Agree monoccular. How about investigating something worthwhile: Oppo players holding and blocking Max 100 yards off the ball, Footscray throwing the ball for the last seven years, Horethorn's draft tampering in 2005/6 that delivered four flags, Carltank's brown paper bag dealings of the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s, Matthews knocking-out Giles, Ellingworth and Steven Smith off the ball in the 70s and 80s, Everything Essendrugs did and said during the Sheedy years, Noel Gordon's back-dooring of Fitzroy, How Franklin made it to South Melbourne at the 11th hour after all but being signed, sealed and delivered to Greater Waste of Resources, How McGuire was allowed to talk shiiiiiiiiit non-stop and uninterrupted for the last 25 years, and Every decision made by Ross Oakley.11 points

Of all the people Ess could have chosen as the 'hero' for the night they chose Hird. Tim Watson, Wanganeen and Bomber have had more success. And Bombers' misdemeanours were in his personnel life not the club. Hird brought the club to its knees and now he is their 'hero' A big Ess effort afoot to PR Hird back into favour. As if that will heal all that is sick at that club. They need a complete clean out of players, staff and board members who were there for the drug saga, just as we did (with a few exceptions) to purge the memory of '186' and what followed. Instead they revert back to their painful history. That they chose Hird shows how misguided they still are. Long may they wallow in the purgatory of their own making.11 points

100% I take medication to manage my mental health problem every day. Alongside lifestyle changes it’s made me a completely different person, and significantly happier, and healthier. Trust me - if you’ve truly experienced mental health problems you’re not going to take drugs that will completely mess with your psychological health. If he takes mental health meds then it’s the definition of insanity to mix them with street drugs. The blanket labelling of a host of behavioural issues under the guise of ‘mental health’ is an insult to all of us, and the fact we aren’t allowed to publicly call it out for what it is means that it will continue to be a problem. THIS is what journalism is supposed to be about. Uncovering the truth, not about a specific individual, but about a practice that reeks of insincerity.9 points

All I'm going to do is reflect on how proud I am that the first source to tell me about the Demon's dinner fiasco was the club itself.9 points

Nothing to see, except: * Essendon were disqualified from the 2013 finals. * They were fined $2 million * They were stripped of first and second round draft picks in 2013 and 2014 * James Hird was banned from football for 12 months * Danny Corcoran copped a six months ban * Mark Thompson was fined $30,000 * Stephen Dank received a lifetime ban * 34 players received a 12 month ban So, apart from all those things ...8 points

So now Smith has come out & said after much reflection I'm now in a position to confess to indulging in behaviours in late 2021 of which he's deeply ashamed. No you were never going to confess. You've been caught out & now scrambling.8 points

I remember growing up in the 80s and 90s and all the Bomber supporters who were all so smug. And right up until 2000 when yes, they had a truly outstanding team. But oh how it warms the heart to know that since their 2004 elimination final win they've done Sweet. F. A. And it warms it even more knowing with this list they'll do nothing for another 5, probably 10 years. Soft mids, skinny talls and overweight half forwards. Its just so wonderful to watch. The same list manager for 2 decades but yet in total denial its his fault. Lets hope they never sack him.8 points

Using mental health to cover up genuinely poor behavior just minimizes the seriousness of those who really suffer from poor mental health. I’m not suggesting Smith hasn’t suffered from mental health problems, but let’s not for a minute blame that for using drugs and then having it recorded on social media. Seriously that’s not a mental health issue that’s a stupidity issue.7 points

Disagree. The narrative is already being shaped: May - 'He has history this bloke. Horrible look. So much damage. Obviously a trouble maker....' Smith - 'We need to think about his mental health. Poor fella must be struggling. Needs our support...'7 points

It might help explain the brain fades and need for special leave. Btw, Lachie Hunter is ready to come back from 'personal' leave after a convenient 6 week break... The bulldogs are quite adept at using smoke screens and finding nothing after their own investigations. Maybe Tom Morris got too close to the truth of what happens at the kennel...7 points

