...yet again. Informative, open, entertaining, and positive on a lot of matters we here tend to be so negative about. Among many, particularly loved his '5 more years' line 😊 More of this, Max!16 points

Tell the pies tragic that that may be the story the pies are leaking out to the nuffies. But the real reason they picked the Thursday night (which i think is true actually) is they know they are going to get beaten and are desperate to get as much time as possible between the loss and the semi final against the blues - which will surely be Friday week.15 points

Murphy is super important to their system i reckon. The Pies have a similar advantage as us over the rest of the comp. Most teams have only one elite intercept defender - but we have two in May and Lever, and Petty too when he was down back. I'm sure a big factor in Disco getting selected (and i think he'll hold his spot) is he is also an excellent interceptor. Which means that teams can't focus on shutting down the one elite intercepting defender the way they can with say Andrews at the Lions or Allir at Port. The Pies have three elite intercepting defenders - Moore, Murphy and Quaynor. Intercept in the back half is critical to our game plan, but i'd argue event more important for the Pies as their whole game plan is based on fast transition from the back half, and that method is reliant on intercepts. Moore is coming back from a hammy, so at the very least he would have been off legs for a bit so his running power might be off. If Quaynor plays on Koz, as he has done the last couple of times we've played them, Koz might play out of the square as he did last week, which negates the impact of any intercepts by Quaynor (becuase they are not up on the half back flank). Which means Murphy becomes even more important to them. Fingers crossed he is a non starter.14 points

If true then they also denied themselves an extra day for Darcy Moore's hamstring (and possibly Nick Daicos' knee) to heal.14 points

Not just the Dees who are blessed to have Max, the AFL should be on their knees thanking him for being so different to the banal, controversy stoking rubbish the footy media generally trot out. He’s a champ, he knows it, but also that his footy and his club is paramount.11 points

genuinely can't believe we have three players of the quality of petracca, oliver, and gawn in our side at the same time... ...let alone adding may, lever, salem, rivers, brayshaw, viney, and pickett to those three...10 points

i think having georgia campbell relieve lauren pearce instead of tayla harris having to do so is going to make us such a damaging side9 points

Harmsey has had an up and down season and yes, with the current team set up, he probably is aware that he’s only an outside chance of fighting his way back into the side for the finals. So what better way to do so than by taking responsibility and showing his best form for Casey tomorrow? I wish him good luck!9 points

I'm going with my daughter. The first time we have gone to a footy match together for over 10 years. She hasn't been to an AFLW game and has no interest in the AFL. Interestingly though she really got into the Women's work cup and went to the fans sites multiple times. Is going to join Melb city women's team as a member such is her new found enthusiasm for soccer. I say interestingly because when i asked if she wanted to come with me to watch the dees AFLW game tomorrow night i was really surprised when she said yes, and is really keen. I couldn't get her to a game, men's or women's, last season and i have no doubt the experience of being at AAMI park to watch the Matildas is why she is keen to go to a footy match.8 points

What a game from Heath. Her job on Davey changed the game. Mackin, McNamara, Hore and Hanks superb. Campbell was impressive for a second gamer. I'd say no change for next week. Go Dees it's going to take something drastically wrong for us not to win the premiership this year.7 points

Played golf today with a Pies insider. If Murphy plays he’ll be far from fit. Struggled to train last night. Glut issue. Will play on Fritta if he gets through training on Sunday.7 points

We'd better, unless King has gotten into the AFL's ear about extra advantages for the ladder leaders.7 points

I wonder if they will ever get microphones for the journos asking the questions? I guess it must be on the same "to do" list as cameras for the score reviews. Brilliant thinking mans captain.7 points

Such a well spoken leader without the BS and the cliches. Just love to listen to him. How lucky we are to call him our captain!7 points

May this game mirror our men’s game on Thursday. Relentless pressure, sexy ball use inside 50, domination of the Pies.6 points

Partial tears do exist, but they’re never reconstructed. The policy is play on until or if it ruptures fully. A ‘good’ ACL is uncomplicated by other concomitant injury - no meniscal (cartilage) damage, no (or minimal) medial ligament tear, no joint surface damage or bone surface fracture. A straightforward rehab at Jake’s career point would see him in full match play at 9 months post-surgery. 12 months is the recent preferred time only to avoid general joint irritability. At 9 months, the graft is fully consolidated into the bone and fully revascularised (has a blood supply).6 points

