One of the worst teams Hawthorns has put on the ground, no way we lose this. Hawthorn by 17.21 points

They persecuted us for years on end. They beat us up, mocked us and kicked us in the teeth when we were down. Let’s show them how to win in style …16 points

Lucky to get anything out of that game. We won one quarter tonight. One. Against the 17th ranked side missing something like 10 best 22 players. We have a clear, blatant problem of failing to play our best football against bad sides. We've played five games against the bottom 4 for two wins, and the two wins were average. We are going to cost ourselves ladder position from leaving 10 premiership points behind in these games. You could see it at half time: having conceded three goals in 10 minutes, Petracca and Oliver were laughing. I dare say you wouldn't see Joel Selwood laughing at half time of any game. But even despite our terrible play, we still had 5 more scoring shots. Again, our inaccuracy in front of goal costs us premiership points. They kicked something like 8 straight goals through the middle of the game whilst we missed shot after shot. Even at the end, in a game where we needed a point, Spargo, Pickett, Fritsch and Brayshaw all had set shots for a combined two points. This isn't a gameplan or talent problem. It's a psychological problem, coupled with goalkicking inaccuracy.14 points

How about Fritschs set shot with under five minutes to go. He chose to chip it to the top of the goal square for a ten man contest ffs. A point would have made all the difference. So dumb, so lazy. The whole team.12 points

Without footy this lockdown would make my head explode. And what a year for us to star. Lets smash a team for once.11 points

I have a soft spot for Frosty. I sure don;t miss the heart palpatations he gave me but he always had a dip. Sublime and ridiculous in equal measure11 points

More points than goals... again. Consistent high long bombs into our F50 that went nowhere. Handballing to stationary team mates 1 metre away, or high loopy ones putting them under pressure. Flogged at ground level all over the ground. Little intensity around the packs And stuff me, the fumbling. What was that. Sometimes I have no idea why I waste so much time watching the Dees play. With ball in hand we were so unenjoyable. And if I see one more player try to evade the 1st tackle, get whacked, and then stuff up trying to do the 2nd handball, I will puke. Give the first option. And yet, we are on top of the ladder. How can we be on top of the ladder and yet I feel so carp!!!10 points

[censored] putrid. A team with 10 players under 35 games who had desire vs a supposedly top team with zero game plan and zero desire and zero inspiration. Call Clarko and see if he wants a job next year.10 points

When you draw against the 17th team on the ladder playing infants while you are fighting it out for first, umpires are not the problem. Yes umpiring was putrid, but welcome to 2021. We have only ourselves to blame. We played lazy and our pressure was well down. We also fumbled badly and couldn’t win a ground ball. Tackling was non existent and we again blew easy shots on goal. This is what led to the result. Not poor umpiring.9 points

I’m not really worried, just mindful that we have been off against lower ranked teams. I really want the player to bring a huge amount of pressure early to overwhelm them and get early scores on the board. I’m also excited, I arrived from the UK yesterday and am watching the game from quarantine. Great to watch a game at a normal time, and great to be home.9 points

Another stable team at the selection table. Has to be lots of cohesion developing. Want us to be ruthless, kick scores with plenty of accuracy and play the 4 quarters. Pressure to be applied, and we need to stick the tackles. Oliver and Tracc to play with endeavour from the start and not just after half-time. It is a bad habit to be picking and choosing when to go. Viney must be game fit now. Expecting him to perform, get the ball in and under, then deliver with effective and efficient passes and handballs. Hoping his main impact will be with goal assist. ANB and Sparg's to lift, and the players to make lace outs to BBB. Want to see fast ball movement, clean hands and smart play. Win the clearances and the contested, so as to get our attacking system running smoothly. Go Dees.9 points

I’m really worried about Viney’s inclusion. Since returning, our midfield has been beaten 3 of the last 4 games. Our win against Port came when he had a clear role in tagging Wines. He offers us nothing. His tackles aren’t getting rewarded and his kicking is a weapon against us.8 points

When i saw Clayton with the hollywood handball over his head straight to the oppostion in the first quarter i thought here we go.8 points

How do we dominate teams like Port and Brisbane and the Dogs but draw to hawthorn lol This bloody team man is gonna give me a stroke8 points

