I know it's not good in football to go by gut feel but it's been my view that an interstate club was always going to be his destination, that he needs to get out of the bubble to allow his career to refresh in a different environment. Port have been mentioned around for a little while now and it wouldn't surprise if an in principle deal has already been agreed upon with perhaps some fine tuning to be done during the trade period.

But you're only taking into account the plus side of the ledger, not the minus side. What we lose when Watts leaves is the sum of his contribution, i.e. the sum of both of those - which the club obviously feels is a negative (his negative impact is greater than his positive impact). We're not just losing his good stuff, we're losing the bad/negative stuff as well.

Presumably, outcome here is net gain (subtracting a minus = a plus).

I agree WJ, a fresh start out of Melbourne is what he needs I reckon.

Just think it needs to be a club with strong leadership, and not sure that's Port. Could be wrong.

I would have gone for Geelong or Sydney for those reasons. A couple of seasons back, I would have said Hawthorn, but perhaps not any more. As an aside, wonder what Lewis's role in all this is and what he feels about it.

From our perspective, Port Adelaide doesn't have much to offer by way of a trade. Their top three currently available draft picks are 29, 47 and 66. Unless there are some player & selection swaps involving other clubs, I don't see us benefiting from him going there as distinct from some other clubs.

For all the party boy stuff on Jack Watts, not many partied more than Buddy Franklin and Josh Gibson at a similar age to Watts.

That club did okay during that period.

Supporters are not privy to players preparation, training standards or application.

Do you know the extras that players do out of hours ?  Clubs do.

My preferred option is Jackie acccpts the kick in thearse from Goodwin knuckles down and helps us win a premiership

But I am not sure Jack sees it that clearly just now

I cant sèe what PA could offer us. Jack even in damaged condition is worth  a low 20' pick

It would be so simple  for Jack to recommitt to the Dees

We'd be lucky to get 29 for him. Can't make him stay after the "explore options" message. While at the same time certainly not enhancing his trade value.

If that's the outcome they wanted then at least Jones should've been saying how important Jack is and how he wants him to stay. The messaging has been toxic. It would be embarrassing for Watts to stay now.

I think Sydney would be the best fit for Jack but Port might help. 

As a non Melbourne player (which he is like it or not), I genuinely hope this is the rocket up his arze that he has needed.

There was a time for a cuddle from 2014 through early 2015 (Neeld’s approach would have left many dispirited) but Jack always needed to take responsibility for himself in the end.

Either way, the decision to lay it on the line by looking to trade him has done that.

Unfortunately Hawks traded out their second rounder last year and got back GWS's which is pick 32 before compensation picks. Doubt that will get it done. Their own pick is 29. I see JW's value as end of first round. So will need to offer both, bring in a 3rd club or add a player to get it done.

We not only lose one of our only reliable kicks at goals but we lose a character of the club who is great with kids and supporters alike. I for one am extremely disappointed and I think it shows a lack of loyalty by the club. I just hope it does not have adverse effects s like others players feeling like they can’t trust the club (eg Jesse Hogan, Oliver, etc).  Big mistake I feel

Among Lewis' first impressions were that the Melbourne boys are extremely happy with themselves and know how to party.