The following Demons players are out of the Casey side to play the Bulldogs on Saturday given that there is only 5 days from the Casey Final until the Dees Final on Thursday. OUT: L. Dunstan (knee), B. Grundy, J. Jordon, T. McDonald, J. Schache, C. Spargo, T. Woewodin (AFL)6 points

Max is such an impressive leader. To take responsibility in the Grawndy saga while Brodie has coped so much over it shows how he does not place himself above others within the club.6 points

Honestly I would be very disappointed if he’s meeting clubs already when our season is far from over. Can’t believe our club would tell him he’s done, because any slight injury to Max could see him play finals, hell even a Grand Final. Needs to focus on that rather than looking for the nearest exit.5 points

Just watched it on Utube, great interview and great mindset, I love the way Tracc is so honest and doesn’t mind going deep with the answers, very honest, he lives for these finals games and yes we are indeed fortunate to have Christian Petracca playing for us. Thank goodness the Saints didn’t take him Pick 1.!!!!5 points

I'm really reluctant to go in with the Gawn/Grundy combo after the results of last 4 games (1-3) that they've played together. However, if you cast your mind back to our pre mid season bye rounds, the combo wasn't a complete disaster in a few of the games. Round 1 V Dogs - Gawn got 5 coaches votes, Grundy had 17 touches and a goal as they easily defeated this year's All Aust ruck. The combo was at its best on opening night. Round 7 V North - Grundy had a very impressive 18 touches and 2 goals. Round 8 V GC - the combo kicked 4 between them. Gawn got 3 coaches votes. Round 11 V Freo - Gawn got 2 coaches votes. Grundy had a solid 19 possession 1 goal game. Bad loss though. Round 13 V Collingwood - Gawn got 2 coaches votes and Grundy kicked a clutch 3rd qtr goal to put us in front for good. So there has been a smattering of games where the combo has worked to an extent. However the most recent 4 games were terrible for the combo, but 3 of those games were wet weather footy which we lost. Name me a ruckman in the comp that is flawless in wet weather. The one game we won was under the roof V St Kilda, but Marshall was near BOG and the writing was on the wall for Grundy. You'd imagine Goodwin will adopt recency bias and not play Grundy5 points

Good observation as we do have a skewed age profile. That and our long term contracts, there is a risk that in 4/5 years we are the Geelong equivalent of 'Dad's Army' in recent years. But I am confident that JT, TL et al will keep refreshing out list as and when needed to ensure the age profile doesn't impact our performance5 points

Indeed. I found it amusing that he said that he had "been prepped" for the interview!! The other captain I really like is Darcy Moore. The antithesis of a filth person.4 points

In the recent interview, Max referred to 'Melksham's return' so a good chance he gets a new contract. 🙂. He could be back at next year's mid season bye, in about 10 months.4 points

@Engorged Onion love your post and agree with the sentiments. My knock on Schache is not that he does not have Aggression/Hunger etc, but two fold from watching his games for us, I have seen hesitation to commit to an action and to my eye at least, does not maintain the fwd 50 defensive structures, I think he is easy to play off/through. This used to be my complaint about Melksham and why I was floored when he came back into the team and absolutely played his role, it was a stunning transformation. I know Schache has the technical skills, but the hesitation in a high octane game plan is a killer. By way of example, I don’t think McVee comes across as aggressive but his sense of timing and ability to act instantly either creates time for us or shuts down an opponents options. But lastly, if he has been given another year, I have every reason to trust the match committee. I just worry that we have to have a minimum turnover and I’m not sure who goes, and i think all of the kids have looked promising.4 points

Meanwhile take the Alice Springs game out and our average for the other 10 games was 48,786, above Essendon and just shy of Richmond.4 points

Round 7 1987 http://www.demonwiki.org/Round+7+1987 quote "the Collingwood full-forward lost the plot and found himself reported". According to demonwiki there was a rematch later in the season (round 20), where Taylor was again reported. Demons won the stoush and recorded their biggest win at Victoria Park. Great days with Swooper at the helm.4 points

I don’t agree that Disco looked “ out of touch”. In fact ,I thought he did remarkably well for a guy coming back from injury, and only in his third game. He did look as if he might have sustained a minor injury v. the Swans, though.4 points
