Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You won't get nsf to fly by forgetting to mention hundreds of jabs.

CAS aren't buying it either hence their dragging in of players and raising the idea of concern.

2 years minus provisionals. Deal with it Essendon... All your doing.

Now 'bub' you don't know what the CAS are buying and it would seem obvious to at least bring some EFC players in for questioning seeing as they are the ones being charged.

I think there is a little too much over the top comment on here not based on any real evidence that would rival what goes on a the Bomber site. We can't talk about them being delusional and then go making stuff up ourselves.

Am I right that it turns out this saga has to date cost James a cool $1¾m in legals to get where he is today and now he's having a shot at the club's insurer to recover some or all of it back?

He might no longer be a hero in the world of football but to many in the legal profession, he still rocks!!!

There was an article about this some time ago.

Apparently hirdy wanted it all back but the insurance is for being sued  (eg for negligence) and not for bringing the legal action yourself  (as hirdy did when he was trying to stop the asada investigation).

Keep in mind it wasn't  Wada calling the players in. It was CAS. Why would they do that if happy with what they had put forward as their 'story'.Its not only reasonable to draw the conclusion that CAS weren't buying their initial offeringsbut it's supported by their (CAS) comments afterwards.

Some things are actually quite plain to see.

Why wouldn't the CAS want to hear from the players, they might not be buying WADA's view either.

The thing is we don't know.

The outcome will be known soon, if found guilty I hope they throw the book at them. If not then so be it.

If the result is not to your satisfaction 'BB' will you be happy to move on?

I know many of the EFC people will call conspiracy if they are found guilty, what will be the reaction of others.

If guilty I hope the penalty is substantial and not 'Old Dees' wet tram ticket. If they are found to have not enough evidence to convict or not guilty then for mine we move on. The hearing has been fair and above board, no conspiracy's.

Rjay logic suggests they called the players in as their testimony to date would not have lined up with Young's summations. If CAS had thought WADA was offering guesstimate rubbish the players would not have been called. Why bother.

Again that CAS has shown reason to announce its concerns suggests its not WADA that disbelieved.

If CAS finds in favour of the players , whilst surprised and disappointed  I'd move on.

I think CAS verifying information from the players is a necessary strategy. If CAS ends up with a finding which is unfavourable to the players, it avoids the argument that the players were not given a chance to present their views first hand (even though there are lawyers at 20 paces representing them). Conversely, if CAS finds for the players, CAS can say the case presented by WADA was not sufficient, but in order to try to fill the gaps missing in the WADA case, CAS also sought first hand information directly from the players.

I know if I was sitting on the CAS bench it's what I would want to do, even if I found the case open and shut, either way.

Jack.....you are assuming he has paid his bills!!

Always George but in cases of that size (and lesser ones) lawyers like to ask for money up front (or security to cover the costs) and given the weakness of the cases Hirdy was presenting his own lawyers would have made sure they covered all bases.

I think Hird would be hoping for an out of court offer of settlement but I don't think the insurer will bite.

Best thing written critical of AFL and Essendrug.

Too true.

It's very sad for our game that most of the AFL football world has far too much sympathy for the players and would rather see them get off lightly or completely while the game itself falls into disrepute at their expense.

Throughout the world, it's understood that athletes are responsible for what they ingest into their bodies but in Australia that doesn't seem to apply so that while we might snigger at muscle bound Chinese women swimmers and cyclists on the gear, our boys and girls are clean as white, driven snow.

Yes, but they're nasty furriners and we're Aussies. What aren't you understanding about that?

Tim Lane. One of the very few to have a clear perspective on this debacle and to have  remained consistently so.

With Tim's article in mind, and the bombers hyperthetically winning consecutive flags (give or take a Brownlow and Norm Smith) in 2013,2014

is that what everyone wanted out there? We would be very poor excuses for a civilised society.

It's a bit rich for Hird to be talking about the booing of Adam Goodes when it was the supporters of his club, who, on the evening of May 17th 2014 booed umpire Troy Pannell as he was stretchered off (collected by Malceski) and also started booing Goodes following an incident with a Dons' player. Whilst Goodes had been copping criticism on social media for a while in the lead up to that game, as far as I'm aware it was the first time he was booed at a match.

The delusional one wants 2016 to be the 'year of facts'. Well for a start you let us all know what you sanctioned//authorised/encouraged/organised to be injected into the players.

That would be some facts we want to hear about. And he records, James, where are they?

Wow, he is simply living on another planet. I know lots of people that know him and/or who have met him. There isn't a kind word to be said by any of them about him or his wife,

And according to Gil the dill at a recent function, CAS is a lot more prepared than ASADA.....

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
