This is so disconcerting, being an actual AFL club of substance. Kudos to getting another up and comer signed on longer term. His aggression/arrogance grew with his confidence this season, he was really into English and Schache during the grand final.10 points

As Anthony Hudson said in a PF, with the Swans and Cats I think it was, " I see it but I don't believe it". It is some of the most powerful, perfect, team football I have ever seen and in a GF to boot. It just brings tears to the eyes of the long suffering Dees fans, well mine at least.10 points

Nev was an outstanding player and role model for us, with a huge work ethic, and moral / ethical standards to match. I want him back at the Dees one day, when the timing works for him and our Club.10 points

Riv feels like another of our young brigade who should end up a 200+ gamer. Has been very impressive in his first two seasons across HB, plays with a ton of composure, is a good interceptor, has speed off half back, a long kick and plays with heart. Looking forward to many more great games from our #24 whether down back or in the midfield. Stupid sexy Riv.7 points

Will never get old. Gotta love BBs run up. Does the job. Our shooting at goal has been pretty suspect all year but boy oh boy did we fix that in the third. So funny that Bt said ....gotta get the next one or two.....Still on the fence bw Tracs worm goal and Frittas fourth. Before it all arupted, I childishly removed myself from the family viewing and sulked into my bedrooom(after Bonts goal), licking my wounds and feeling a sense of doom. Didn't last long......I was dancing on the coffee table during the break.6 points

Fritsch's fourth goal still makes me fist-pump the air every time I see it, without fail6 points

Nev is a champ. Well-spoken, obviously intelligent. I hope he comes back to us in the future either as a coach or an Indigenous liaison role6 points

An article about draft pick wheeling and dealing: picks-clubs-most-likely-to-swap "The Demons entered the trade period without a first-round selection and walked out with Pick 17. But they mightn’t be done there, with rival teams wary the Dees could still try and force their way up the draft order because they have a specific player in mind. Melbourne also has Picks 37, 49 and 57, but is weighing up whether to use two or three live selections at the draft". Who might be our 'specific player'? Obviously likely to go before #17. Let the guessing games begin! Who will be our two or three picks? Based on info in other threads (not in order of pick): A first round player, be it pick 17 or a better one if we can trade up. Taj Woewodin Andrew Mac if he slides past 20 or Andy Moniz-Wakefield (who could slide to a B rookie). We currently have 4 overall list spots (Seniors + A Rookies) and 2 B Rookies. With two or three draft selections we will have at least one overall list spot for a DFA, the PSD or MSD.6 points

His upside is huge considering he was playing his 34 game in the GF and his position in the side was never in question thru out the season. I still think he will become a wingman in the future because he has that attacking flare for such a young man.5 points

Nice comments thanks. I am just grateful for the win and for being able to enjoy and bathe in the after glow. It has brought joy to our hearts. Not just the elderly, but supporters of all ages particularly the kids and the younger brigade. All those who have lived with the disappointments of the past 20 to 30 years. A sense of pride has been restored in a way that has never happened before. The great sides of the 50s and early 60s were built on the success of earlier years going back to the 30s and 40s. Melbourne was simply the biggest and the best. We had nothing to prove. Everyone regarded the Club as the biggest and the best. Period. This time the club had to pull itself out of hole of 50 years of suffering. And many years of being regarded as perennial losers. Now we have seen the transition from loser to winner and a club that has regained its pride. It’s an amazing feeling and an amazing time to be a Demons supporter. That dull feeling of defeat and negativity has lifted to unveil bright sunshine and a red and blue sky.5 points

Some further good news! Simon Goodwin to be offered a new contract extension to continue as coach of the Melbourne Football Club. As a Premiership coach Simon now holds the upper hand in any contract negotiations. I suspect he will be offered either a 3 to 5 year contract extension by the Melbourne Football Club. Fingers crossed we get a few more Premierships at the Demons while he is coach! Here is the article about it: https://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/afl-fixture-2022-melbourne-primed-for-marquee-time-slots/news-story/3b110fb7514add22a86b6b7d4a79d0334 points

Magnificent Spine chilling Gets me pumped up every time very emotional when Clarry raises the arm and signals after the goal, that’s when I dared to dream that we’d win and we did 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 🏆4 points

