I do not mind this at all. And to all the people whinging that they would rather Harry Boyd instead, just tell me exactly how that happens in a draft where it's a complete lottery. You are not even guaranteed that he'll be available at any of our selections and yet people are screaming they much prefer that then a free hit at this option What Tom Campbell brings is another senior mature and experienced body who'll provide some much needed leadership and guidance to our VFL team. He's a fantastic character who's one of the most hard working and dedicated guys going around with a team first attitude. An absolute workhorse. He's also a ripping fella who's done a lot for the AFL community in general. Talk about bringing in people to help shift the culture and standards, well Tommy will certainly help, especially with our younger players. Gawny isn't getting any younger, he'll need a decent chop out next year and part of me doesn't see him getting through the year again without injury. This is whether Campbell will be able to come in if need and play his role. He smashed it in the VFL this year and his numbers were elite so worse case is that he's making Casey a whole heap better.11 points

Bontempelli is 10x the player Daicos is. No doubt Daicos is a talent, but so many of his stats come after a teammate takes a mark, before he then sprints into space and receives an easy mark from that teammate’s short to medium pass.10 points

Would join Robbie Campbell as inspiring ruck recruits. The only ways this makes sense is if they believe Verrall will be ready in 2026, they have a better target in 2026 or there’s just no one in the state leagues of any quality. Either way, I’d again ask what the rush is if no one else wants him. Get the biggest and best 25 year old down for preseason training and if they aren’t up for it then sign Campbell.9 points

Hi. Haven’t posted here for a long time. But my family and I are die in the ditch dees. We are Perth people - I have been a member for 30 years and my son since he was born!!! Courtesy of a well known Demonland member ( she will know who she is and we are forever grateful) my wife and daughter were also able to experience the amazing 25/9/21 day. I am amazed at why anyone would try to take the gloss off this day. You can find tiny things about everything if you want perfection. But , gosh , just enjoy. It was the most amazing thing. We will have our day in Melb soon - but you don’t need to talk this down in the meantime. Just enjoy8 points

My band is playing in Canberra on the afternoon of GF Saturday from 3pm, so I’m going to miss watching it. The challenge for us is to avoid any contact with people who might be following it during our performance, so that we can all watch it later on in the evening (our pedal steel player lives close by in Sutton and has Kayo), as if it hadn’t already happened. Fortunately the venue, Smith’s Alternative, has no TV screens on the premises. (how to advertise your gig, without advertising your gig)7 points

Low risk, almost certainly low outlay, provides cover. The other point for mine is at the very least he helps keep Casey competitive - essential in terms of the development of younger players and keeping pressure on the AFL players. You can't learn to implement a game plan or even learn much at all if you're being knocked from pillar to post each weekend. No accident that Casey were strong from around 2018 > 2023. We've lost BB, Schache, Tomlinson and effectively Smith who were all Casey regulars, we need some decent talls with a bit of experience or our reserve team will fall off a cliff, which won't help anyone.6 points

Soldo’s better than Campbell, and is only leaving Port to get more game time. He isn’t coming here to sit behind Gawn. No one who can play regular game time as the number 1 ruck is coming here. We are in the market for ruckmen who are prepared to play VFL most of the year but be ready to play full games as the number 1 ruck if required. Darcy Fort is this player for Brisbane and is going to get to play in a GF this week as a result. Campbell’s not amazing at all and there may be better options ultimately available but he’s the sort of option we’re looking for.6 points

NO. 32 year old backup ruckman !!! We are sinking to new lows. And already been at 3 other clubs. Wow. Does the term “No” mean anything !! Prefer other younger VFL/WAFL/SANFL ruck options as backup. example. Harry Boyd!!! won the Magarey Medal in the SANFL this year playing in the ruck for Norwood. Let’s see … average 20.1 disposals, 10 clearances, 4.4 tackles and 41 hitouts per game. Guess what? He's originally from Victoria. FFS.6 points

