  1. Who ever we get make sure he is a bloody Victorian.

  2. If we gave up a top 10 pick up for Grundy I would take a Big Ben Brown style run up and kick Tim Lamb in the bollocks……….really, really hard.

  4. Could not agree less. He turned the 2021 GF on its head in that third quarter and we will be compensated for the trade. In no way a stuff up.

  6. If we managed to stooge two top 10 picks then gave up one for Grundy I’d just about cry.

  7. Regardless of the revisionist responses as to how ordinary a player he is, it is a sad day for the club: he seemed like a great bloke, who undoubtably has a good career ahead of him. Just not with us! Looking forward to see what gold JT and Lamby are going to produce with the spoils.

  8. Just because I don’t wish Jackson well in his career, doesn’t mean I don’t wish him well in his personal life, or appreciate what he did for us while in red and blue. As a supporter I have every right to feel disappointed and pass judgement on what I feel is a poor career move, which I also feel is a soft decision in what is a short career (compared to most careers anyway). I will be delighted if he stayed, but I think the circus around his decision was a major distraction this year and I’m really disappointed that he wasn’t clear on his intention last year when we had Cerra wanting to come to us! Now we will likely get screwed over as Freo don’t have a great trade hand and they’ve signed most of their best players. Edit: please don’t compare Jackson to Lever. Adelaide was a dumpster fire post camp. Lever had a serious partner (now wife and mother of his children), and obviously had intentions to raise his kids near family. Jackson is leaving the reigning premiers, and is 20 without a partner or kids to consider. The two situations are completely different.

  9. I get the immense disappointment. We had him for three years and he helped win us a premiership. Other young gun trades have been worse eg Rankine pick 3 goes home after a few years without making a mark at GCS. Boyd after one year at GWS goes to the Bulldogs and virtually won them a flag. Sadly for him and other potential young guns incl HW$NBN their career collapsed for one reason or another. They carry such a burden of expectation with the $ and the hype and I'm not sure any of them realised what they were getting into when deciding to go home or get big $.. I genuinely hope that wherever Jackson goes his career potential is fulfilled. I respect him for not having said a word publicly. He let the media hype swirl around. Could not have been easy to be unaffected by it. I'm disappointed to lose him but if he is always pining to be elsewhere then its ok to go and I'm excited about the multiple players we will get in return via trade or draft. Our list needs a refresh and this might be our best chance for that in the next 4-5 years.

  10. Dees surely must demand no less than; Freo - Young and Pick 13 West Coast - Pick 2 and 20

  11. Obviously I don't know what personal factors might be part of his decision, but on the face of it it seems a strange choice by Jackson if you ask me. To add to your point about the fish bowl he is about to jump into, Jackson is going to have to make one of the longest internal national flights in the world every second week ie Perth to the east coast. Five hour round trip in a plane would be hard core for a player his size. I remember hearing pavlich say that was the toughest part of his career (amazing he played 300 plus games). Surely the smart play was a two year contract, eek out whatever success he could at the dees, learn the craft under maxy, and then head home if still keen.

  12. Sad day, I really hope we can cover the 2 marks and 0 goals that Jackson contributed in this year's final series.

  14. Jon Ralph has revealed our "mega asking price" in the Heraldsun: "Melbourne will begin negotiations over a trade for Luke Jackson demanding the king-sized ransom of two top-10 selections and with Fremantle the overwhelming favourite to secure his services."

  15. Pies can have our pick 34 for Grundy. He’s not worth anything more than that IMHO.

  17. His mother’s comments only further solidify my thinking that Jackson is not making the decisions, his family is. It annoys me no end that this was clearly always on the cards for Jackson and yet we missed out on Cerra last year when Freo had a much better trade position. WA is a fishbowl. Very few go back on giant contracts and with big expectations and succeed. Kelly. Hogan. The list goes on and on.

  18. His upside is crazy. We’ve all seen glimpses and he’s still 20, and carrying an injury,l. I have no doubt LJ at 25 plus will be an out and out star of the comp… and we will prob learn to hate him. But in the short term We’re in a plum window. He’s not critical to us fr the next 3 years. After that it will be what it is anyway. We won a flag with him and ( despite that I might also have to hate him in time ) I will always love the guy fr that. He was part of our bang bang bang story . A truly ecstatic experience. He’s looked after the club in the way he’s leaving too and seems like a genuinely good fella. Wish u well luke. Now let’s get THE best deal done w this we can.

  19. My favourite “learnings” reference https://www.titusoreily.com/afl/the-monday-knee-jerk-reaction-afl-finals-week-two2022 “Simon Goodwin has talked a lot about learnings this year, but a key learning had not been learnt, that his forward like works about as well as the Covid Safe app.”

  21. Pick 2 is a far greater risk than Jackson. There has to be more than pick 2 coming back. Pick 2 could be a gun or a dud, nobody knows. Jackson is already a very good player, a premiership player and a Rising Star winner and is 21. We absolutely should demand more than pick 2 from West Coast for him.

  22. Personally, I think any player or coach who has helped me have a sliver of sporting joy in my life by winning a premiership can do whatever the [censored] they want without any grievance...