Interesting reading all the loathing of Essendon: an attitude I endorse fully. Any team that has prolonged success gets labelled as "arrogant, entitled etc.." just because they demonstrate a renewed senses of confidence. Carlton 70's and 80's, Hawks in 3 eras, Geelong, North under Carey, Lions 01-03, Tigers now. To be honest it is a sort of arrogance and entitlement I hope to hold onto over the next 5 years. But The Bombers are different. They won 1 premiership in an era they were supposed to dominate. When they failed in 1999 they refused to sing their own club song until they won in 2000, denying their supporters the joy of being part of the club's success. And since then they have been a self-indulgent, bland, joyless, mediocre bunch of grand standers whose arrogance hit the high point when injecting their players in secrecy. The fact they have not sacked their entire recruiting team shouts "hubris" very loudly to the AFL world. The way the AFL applauded their violent thuggery to win the 2000 GF will keep the Bombers forever despised by me, even if at times there are certain players I like watching. I don't really want them to win wooden spoons - that is too easy. I want them believing in their own delusion and staying at position 10-16 for the next 50 years. Boy, that felt good to type!7 points

I think everyone knows what it says about Sam - Goodwin said in his presser he has been told he needs to improve (my words significantly) on certain things - my guess is - not being easily pushed off the ball - bringing the ball to ground and stopping his opponent marking - compete with some aggression when not in possession - heaven forbid kick a few goals - run hard to create space and an option for players up the field there may be more I don’t know but whatever it is he’s not close to a recall based on what I’m hearing unless he starts playing with a bit more physicality6 points

And you were spot on…completely untouchable now. They’ve done the same with Hunter. Libba before that.6 points

because we are melbourne supporters and we assume players want to leave. no idea myself why he would want to leave. we have 6+ WA players on the list. they are grown men and can do without their parents im sure6 points

What happens if the AFL investigation finds that the CCTV reveals a long and harmonious group involved in deep and meaningful discussion supporting diverse opinions and supporting world peace, climate change and the actions of the new government until one member indicated that there were obviously things more important than playing in a grand final. Spirited debate on this issue led to some role playing about structures and positioning including a discussion on legitimate holding and tackling techniques and there effectiveness in a match day scanario. During this training session a player lost footing on the Enugu all surface and was propelled into the trailing fist of a teammate. Having then caused some disturbance in the restaurant apologies were made and players left discussing the need to ensure when structures were threatened there needed to be a consolidation of presence and an ability to have alternative exits and patterns available. Should the Pies try to exploit any unexpected structural disturbances a more robust physical presence may provide an alternative practice. These tactics will be discussed at the formal training session following day. Players all pat each other on the back and retire in a satisfied state having recognised and acknowledged hierarchy. it was confirmed that May with concussion should not play this week. Lever was to be given more respect and an opportunity to improve his communication in Mays absence and a further defender needed to be included in the team to consolidate the learnings from match day experience. The next meeting would be held at a date and venue to be notified after discussion with the coaches and club.5 points

Collingwood also lost to WC. I'm not confident and agree we shouldn't be based on form, but similarly suggesting Collingwood "should" win is still a stretch. They've played some good football and notched some good wins. They also lost to the Bulldogs by 9 goals and beat up a Freo side that at the time was going through an arguably worse patch on field than we are going through right now. I respect what Collingwood has done so far but we're still the best team in the land. We should have beaten Freo and we should have beaten Sydney. Carlton should've beaten Collingwood. We should beat Collingwood. Form is important obviously but if either team *should* win, it should be the objectively better team. And that's Melbourne. Let's show our team a bit of respect here.5 points

Electing to physically assault someone, let alone someone recovering from concussion, let alone your teammate should be the absolute last resort. If you are defending yourself for example. Punching someone in the head because they said some mean things is not on. That's not to excuse May's behaviour but there are other ways to resolve conflicts.5 points

The AFL "Integrity Unit" should 1/ investigate the MRO/MRP 2/ investigate the state of umpiring 3/ investigate the Integrity Unit 4/ disband Absolutely a misnomer - very very selectively investigates who it like and ignores what it doesn't want to know - like the FBI snd the Hunter Biden laptop.4 points

"Turner, who grew up in Albury, made the move to Melbourne last year, and now lives with Angus Brayshaw’s parents, alongside teammates Judd McVee and Taj Woewodin". I guess that means Jackson has been allowed to leave the nest. The Brayshaws' are wonderful a demon family (shame we can't get Andrew to join). They have helped set so many young demon lads on their AFL path. Mr and Mrs Brayshaw deserve a medal.4 points