Without major injuries in both years, especially late in the 2022 season, poor kicking for goal and a thug act, Goody might be a triple Premiership Coach. Who would be the master Coach then, given the benefits provided to the Geelong club by Government funding and its unique location and AFL advantage?6 points

As we stated in other threads on trade options, Dees must missed out on getting in the next wave of young mids. We started to address with Windsor (outside runner) and hope Throlstrup can be a half forward/mid like Rayner type. But we need to find good contested ball winners. Our recruiting from other clubs has been poor in the last 2 years. One name mentioned in our posts was Neil Erasmus. Well he was clearly best on ground in the WAFL GF yesterday. Starved for opportunity this year as Freo settled on their midfield of Serong, Young, Brayshaw. Agree that is 3 high quality mids. Rotation however seemed to involve Omeara and Fyfe when fit. Erasmus was a top-10 pick in the 2021 national draft. Yesterday he displayed his all around talent. 26 disposals. 11 tackles. 2 goals. (preliminary final 33 disposals, 8 tackles, 1 goal) . At 190 cms, he has the body size to compete and that short evasive burst. Quick hands for sharp inside play. His tackling was perhaps the highlight. After 23 games across 3 years, he has displayed talent but squeezed out. In 2024, four games where he was sub in 3 of them. At 21, he offers the Dees an immediate player who can play and energize the midfield with run and contested footy. He makes smart decisions and can lower his eyes to find targets inside 50. What would we offer ? What would Freo want? He is under contract for 2025. But he might want and ask for a change. Dees should be proactive. I think Freo will ask for a reasonable given he’s a former draft pick 10. The ANB pick is the best option. Likely pick “25” from the Crows. Perhaps it’s too much or Freo might think not enough. Perhaps other pick swaps could apply … grab Freo 3rd pick coming back to MFC as well. Freo might want to grab Hamish Davis as a local WA boy and they will bite on 25 !! Just a thought https://www.afl.com.au/video/1228133/wafl-showreel-gf-neil-erasmus-highlights?videoId=1228133&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=17269898290015 points

Chandler doesn't have the fitness. Though almost no-one has ANB's fitness and ability to run all day. Understand the criticisms of ANB's onfield shortcomings, but I think people are underestimating what he brings both onfield and off as a leader. Will be missed at a time when leadership is something we're crying out for post-Gus and given the Oliver/Trac/Smith issues. Thank god Melksham did enough to earn himself another year.5 points

You say that it is oversimplifying to think that the only thing that matters in assessing a coach is flags. Unbelievable! The amount of criticism that Goody has received on this forum, on the basis that with his unrivalled list (with which Fagan, Voss and others might disagree) he has only won one flag: sorry, but you can't have it both ways. His supporters, including me, think that he was given a promising list and a healthy administration and developed a team which since 2020 has been EXTREMELY competitive (with the exception of the last few matches this year with no Petracca, Oliver in a terrible state and Gawn with a broken leg). I don't know if we are the MOST successful team in the last five years but we are right up there. On that measure he can't be criticised.5 points

If you agree that Geelong as a club has advantages due to Geelong the city being regional and thus can attract athletes that want the geographical advantages that come with living there, then you can’t unthether that from any coaching record for whomever is coaching Geelong. its been 20 years since it was called ‘sleepy hollow’ pervasively in the media. Athletes want to live there and on the Bellarine and Surf Coasts I lived there then and now live on the Bellarine - generationally (compared to 1,2 and 3 decades ago) athletes want different things and live in quieter places due to the scrutiny placed in them daily/weekly. All in all, GFC has significant advantages compared to Melbourne based clubs when players start having families and want a different lifestyle that Melbourne clubs can’t offer. its their unique selling point and there is no coincidence that that is why the list profile of Geelong ("too old, too slow") is the way it is. *This does not at all take away from Chris and his coaching ability. What factor of advantage, the ability to attract and recruit a particular demographic, is worth considering and mulling over.5 points

Surely we’d be looking at a Harry Boyd type dominating at VFL who would want the chance to be on an AFL list? I know being back up to Max Gawn is a tough sell, but at least you’d be bringing in someone with upside who might still be around in a few years once Max retires4 points

