  1. This is so [censored] Demonland. - misquote. Tick - take misquoted quote out of context. Tick - take misquoted quote out of context and apply to a different context. Tick What he actually said was: "Fourth now is nothing to us." And the line before that was: "We loved every minute of [last year]. It was great but we start again absolutely from scratch," IOW, getting to fourth (i.e., in the last 4 in the finals) in 2018 counts for naught in 2019, that nothing is a given.

  2. More games lost at Selection by the Dees over the last 2 years than by Umpire mistakes.

  3. Quietly putting together a nice year and has been a bit of a revelation up forward this year. Already kicked 11 goals and is on track for 25-30 if all goes well. One of a handful of experienced players that has improved this year.

  4. Go DEES!! I'm up and about after seeing us play some good footy for the first time this season hopefully 9 day break is enough for the 3 concussed guys, especially Salem. GWS's midfield is probably the best in the comp and is on form. we will need to pressure and tackle and swarm them all day. and our fwd's need to stand up and kick straight! I'm taking my son for his first game on sunday. he is pumped. auskick in the morning and then off the the G ?

  7. Yes his 15 possessions and 3 goals 2 was utterly disgusting last week.

  8. Hunty has some party tricks he was involved in that handball when attacking the ball out wide to Marty that levelled the scores against GG and 10 seconds or so to go smashed into a pack ball got loose where Harmes kicked it forward to TMAC and the rest is history. A feel good story for Jayden for the way he has fought himself back into the side.

  9. I received an email for the MFC yesterday saying I can bring a friend for free on Sunday. They must think the numbers going are going to be low. Probably because we are playing GWS and our form is ordinary on our best days this year. No joke with this but I asked a friend if he wanted to go and he said " will you buy lunch and a few beers"? Hmm rapidly becoming an x friend.

  10. How can Spargo get a gig when he didn't play last week was dropped for poor form a fortnight or so ago and gives little.??

  11. He sounds happy and is enjoying it up forward. Hunt recovers his flare Being played out of the square gives us greater flexibility and unpredictability i50. Played tough 'aggro' footy in the last few weeks and was a key part of our last minute wins vs Hawks and GCS.

  12. Agreed. Whilst his skill set may not be silky, he importantly competes very well and at least can bring the long bombs i50 to ground. He won't het pushed out of the contest easily.

  14. Agree DV. Harmes is in career best form and is even heading Clarry right now. They will need to run someone with him. Stick Gus on Greene and try & run him back into some form or at least keep Greene reasonably quiet. Would be instructing Harmesy to go hell for leather attacking with a smidgen of defensive as required. Early days to be asking for a run with from Lockhart IMO. Just finding his feet and reasonable form.

  15. Players named on an extended bench are always listed in VFL teams. Harmes is on the bench for a Sunday AFL team. He's not playing in the twos. Fritsch on the other hand...

  17. Bit of a joke selection. Spargo, Lewis, and Weideman have done nothing to justify a recall and have been in poor form all season. If it is going to be wet like the forecast says, I would go small, Fritch, Stretch, Harmes, and Wagner.

  20. Magnificent site for footy on a nice day. Fish and chips on the Esplanade and a short walk to the ground. The site of ships sailing past the outer wing has to be seen to be appreciated.

  25. Apologies if this has been posted already or if we're not allowed to do so. This is one of the best speeches I've ever heard involving our club.

  26. Damien Barrett is often annoying but to his credit has always been solid on the need for consistency in umpiring and tribunal and that the first focus should be protecting the players. Even so, it was a mild surprise to see this on the afl website, part of his (often annoying) "If... Then" weekly article. Conveniently the clubs were in alphabetical order for this point...

  28. Giants' poor MCG record is at the forefront of their players' minds this week. They will win.

  29. He’s one of the most dangerous players on our list and is one of the few that has the key attribute we lack - pace! It’s great he’s past his back injuries that ruined his season last year. Now he’s fit, I’d play him every week. He’s proven capable forward and back, and could be good wingmen also IMO

  30. ...and even though they struggle at the 'G', we're not so great there ourselves. So I wouldn't bank that as being an advantage. GWS near full strength and us still lite makes for a tough one to win I would think ...but stranger things have happened.

  33. I might be wrong on this but my memory is that we had a pretty bad run with interrupted preseasons (TMac, Viney, hogan and others ?) and in season injuries (Gawn, Viney, Smith, VDB and others?) in 2017 and came with a late burst to almost sneak into the finals. Even last year we got Viney and AVB back near the end of the season and we looked pretty fit come finals time. The season is incredibly long and taxing the way the game is played now. The running the all team offence and defence systems demand has a huge impact on all players as does the ballistic nature of footy. Pies and cats are flying now but they might cop their injuries at the back end of the season, as might the Lions who have had a great run with injury. Just as we are coming good!

  34. I love the 'bring Preuss in' argument, but has anyone looked at the weather for Sunday? Is it a day for going in tall. I mean its 16C and rain. I feel as though its not really suited to a big man, such as Presuss. I feel if we pick him and we lose because we went too tall, we are going to hear from the 'lost it at the selection table' camp.

  36. Well Fun Police seems to be right up your alley...

  37. That is true. I see Preuss (in support of Gawn) strengthening our greatest asset: Gawn's rucking to feed Clarrie, Brayshaw, Jones and Harmes to feed the forward line. Without some respite, some shorter-term alternative roles for Gawn, he will wear out mid-match. Preuss has a dual role in this function. Firstly, to relieve Gawn of the huge responsibility to last as the key ruckman for a whole game, week in and week out, and secondly, to be a viable target deep forward and thus drawing key opposition defenders away from TMac, Smith, Hannan, Tracca, Garlett, Hunt, plus others when required. He could also be a protector of teammates, a shielding screen, and bring the ball to ground - he is a massive unit to get around, through or over. With the new '6' rule, it may be a legitimate possie for him between rucking tasks - and might also represent a marking and/or clearing role for Gawn down back in 'rest' periods.

  42. It was heartening seeing us return to the footy that made us great to watch last week. I'm not sure where that was for the first few rounds but it gives me hope that it's still there. Scoreboard pressure early is crucial, we were on top for the first 10min last week but failed to make it count, which ended up being the theme for the whole game. If Tom, Trac, and Jeffy can get on the board early, get their confidence up it could be what wins us the game. Just on Jeffy, did anyone else feel like there were more glimpses of his old self last week? Hitting the crumbs hard with pace, and looking to be creative, his finishing still isn't quite right but for the first time in a while he looked like a danger.

  43. I'm not quite sure where i stand on this game yet yeater. Much will depend on selection and how the three boys who were concussed come up. All three are important, for different reasons. We need ANBs run as GWS will 100% look to use the width of the G, though not as much as say the Hawks, Pies or WC. The they will look to use the corridor more but still we need runners to cover them. Smith gives at the contest and up forward and the player who can play as a defensive forward on Shaw. And personally i hope they don't pick Preuss and Smith gives us that option. And Salem is the most critical of those three as we simply can't afford not have by far our best kick not playing this game. I've gone off Lewis to be honest and i think he will play out the season at Casey once Lever is back but i wonder if he comes in for Friiter or Stretch (although Stretch isn't like for like). But they also might decide not to make any changes and back the 22 from last game. So i'll keep my power dry until the final teams are announced Friday night.
