Great News, Imagine going back in time to the sad era and telling yourself that a Melbourne player that kicked 6 in a winning Grand Final just re-signed for 5 years. I'd check myself into an asylum .15 points

The way I read it is the club is hoping to get 40,000 there, not a limit of 40k. They stated they want as many supporters as possible to attend.9 points

I just want to set the record straight with AVB's departure. In his End Of Season meeting he was asked to "wait for 2 - 3 weeks before the Club would come back to him and, in all likelihood make him an offer. The length and value of that offer could only be determined after some other discussions had taken place." To be honest, AVB went into the meeting with a pre-determined decision to call time on his Demon journey, and he very respectfully informed Goody of his decision. Goody then asked AVB "if there was anything he could say to change his mind, but AVB said "that he had thought long & hard and had decided that it was best for him to move on". Simon then asked AVB if he wanted to tell the Players himself, and that was done. Go Dees.8 points

In an ironic way he became the player we all expected Jack Watt to become.7 points

Mentioned this a few years ago ... So the day after he was drafted, the top picks were paraded to media just across from AFL House at the Docklands. While working near by, and in between his interviews, l managed to introduce myself before he realised l wasn't a journo but was more than happy to chat to a dees supporter. Very genuine, he was super excited to be joining MFC and we agreed that he was a great fit as we needed ruck / forward support for Max and that he would learn alot under him. He also wasn't fussed about moving to Melbourne as he had been here before many times for basketball and football rep games and was expecting to leave WA anyway - which pleased me the most. Suspect he was also relieved not to be picked up by Gold Coast or GWS with their early picks7 points

Bailey has never had problems getting the ball and having shots on goal. This year though his accuracy was infinitely more reliable. His GF spilt speccy over Gawn, cat-like and Robbie-like regather and goal is one of my all time favourites6 points

So not much chance of him coming to my place to fix the lights anytime soon then.6 points

Once again, you say a lot but reveal nothing. Quite Pathetic really. Put up or shut up, your comments are offensive…5 points

An outstanding interview. Great to get some insights into the external mentors/influences for his own growth: Neil Craig, Mark Viscus (surfing), an interest in the neuro sciences, 'normalising' anxiety: it is ok to be anxious, the 'This is Me' song from the Greatest Showman. Interestingly it was played in the rooms during the warm up for GF. It is the most relaxed Goodwin I have heard. It is great to hear him happy, joking and confident. In prep for next year and beyond he is going to work over the next 4-5 weeks with the coaches and talk to clubs (inside and outside football) that have won premierships multiple times.5 points

I think that there are a few levels to this. Firstly, it's really difficult to measure the quality of the contributions of each player drafted. There's no overarching, unifying metric which approximates how valuable a player has been (like, for example, WAR in baseball). All metric are imperfect but 'games played' is especially so. As an example Robbie Gray was drafted at pick 55 in the 2006 draft, won a Coach's Award in 2014 and was AA 4 times, won 3 B&Fs. On the other hand, David Mackay was drafted at 48 in the 2006 draft and his career highlight was the one game where he was awarded one Brownlow vote for his 23 possession game against Melbourne in 2015. Robbie Gray has played 255 games and David Mackay has played 248. Games is an imperfect metric for player value. But beyond that, there is a lot that rings true from the article. Midfielders, especially those that are contest winners, tend to be far easier to judge at the very top of the draft. This is because their games are more developed (they win contests against similarly developed peers) and the level of projection needed is very small. You only need to look at a tape of Horne-Francis for about 30 seconds to realise that he's a gun and that his game would translate to AFL footy easily even if he made minimal further improvements. But a tall needs to beat far stronger and developed opponents in one on one contests. It takes longer for those talls to develop the strength to compete against and eventually beat these older players. It's this additional level of physical development required of the taller players to play their role at AFL level that means there is a lot more faith required that they will develop as hoped. The more 'one on one' element there is to a player's game (eg, rucks, power forwards/defenders) the more development required and hence the greater risk you take that the player won't develop as hoped. As for the difference between picks 6-10 and 11-20, past the top 5 you are generally dealing with players with significant flaws to their game and a lot of it will come down to what the recruiters like/don't like or what sort of risk they are willing to take. Recruiters are picking their own poison in a way. With all these picks, would you rather the tall that needs development, the speedy mid that needs to build a tank, the small defender with limited further scope, the intercept defender who isn't a great kick ..... they all have strengths but also flaws, otherwise they'd be in the top 5. It isn't a raffle. It's more like picking stocks. The ones up the top are your biggest companies: they're expensive but you're a lot more certain that they'll keep being good companies for a while. You're much more likely to pick an Amazon or Apple, but there's also a small chance that you pick AMP. As you get further down the draft you start getting into smaller companies: they're cheap because they're flawed or the development is really uncertain. You're far less likely to pick a winner here, but there are almost always a few diamonds to be picked from the rough, if you're lucky and know what you're looking for.5 points

