Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You would expect Kent goes to half forward which releases someone like ANB to play more midfield minutes.   The same with Joel Smith, as that may release a Jordan Lewis or Bernie Vince to spend more of their time in the midfield as well.  The selections do make sense.

This. Exactly.

Viney and Tyson out and you replace them with Kent and Joel Smith ... fascinating selections ??

Rather than being direct replacements, Kent/Smith frees up some others in the side to spend more time in the middle

So the Lewis/Vince/Hunt/ANB/Harmes types

Edit....  beaten, by 9 mins!  :-/

If the accidental graphic that has since been removed is correct - I'm not happy with Kent as an in ahead of JKH.

With both Viney and Tyson out we need more from our rotating midfielders and I think JKH offers a lot more to the mix than Kent. I know some on here don't appreciate Tyson's work but Tyson is important in our midfield mix as both a possession player (even though some of his quick kicks out of packs are inefficient, so are many other players in the same situation) and also as a decent pressure player (a consistent mid-count tackler and good at applying smother pressure in packs).

JKH may have had his chances as far as some on DL are concerned but to date he's been played out of position as a forward whereas his best work in the VFL has been as a midfielder. For well over a month he has been extremely good at getting the ball at the coalface and providing pressure to opposition mids, so to not be open minded enough to consider him now would be crazy (IMO). (Imagine how many players would never have made it if we based decision solely on their first few games out of position as a young player and never gave them a chance after improving in the reserves - which is what it is there for?)

The coaches seem to have been happy with Trenners off the HBF of late (rotating through midfield occasionally), so he could do this and be another midfield rotation option and add some leadership to the squad with Viney out.

I would have liked Joel Smith to have another week or 2 in the VFL just to prove his form before we brought him back in. But I think he can come in for Wagner.

As for Kent I think he has been inconsistent at VFL level so I don't think he is ready to come back in to AFL level and have a consistent impact both on the scoreboard and particularly with regards to his forward pressure

My preferred changes would be:

In: Hogan (of course), Garlett (automatic), JKH, Smith, Trengove

Out: Viney, Tyson, Bugg, White, Wagner

This would mean:

I/C: Stretch, Trengove, JKH, Smith

(Emerg: Weideman, Kent and Wagner).

JKH a c grader at best, no scoreboard pressure , struggles in traffic, no physical presence and not quick.  Happy to be wrong. Least Kent can play as a forward.

Kent gets a bit of a beating on here, so will I be run out of town if I say I don't mind him?  I like his pace, goal sense, kicking and ability to create scoring opportunities by using his pace to get it over the back.  If he could bring some intensity and (vastly) improve his defensive pressure I think he could be in the best 22.  I'd like to see him get another go at it.

You are correct with all those things if JKH was coming back into the lineup as a small forward again.

Thankfully he's not, he's coming in as a midfielder - huge tank, thumping kick, nice evasive skills and is coming off several weeks of working hard to effect clearances and tackles.

Deserves his chance and you might have to reappraise. Perfect player for marking Murphy, SPS or Cunningham.

Who plays on Simpson and Docherty?

All of their attack starts from HBF and its in the hands of either of these two.

I can't see Hogan, Trac or Pedo playing a defensive role... so its down to Hannan, Kent and Garlett?

I'd say Hannan gets Docherty and Kent will get Simpson.

I was reading their bigfooty forum and they were debating if they should boo Jesse or not.

I often have a look at other teams forums in the lead up and I have never seen this before.

What a joke. Hope he kicks 13.

Melksham for either Docherty or Simpson. He's been playing really well as a lock down forward over the last few weeks. He did the job on JJ against the Dogs a couple of weeks ago and completely shut him down. He also did a similar job against Shannon Hurn the following week against West Coast.

Just depends if the coaches think he is more required in the midfield.

Kent falls under demonland rule number 1.

  • If you are out of form then you are never going to get back into form.
  • If you were ever playing well in the past, the memory is now blurred and in hindsight you probably in fact were not in form.
  • Your not in the best 22. Therefore you are hopeless and we should trade you now for anything we can get.
  • Your strengths are not that good. Your weaknesses are terrible and you should resign.

Any chance of Kent playing minutes in the centre? Or hammering through from half back like Trac normally does?

Wouldn't the booing be due to belting Rowe? I'm sure Lewis will cop it.

Nah, Kent was sent back to learn how to defend and how to kick goals. He doesn't do enough of either. His stats in our losses demonstrate that he goes completely missing.

His Casey reports have been improving in relation to forward pressure but he still has failed to make a meaningful impact on the scoreboard. He gets his chance again because of injuries.

Your post is most likely tongue in cheek and we all hope Kent can deliver on his talent but he is one of the most frustrating players on our list.

From observing the set ups at training today, Hannan trained with the midfield group. ANB, Jeffy and Kent with the forwards so I wouldn't be surprised if ANB runs with one of them. Do we then use Kent or Jeffy on the other?

I like Kent as well but the last few times we've seen him in the seniors he looked like he wasn't doing the team things like chasin and tackling. If he gets those factors right I think he can be a good player for us.

Its a double bonus with him in and the motivation of his mates. Aside from winning all Dees would love to see this guy kick a bag of 8 or so. Seems to never have had a clear run to get into his stride and show us what he can really do. He deserves to have a day out after the year he has had.

I observed Jesse closely today at training and the one thing I noticed, every time he took a mark where he needed more than one grab he would spend the next few seconds talking to his hands in frustration.

Also when he missed a target by foot even by a short distance, same thing.

The guy is a star in our eyes already but his willignesss to improve and minimise simple little flaws is quite outstanding.

A Carlton friend from way back told me the same thing about Diesel Williams when he watched the Blues train all those years ago.

No doubt his form this year has been disappointing.

But I do think that people forget that he has played some good games for us in the past.

It seems he was injured in the preseason which completely ruined him.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
