I think I heard Goody say Woeys corky wouldn't be risked on the long flight to Perth but they were hoping he'd get up for a game in the VFL. Makes sense.13 points

He was unbelievable all game. Absolute gun. That was easily one of the most enjoyable Non-MFC games I’ve seen in ages. I’d say I was a “neutral” supporter but that would be a lie. I turn in to such a spiteful bugger when Essendon are involved.12 points

I recall an interview a few years ago where TMac said he'd like to play until he was 35. That was before his most recent foot injuries. In a couple of interviews this year he's stated that he's treating 2024 as his last year and he was determined to enjoy it, whether he was playing at AFL or VFL level. I think he's surprised himself and the club with his form this year. If his body holds up for the remainder of the season, I doubt it would take much to convince him to go around again12 points

We got pilloried for going out in straight sets in 2022. But unlike the gangrenous Pies, we at least made the finals the year after winning a flag, finishing inside the top 4. Will the Pies cop the same treatment from the media for their pathetic effort as the reigning premier?10 points

Less arrogant and entitled 100 point loss coming up in the lead up to finals, it will be the dress rehearsal for the 100 point loss in the elimination final Most fraudelent top 4 team in the history of the world. The traditional post-bye tumble is in full effect… this carnt of a club deserves to remain in the mediocrity it has endured for the last 20 years. Every couple of years a false dawn, before we revert back to despair. ■■■■ this club and all who walk through its halls. Except Caldwell, Merrett and Durham sam draper is a huge problem. we have no other rucks. just let that sink in, we are literally stuck with sam draper as our main ruckman. ■■■■ me. and jake stringer, he is ■■■■■■■ absolutely cooked. I wish we were North Melbourne, they’re so far in front of us!! I reckon at least 80% of all counselling patients in Australia would be Essendon supporters. The other 20% are probably married to one.7 points

No matter how good a player is or isn't, my favourite feature will always be the strength of character it takes to grow and change. Pickett's growing maturity and game sense, Melksham's late-career 'patron saint of goal assists' shift, Tom McDonald's switch forward, then back, and finally the transition to having sheer calmness be his leading trait, and even Kade Chandler's relentless efforts to claw away and overcome his weaknesses. Looking a little further back, there's the excellent effort Nathan Jones went to, dropping weight and adding agility to extend his career and make himself a bit more versatile after a decade digging to the bottom of packs. But maybe Viney did the hardest thing - never mind overcoming rubbish injury runs - when he rebounded from being dropped from the co-captaincy by consciously adapting the way he interacted with and led his teammates. When you're as good as Viney is, and part of club nobility, it takes good character to be humble. Also, it is difficult to describe his literal and figurative hardness without resorting to memes. Touch wood we can see him play 300. There's no evident reason why not.7 points

Are pies putting up one of the weakest premiership defence seasons? Media had a crack at us for following up our grand final with a failure to win a finals game, yet we finished top 4 in consecutive home and away seasons while Geelong and Pies won't even qualify for finals the year after their flags.6 points

My take is that the competition is broken, not just Casey. The best players not on AFL lists aren't playing at VFL, they are playing suburban league where there is a match every week, they get paid, and their teams care about winning a flag. The VFL level comp doesn't have the elite fitness to execute AFL standard game plans and pressure.5 points

Given the amount of youth that we are playing at the moment, the senior players out or underperforming, I was thinking how lucky we are to have Jack Viney in the side. Yes, he had a better season last year with Trac and Oliver firing, but he has really been incredible this season with his leadership and continued efforts. As a very social person, I was re-watching the Brisbane game and he was absolutely incredible in it. We are super lucky to have him.5 points

The view from the periscope suggested Kynan Brown, Marty Hore, Will Verrall, Blake Howes and Shane McAdam were the better AFL listed contributors. Mitch White, Tyler Edwards, Mitch Szybkowski, Roan Steele and Jack Bell off the Casey list.5 points

What's better than watching the bombers get rolled? Getting $3.10 for a crows win.5 points
-
Gee the bombers look as wobbly as all. Let's face it they are on a run of 13 games out of 14 to be played in Melbourne. From round 9 to 23 they play at Marvel or Mcg with the one exception of people stadium against the Suns which they lost . Afl have moved everything to try and get this mob to play finals. A joke of a fixture. Talk about a.......FIX ture.5 points

Couldn’t agree more. His contribution to that flag is criminally underrated by most. Set the tone early by smashing Macrae. Then was involved in all the bang goals. Everyone goes on about Jackson but you’ll see Viney was the extractor.5 points

Given Melbournes own head of football rates the chances of Oliver being traded at zero and Oliver is contracted, i really don't think Geelong coming and offering us pick 16 is going to be all that tempting for us. Clarry is going to be fine, he's got all the support in the world around him and with a full pre season he'll be back to his best and anyone suggesting we trade him for unders or worse, pay someone to take him off us will be enjoying Humble pie.5 points
-
In the Oliver scenario, 'journalists' like Morris or McClure call around the other clubs and ask them if they would be interested in him if he was available. Clubs would then respond with something generic like "we have a lot of players on our radar", or "we're all about making our list better" just like the example a few posts back. Morris/McClure then say things like "there is significant interest from other clubs" even though that interest is simply the answers they have received to their own questions, and not actual things that have happened like approaches from one club to another, or an indication from the club with the player that they actually want to trade him. That's all the smoke is, and they create it themselves.5 points

There are no “best of times” for that team. Only “worst of times”. Did I just hear Brad Scott say, “ it is better to lose in one’s own way, than to win in somebody else’s”?5 points

Of course clubs are keen. They know what he’s capable of and they’d be hoping to get him “cheaper” than they previously could have.5 points

■■■■ club. ■■■■ list. Senior players with lack of skill and composure. Mental minnows. And we come back for more every year. It’s like it’s scripted. I can’t believe people defense this rabble and particularly the list manager. He should be nowhere near the place. The only Dodo that continues to survive the extinction he deserves.4 points

What always gets me is the idea that Clarry not being at his best is a reason to trade him. Makes no sense! So much more value in helping him get back to his best. Pre seasons are everything in footy, ask any player - bad preseason? Bad year. This legend will be back at his best next year if not earlier - he's building beautifully.4 points
