in for Smith and JKH

I'm actually starting to think Melksham won't return till the WC game.

Jones kind of hinted we'll be conservative with him in his presser today.

I reckon it's a cover up, he was rested and will 100% play v SYD

Goody said in the post match presser Melk was 50/50 to play the Swans.  Maybe just hedging his bets in case he needs 1 more week.

My source says he is cherry ripe Tracc.

We will just have to wait I guess

I’m now leaning towards them getting Hunt into the team. I know he hasn’t played much footy since returning but I feel like his form drop was a confidence and application thing. His numbers over the weekend were good. If we can get his run off half back back into the side that could be a bit of x-factor.

I wonder if Hunts role was affected by the inclusion of Lever ? He was clearly out of sorts before being dropped as was Lever at the time.

Could his role be changed now that Lever is not returning til next year?

If Hunt regains form he is a big inclusion!

We need a third tall in the side and not necessarily to play on buddy.   However Pedersen should come in to help in the back line and if that does not work atleast  he can go forward swapping with TMAC and also helping in the ruck. Hopefully we won't need to use TMAC on Buddy and the likes. Although Pedo  is in good form at Casey he is also a big bodied player who  holds his marks. If Melksham is fit to play he must be included for his experience and smarts if not then l can only see the one change.

In Pedersen  Melksham

Out Smith inj.   JKH              JKH would be a bit unlucky to go out.

I think for the team. TMac on buddy. Bring in pedo or weeds to be a focal forward and let hogan lose. Won’t need a big score against swan but need to restrict them.

i doubt they would put TMAC back considering he has not played in the backline for a while.

would be very surprised if they did. (more likely pedo to buddy then tmac to buddy)

So 2010 was our last win against the Swans, that is creeping back into the “embarrassing records” category. Time to knock that off, they’ve inflicted as much pain as anyone else over our dark years. It’s time to give some back.

Yea but injuries don’t heal to a timeline in someone’s head.. I hear some info around injuries and 90% of the time the info is spot on, they also say how long the player could be out, about 50% of the time this comes to fruition.

i was told Clarry broke his hand and would be a week out. Harmes the same, Milky hammy and would be out for 4 the club said 1 week... we will see.

Misson in the injury report said Melksham is going well in rehab and will have a run later in the week. If he doesn’t come up you’d think Kent is a massive chance. Hunt could be the other replacement, has he done enough though?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