  23. Interesting. How do you feel about Lever ? I'm sure you loved that he came to us. And what do you know about Luke's situation. Nothing I imagine. Supporters get way too caught up in emotionality about an individual they know nothing about.
    10 points
  24. And so we should. He’s not even 21 and he’s already a premiership player and rising star winner. We invested heavily in him and did all the early work to develop him under the best ruckman in the game. If you think he’s worth the same wage as Max Gawn is earning then he’s also worth two top 10 picks.

  25. Our club has shown over the last 6-8 years an ability to draft and trade in the right players and I have full faith that they will make the right decision on Grundy. If the bloke is fit, he is gun and will offer so much around the ball.

  26. I wonder if MFC has set its sights on Cadman in the way that DL has? DL logic: We need a tall fwd + Cadman is a tall fwd = Lets get Cadman. I know nothing about Cadman and don't doubt his worth but maybe the Club has other priorities. Just saying. So I have an open mind on how we might use the draft picks we get for Jackson eg we may prefer two picks in the 9-12 range than pick 2 or pick 3.

  29. This 'Blicavs' comment is underselling how good he (Blicavs) is. He's been AA in 3 different positions. It also confirms that the industry doesn't think Jacko is a ruckman long term nor a forward

  30. All I can say is, I’m extremely disappointed in Jackson. We gave him the world, including a Rising Star, the best mentor in the game, oh yeah and a Flag! Some will say nobody can resist the money, but I believe he would be getting very well paid no matter where he goes. Some will say the pull of family is too strong, but ffs he’s a 4 hour flight away from mum and dad. He’s 20 and has a whole life living next to family ahead of him. Choosing to leave is a poor decision that reeks of no mental fortitude or gratitude for what he has received from our club. No support from me and I won’t wish him well.

  34. If only we stuffed up like that all the time, we would have a few more flags! 😉

  35. Really? Incredible. He helped us win a flag. Can’t ask more than that. The boy wants to go home, his family want him home. And life in AFL can be very short with high risk of injury influencing trade worth and long term remuneration. Sorry to see him go because he has the potential to be a champ but understand and accept his decision. Most people would make the same decision.

  39. I've been meaning to do this for a while. AFL.com has GPS data on teams, including total distance covered, high speed distance, and number of sprints. High speed distance is probably the best indicator of fitness. I have plotted them all for 2021 and 2022. I can't see any strong trends to support loading as a factor in our poorer performances mid year, either last year or this year, especially not with high speed running. Last year we averaged 39.4km a game of high speed running and maintained that average throughout the whole season. In the loading period of rounds 11-18 our output did not really change at all. This year we averaged 37.8km a game, but averaged 40.2km per game in rounds 1-10, fell off a cliff for 3 weeks (maybe loading), bounced back and then declined pretty much every week all he way through to last Friday night.

  43. I also want to add that I think as a club we’ve handled the situation extremely respectfully. We had every right to demand answers and put public pressure on Jackson. We invested heavily in him and have never done anything other than help his career. In fact he was getting ruck time ahead of the best ruckman in the game right up until the end of the season. I am proud of how we’ve handled the situation and I hope Jackson appreciates it and repays the favour by agreeing to go to whichever WA club can strike the best deal, without the threat of the PSD and without demanding he only go to Freo. Home is WA. Home is not the Fremantle Football Club. If he nominates Freo, it’ll prove to me that this move is about much more than simple home sickness.

  44. For fans it’s emotional but for players and clubs it’s business. Dogga wants to change employer. Reckon we’ve all done that in the past. He’s conducted himself properly this year and it seems by nominating WA rather than just freo that he wants to do the right thing by us. That’s fair enough and as much as we’re entitled to from him I reckon. let’s get the best deal we can and move on

  46. Gee some people have short memories. After R10, the talk was Gawn/Jackson was one of the best 2 man ruck combo’s the game has ever seen. He has played some dominant games this year, some games where he was a perfect compliment for Gawn, and sure a couple of shockers in the past 1-2 months. Jacko hurt his knee R15, and word is he has largely been playing injured since. Plus it’s not overly surprising that his attitude may slip given the trade situation. He will be a star of the comp, there is very little doubt about this. No point talking him down, just because he has decided to leave. Reminds me of some mates venting about their ex-wives after they left.

  47. I’d take Pick 2 for him. Partly because a player at that number in the draft is going to be good, potentially great, but also because that means he’s going to the Eagles and Freo have gutted their list for nothing 🤣

  48. I'm sure Jackson made up his mind half way through the season and the club was well aware of it, hence their meetings with Grundy, and I'm sure Freo and Melbourne have been talking trades for months such is the magnitude of this up coming trade. Had Jackson confirmed his intentions in the second half of the season but pledged 100% commitment to the MFC in his final games for the club, he may have had some clear air and been able to play a finals series that consisted of more than two marks. He may have avoided going from premiership hero to a heavily criticised player in the space of 12 months. Hopefully the AFL can become more mature in this space, where players can feel more comfortable in signaling their intentions prior to the season ending. The player and current club will benefit from this IMO.
