I’m super stoked with this. I think it takes serious guts, in the face of losing a potentially once in a generation ruckman to go “y’know what would really complement the best ruckman in the competition? The second best ruckman in the competition.” Obviously Gawn and Grundy have bought in to whatever the vision for this setup is too. Goody, Richo, Lamb and co are either going to go down as visionaries or madmen for this. I’m on board for the former.26 points

I won’t know how I feel about this until Brodie’s mum makes her statement via Facebook.22 points

Each to their own I suppose. Four years after moving from Melbourne to Perth I received an offer that would have brought me back to Melbourne. Why didn’t I take it? My mums in Melbourne.16 points

“Luke Jackson’s decision making process” is not exactly on the top of the list of things I want to read about. I imagine it involves Lego figures, crayons and lots of confused frowning.13 points

Having played with Schache as a teenager, I thought this bloke was going to be phenomenal when he made the AFL, obviously that hasn’t panned out the way anyone would’ve liked it to. But I still see his talent and potential for growth as a professional, so I don’t think it’s worth poo pooing the idea of bringing him in. After all, it’s a depth acquisition for a future third or fourth most likely so If he comes in and performs better than a Mitch Brown type - that’s a win to me. Heck even if he comes in purely to keep all of TMac, BBB & JVR on their toes, good. It’s a low risk move with a chance of giving him some success after being a highly touted prospect12 points

This move is destined for disaster for Melbourne according to the highly educated Filth supporter who just called 3AW sports today, stating Grundy will be competing for his position with Jim Stynes. He went on to repeat this a further two times…12 points

Saw an angry Collingwood fan call him a 'trader' for leaving - enjoyed that one12 points

Here is my alternative strategy for pick 13: we are not going to get into the elite end of the draft this year (top 5 or so) and the next batch is "throw a blanket over" material. 2023 draft is looking very strong we have lots of young talent at Casey that needs an opportunity (Turner, Bowey, JJ, Howes, JVR, Chandler all missed R23). We need to give them an opportunity and show them a career path or we will lose them as we have Bedford. we need to position ourselves so we can access some really elite talent, not just good talent. To this end I'd look at trading 13 for a future 1st which teams that are rebuilding might find attractive. We might get something in return like a pick in the 30's. Draft in Grundy, promote Chandler and draft a couple in the 30's or 40's. That leaves us with 3 first rounders next year plus your future 1st for 2024. We also have 2 seconds in 2024. We would then be in a fantastic position in a very good draft to trade up higher to get some really elite talent or trade in a very good player. I think we have enough good core talent both in the team and at Casey to take this approach. I don't think we need to add good but not elite talent this year. If we are to contend well into the future we need access to either the really pointy end of the draft or enough collateral to satisfy a really elite talent trade. Fans would scream but I think it's a great idea. So, there you go, pull it apart.12 points

Jackson deciding in the middle of the year explains Goodwin's comment around that time that the club had said no pressure to decide, just give us your best football for the rest of the season. That comment now looks like the club was concerned he would tune out. It is hard to say whether he did or didn't but it wasn't a good season from him. I'm indifferent to him leaving. He is now just another bogan.12 points

Well done to @goodwindeeswho was actually the very first that mentioned this rumour completely out of the blue on here.11 points

I'm not 100% sure Max has thought this through fully. He's gone from rucking against Brodie twice a year to rucking against him at every training session.11 points

And you know that how? The report of the trade mentions that Port Adelaide, GWS and Geelong were all interested but that Grundy dismissed each as he didn't want to leave Melbourne.10 points

At least the club recognised that Grundy was a salary dump, unlike some on here who were happy to give up a 1st rounder. Well done to Tim Lamb for not giving up anymore than pick 27. But the question is how much of Grundy's contract we are paying.10 points

Schache kicked 27 goals in his last 7 VFL games including bags of 7,7 and 5. As a last spot low cost cover who could fill multiple roles if required I have heard worse ideas if Weid is traded out.9 points

I wasn’t happy with how he or his manager handled themselves and the last 24 hours have not changed my mind. The only reason more supporters aren’t angry about this charade is because we won a flag last year with Jackson playing a big part. But guess what, we would have won it even without him. Would he have been a RS, a premiership player or gotten a $7,000,000 contract without Melbourne? No he wouldn’t have. Seems ungrateful. Don’t wish him ill of course, but don’t wish him luck either. The grass isn’t always greener Jackson. Enjoy the WA bubble. You’ll sure as hell want to perform now!9 points

We are a club known to get what it wants done, and not sweat small distractions like what ‘value’ we are supposed to get on individual deals. Like the flag winning defence that ‘we paid too much for’…9 points

We chose to play Brown on one leg and Melksham as a second tall in two finals instead of Weid. In fact we were willing days before our last final to debut JVR if Gawn missed rather than play Weid as a forward/ruck. This should show you how much we rate Weid. This talk about needing him as a back up, we just did and did not use him. Let Weid have a. Another crack at it elsewhere and clear the space,9 points

Remember at draft camp 2012 when he told Mark Neeld and our recruiting team that we were so [censored] he doesn't want us to pick him.. How times changed. Welcome Brodie! Reckon there was a period there where I genuinely thought he was going to be the next Dean Cox and his career was on the incline towards that. I reckon the contract will be a huge burden off his shoulders and he'll want to prove his worth. Anyone know about his current injury concern? And yes, well done Tim Lamb for actually standing firm.. so worried we were going to trade down to pick 16 but happy we just stood our ground. We had too.8 points

In: Grundy + 13 + Freo F1 + Freo F2 Out: Jackson + 27 +44 + 67 Time will tell ultimately but on balance i think we've done fine Just need to sort the back-up ruck spot and we're done8 points

If you want to see what real class is, have a look at Jayden Hunt's Instagram. A player we essentially didn't try too hard to keep, being gracious and thankful, versus a player we spent pick 3 on, who won a flag with us, and who ran home at the first chance he got.8 points

I thought Gunston was a certainty to come to us as FA? Or did GNF mean this fellow:8 points

Yep. After hearing his press conference I'm pretty dirty on him especially after being one of his big supporters on here against people who were having a crack. The fact that he made his decision up so quickly at the mid year break leaves me with an incredibly sour taste in my mouth. On top of getting reamed on the trade deal it's certainly a real bitter feeling. I wish him zero success with Freo.8 points

I'm in the camp for Oliver Hollands at this pick. Outside mid with pace and good kicking. Could make the opposite wing to Lingers his own. Cal Twomey has him going at 12 in his latest phantom draft, so he should be around the mark. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.afl.com.au/news/852288/cal-twomeys-phantom-form-guide-top-draft-prospects-september-ranking/amp8 points

I had zero problems getting to Perth both times we played them this season nor have I had any problems getting anywhere around Australia or internationally since the borders reopened. Just be honest Luke. You're looking like a bigger [censored] every time you open your mouth. The Premiership medallion offers you protection from criticism but just don't stray too far into Scully territory.7 points

He played the second ruck well this year. He’s more suited to that than as a sole forward.7 points

So... Met directly with Freo mid year in-contract with MFC ❌ Said later in the year he hadn't thought too much about a new contract and was focused on footy ❌ Once Dogga indicated he was returning to WA was open to either club ❌ MFC said during trade time the Dogga hadn't indicated which club ❌ Honestly, what a dumb [censored] Dogga is. Surely his manager would've told him emphatically to not say anything too revealing, just thank MFC and the fans, say he's happy to be home and that he looks forward to playing footy next year. Amongst the most stupid things he could've said was that he met with Freo mid year and decided then that he was leaving to go there7 points