Your an embarrassment to yourself Mach 5 ( or should it be Mach --5 ) because that's how low you stoop. If Perty has something in the Closet you are either too embarrassed to mention OR it's just a despicable and underhand fake attack on our Club Administration leader who has plenty of credits in the Bank. No matter how you try to discredit Gary your not succeeding and the likelihood of a very personal and false attack is greater but more in vain and less likely after every success our CEO is ticking as the weeks and days go by. You probably are trying to water down the enormous effects that our Premiership is having as it brings more praise on the Club, our Officials and our players as each day goes by! Give it a rest ie put up with the facts or please SHUT UP.5 points

Vanders career was ruined by injury but he help shape the 2021 team and eventually a premiership. He will always remember being on the list of the premiers and will always have a team photo of the 45 players on the list.5 points

Fully deserved and very exciting. Great season for Fritta who is really undervalued ( prob not anymore after the GF) He now can look to get an AA spot to join the growing list of Dees in this group. Very calm and reassuring player who now exudes confidence class and goals galore. The presence of BBB and T Mac and the ruck resting LJ or Maxy has made our forward line a strength. Bayley has profited through our team approach and his sublime skills. Plays like an old fashioned forward. Another 5 years at least is great news!4 points

Updated for Petty and Fritsch contracts. Petty will be an RFA and Fritsch will be an FA at the end of their respective contracts. We have an incredibly stable list with probably only 3 'unforced' delistings: Hore, Declase, Lockhart. Very different form recent years of 10-12 each year. A list that has just one a premiership and will stay together for the next 5+ years.4 points

You are allowed to touch but not lift. I went with 3 other family members and the staff took a photo of us individually and then a group photo. We needed to sanitise our hands before. Mask wearing is compulsory in the museum but you can take it off for the photo.4 points

Deadset - who else is left for us to worry about losing? This playing group has a fair bit left in them. Exciting times ahead.4 points

RR midfield that doesn't run both ways to defend and therefore put their backline under pressure. We exploited that mercilessly in the last part of the 3rd (Premiership) and 4th quarters. They maintained CB setups to attack and when they woke up to what was going on it was too late. Game virtually over at 3/4 time. Its the same problem we had. It wasn't until our midfield learnt to defend (roll back, run both ways, zone to protect space, tackle hard) that our back 6 had a fighting chance to keep op score to approx 60pts, which they achieved in nearly every game, incl each final.4 points

Basically says Gawn was a tigers supporter as a kid and Dimma keep seeing him at McKinnon secondary college and Ormand Amos. They tried to get him to the tigers via his agent but Max had signed on for melb. Then Roos came on board. To be honest I think it is a bit of a nothing story. I don't believe Max ever seriously considered it.4 points

Excellent re-signing. I remember at the end of last season he remained un-signed and I was worried we were going to lose him as he'd had a wayward season in front of goal, he'd been dropped for sleeping in whilst in the hub and then there was the famous axing after the 2018 semi final. He could've been forgiven for wanting a fresh start I guess. Fast forward a year later and he's kicked 6 snags in a GF, almost kicked 60 for the season and he's now going to be a key part of our next 5 years. Well done to both parties.4 points

He would have got a 6 year extension but his last goal in the GF was in junk time.4 points

Or Somyurek to completely snooker them and a need to change the news cycle. Either way I don't care. Let's all get there and celebrate.4 points

The fact is that his Manager fielded several queries late in the Season when other clubs saw that he wasn't getting a game. That said, AVB bought out his family members and owns a significant business in Bega that he oversees remotely. He also has a Commerce degree which might surprise many, and has a strong desire to get into Investment Banking/Finance. So don't be surprised to see him hang up the boots and keep his body in some sort of condition that he will be able to walk properly after 50. Go Dees.4 points

King Marcus has an immunity pin (actually in the custody of Michael Christian) that he can use to avoid getting cited. Michael doesn't even need to ask Marcus if he wants to use it, it's just understood.3 points

Is that his name? You’d think it was Ron Barassi the way he gets mentioned any time he touches the ball. Annoys the [censored] out of me. Anyway great news, always been a fan, couldn’t be happier.3 points

And trust it continues. Pick number 31 initially and wears number 31. Great omen and can only hope he does RDB's number proud going forward.3 points

Hopefully we get Jaguar back in board. Supported us before we were premiers. Though I’m sure the sponsorship $$ have risen by at least 20% for 2022. we are the Premiership team. Lots of exposure. Lots of merchandise.3 points

It's entirely possible that long term barracking for Melbourne made you snap, and everything that's happened since August is only an hallucination. Maybe in the real world Fritsch is negotiating to join Essendon? Wishing you a complete recovery!3 points

People forget they finished 5th on the ladder. Rolls Royce midfield but defensively suspect. Unless they find some better defenders they can't win imv3 points

Martin played 16 games and was injured in round 18 when the tigers where 8 and 9. Richmond supporters and others think he missed the entire year and was the reason Richmond missed the eight. The tigers where more than likely missing with or without a Martin injury.3 points