What a player. Doesn't get the headlines of the other two from that magnificent draft but does his job well week in, week out. Provides excellent release from the backline, an excellent tackler and a good midfield rebounder. Has become one of my favourite players.4 points

Sorry if already been discussed, but just slow-mo’d Trac first goal :- definitely not a mark, hence the smart decision to play on quickly4 points

ESPN's Mike Breen for the BANG! after every goal. Reminds me of Huddo. On the topic of commentary, having Luke Hodge on special comments was fitting. Reminded me how far we've come from watching him dominate at the G in the GF. And how deflating it was knowing how far Hawthorn were not only ahead of us, but ahead of the nearest competitor.3 points

I don't love that tape at all. Seems to rush a lot of his disposals and doesn't play with any power, he doesn't use his speed to take on tacklers and doesn't hold the ball to release runners. A couple of good quick handballs but a couple of panicked turnover ones too. More of a Setterfield or Cale Morton type from that viewing. At that size and athleticism there's plenty to work with but there's also a lot of work to do!3 points

I love watching these goals over and over, but every time I see the bloke in the crowd tearing up, it gets me every time.3 points

Moved from a possible to a definite during 2021. Will be interesting to see where Tomlinson is played in 2022 and if Petty is played forward what about TMac and Weid Selection problems to make one salivate3 points

The doggies were totally gutted. One can only speculate ( fantasise) about the possible carnage if the quarter went for another 3 or 4 minutes3 points

And along with bowey imagine how good these kids will be at 25 after playing alongside and under May and Lever support and leadership. SALEM ALSO in that role.3 points

Sensational is the only word which describes the play, I have watch football since 1952 and this is truly magnificent. The faces of the Bulldogs said it all, we are done!3 points

Click-bait title but important issues spoken about. I knew Matty Whelan still had his indigenous role at the club but it’s interesting to hear firstly how important it was compared to what the rest of the club knew, but also that it’s not something that was a mandated role until now. Sounds like with his knowledge we were able to create a strong bond with Kozzie that hopefully will never end! I’m really sad we’ve lost Nev (and going to the pies, urgh!) but he’s been in one system his entire footballing life so getting out into something new will be great for him, and he’s also seemingly gone where he’s needed the most. I hope in the future he’ll come back in some capacity, and I just hope the Pies are good to him.3 points
-
Even though Nev has gone and worked for the pies, I would be highly surprised if he would spread mis-truths on the topic. When he says "we could have lost Koz, if it wasn't handled delicately" (ie if he was forced to come back to training early), then I take his word for it.3 points

Thanks! And jeez, I'm glad they talked some sense into the club. Can't underestimate how important it is to have fellas around who show compassion and understanding and leadership to and for their teammates3 points

Whelan has an important role. But its really a non issue compared to what the article is making out. I would say clubs are very good at working with indigenous players today and supporting them. Our history with our indigenous players in the past says we do the right thing by our player when we can.3 points

Surprised I’ve not seen much on here re EASTONWOOD but kudos on a really good career in the end. Plagued by hamstring injuries, but on his day in his prime he took on the best fwds in the comp and more than held his own (he usually was the biggest or best tall ina very age defence) and is one of two premiership captains at his club. Well done sir.3 points

Well picked up Rumpole and Chelly on your knowledge of Richmond’s list and ruck stocks. I think I might check out the other clubs in line to select a long term project ruckman in this draft. I’m always prepared to stand corrected but my position with respect to Andrew remains unchanged. On what he’s shown to the public in his eight matches played in 2021, he’s a mid 20s draft selection. I will strongly question the competence/sanity of any recruiter who picks him in the top 10 and moreover, I question all this hype surrounding him. I see one commentator has questioned whether the noise surrounding the favourite for number 1, Jason Horne-Francis is good for him. At least he’ll be playing AFL in an early round in 2022 and not in 2 or 3 years time which is the expectation with Andrew. The pressure of something like that will be similar to that experienced by Jack Watts when he went #1. Hopefully, he lands at a good club.2 points

Just to take both us & the Dogs out of the equation for a minute. Not a fan of Grand final rematches in Round 1. It's a waste. The reigning premier could play anyone & their fans would turn up in droves for the unfurling. You don't need big numbers of oppo fans - it's gonna be a huge crowd celebrating anyway. Far better to have the rematch after 4 or 5 rounds. And if both teams happen to be undefeated leading into that clash, then you've really got a blockbuster event !2 points