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards. Hore, Bannan, Hanks and Zanker all kicked first quarter goals. McNamara, Goldrick, Hanks, Hore, and Chaplin were very busy as the Dees went into half time with a 14-point lead. Fremantle had to rearrange their forward structure as game-changer, Aine Tighe, innocuously hurt her knee and was taken out of the game. Potentially her third ACL injury. After halftime the Dockers really defended well led by pressures acts from Gaby O’Sullivan, Hayley Miller, and ruck Mim Strom and it was goal apiece during the third quarter. It was a thrilling final quarter with the game played almost exclusively in the Dockers half while our backs and midsdesperately defended. Kate Hore was thrown back as a spare and the indefatigable Eliza McNamara was everywhere. With 8 minutes left on the clock the Demons were still 3 goals up. Fremantle were piling on the pressure and the lead evaporated quickly following some defensive errors. With scores now level and three minutes remaining, the Dees fans yell ‘Blow the siren’. Into the last minute Hore errantly kicks out on the full. The ball comes straight back, and Kate tries to step past a Freo player, misses her kick and is pinged for holding the ball. The siren sounds and Aishling McCarthy kicks perfectly to win the match for Fremantle. For the Dees The injury curse continues for the Dees with promising cross-coder Grace Beasley doing her ACL at training during the week and Blaithin Mackin forced out of the game early with a calf injury. Former Geelong player, Denby Taylor, debuted promisingly with 6 disposals, a couple of bounces to show off her pace, and 3 tackles earning 2 free kicks. Eliza McNamara was outstanding, her best game in the Red and Blue. Goldie, Hanksy and Chappy were really solid on the day. Kate Hore tried hard to lift her team. Lily was quiet in her 75th game but showed her class as always. Eden Zanker, last year’s leading AFLW goalkicker, finally scored her first goal in 2024. Edo hurt her knee in the last quarter and hopefully is okay. It was always going to be a difficult assignment to win away with so many stars unavailable and young players still learning their craft. Moment of the match With scores level and Hayley Miller breaking past Chaplin streaming into goal, Gaby Colvin smashes into Miller just as she is about to kick a goal and earns a free. Sadly, it wasn’t to be a match saving act. Coaches and next week Melbourne Coach Mick Stinear was bitterly disappointed. His team came here to win and started well but the game slipped away in the second half. He was pleased his team won the contest, but they failed to find meaningful connections with the breeze in the third quarter. He singled out Lize McNamara who had an outstanding game, shouldering a high workload when Blaithin Mackin was ruled out early in the match. To win, he needs an equal contribution across the ground. Fremantle coach Lisa Webb says her team had belief coming home with the breeze in the final quarter. She praised Gaby O’Sullivan who brought tremendous pressure and Aisling McCarthy who kicked the winning goal. The Demons head to Windy Hill next Friday to take on the Bombers. With both teams sitting in the bottom eight of the ladder, it will be an important win for one of the teams. Go Dees! With the mounting injuries, how will the Demons field a full squad this week without replacements? I’m new here after perusing for 18 years, but I gotta be honest... Couldn’t believe the amount of support for the smug pr!cks that is Brisbane. I detest Geelong, but at least if they make the GF, the likes of Dangerfield have already won one, so it lessens the disdain. Hopefully Sydney wins and keep the likes of Zorko, Hipwood, Andrews, McCluggage, Answerth and Neale premiership-less. Far too many unlikeable players in spite of apart of me would be happy for Fagan.4 points

I'd be rapt for fagan to win a premiership, but if sydney won then they'd deserve it, been the best team all year.4 points

I am not saying Scott isn’t a very good Coach, but rather he has had advantages that other Coaches haven’t. The Cats are nearly guaranteed 8-9 wins every year because of their unique home ground advantage and who they play there and then only need to win another 3-4 games each season to make finals. That is a huge advantage for starters. Their location has assisted their recruiting as well. The endless stream of Victorian tax dollars given to them hasn’t hurt either.4 points