Hawks were atrocious last week. Absolutely pantsed by Freo. Have a real end of season look about them, coaching hand-over a big distraction, injuries, etc. Noise around that they have turned their minds to draft picks. They are there for the taking. 4 points most important thing but for once this year I’d like to see us put a team to the sword. Percentage could be a factor in the final reckoning and we have not converted our dominance in games into bigger scores. Would love us to register a 50+ point win today. Let’s swarm these bastards from the get-go and pummel them into the ground Good luck Vanders. I love your heart and attack on the footy. Go Dees8 points

The umpiring really killed us. Petty gets called for HTB in the fourth when he slips over with barely any prior. Hartigan then gets caught after taking a player on and drops it in our forward line, but doesn't get called. Brown gets called for the "hold" on McEvoy in the second. So many 50/50% calls went their way but then didn't go ours.7 points

Yze has a bit of work to do with the midfield. We are just getting beaten in the centre7 points

Bit harsh, Oliver was our leading possession winner and tackler. He had 11 when 9 players had 1 or less.7 points

The missus emptied the swear jar at half time in readiness for a refill in the second half!7 points

Knee jerk lockdowns? What we now have in NSW is a direct result of NOT having a knee jerk reaction… I know what I’d prefer. I’d say that rather than being a knee jerk reaction, Vic and WA responses are a result of hard lessons learnt.7 points

In Rd5, we beat them by 50 (4th quarter by 40), let's make that margin again. Geelong is 130.33% at moment, ours is 129.92%, 50 points margin would lift us to around 133%. Go Dees, you can do it!7 points

Dont care he is a champion who we would have loved to have playing for us 6 goals in yr 300th phenomenal effort7 points

He had 14 contested possessions (31 possessions in total) and 11 tackles. Go back and hide under your rock mate.6 points

Three. We put Hawthorn a game and percentage above North, so screwed their plan to draft Jason Horne.6 points

This is precisely why nobody gives us a realistic chance to win a flag. Champion teams have killer instincts. The only thing we possess is a [censored] the bed instinct. Woeful performance across the board. Most disappointed in our leaders. Gawn dumb and ineffective. Viney a liability and a complete plodder. Trac with the Hollywood football. Tmac not a yelp. If this team doesn’t learnt to kick mother[censored] goals I swear to god. [censored] great way to say thanks to our record breaking membership. Melbourne, you’ve done it again!6 points

Brayshaw and Pickett dead in front should’ve converted. That being said, Hawthorn probably deserved that game. We aren’t playing well. Lucky to draw that in the end.6 points

Look sure, it was a dumb comment. He's a great player, but I'm still entitled to dislike the guy. Joel Selwood's a gun too, but I can't stand him either! His off-field persona just puts me off. I still remember his comments last year decrying how outrageous it was that players were asked to take a modest paycut to keep the AFL afloat, while coaches and support staff were losing their jobs entirely (not to mention how tone-deaf it was at a time when so many ordinary people were losing jobs and businesses were going broke). Really sullied my opinion of the guy, that's all.6 points

Bulldogs beat the Suns by 11 points with 4 less scoring shots. Dees draw with Hawthorn with 5 more scoring shots. Our inaccuracy will cost us a final as it’s now become a pattern of behaviour. Livid with Brayshaw’s miss late in the game. The Brayshaw of 2018 would’ve eaten that goal for breakfast.5 points
-
We need to think ourselves lucky that the finals are played by the top 8. Interesting to hear from anyone who doesn't think this is a mental thing. We murder Port away, then look like this against a horrible Hawthorn side. Gold Coast would think they are a serious chance next week, and Geelong / Bulldogs would be itching to get their hands on us again. Bloody confusing and exasperating.5 points
-
Our midfielders are making a habit of picking when to go. That’s the difference for us. I can’t have Viney in our midfield mix. He’s just way too one dimensional. Can’t kick, and too slow. We don’t look anywhere near as dynamic with him in there. We will respond next week, but it’s becoming an issue that we even need to. I feel like our midfield is a few years off having the emotional maturity to contend over a full season.5 points
-
I just dont think our effort is anywhere near last weeks game and my point was we struggle agsinst bottom sides while cats smash them. Its a fair comment.5 points

Ugly-Hogan with a massive grab..!!!!! Commentators need to calm down, it was a stock standard mark. Nice kick though.5 points

I might be on my own here but I’m kind of hoping the Suns beat the Dogs tonight.5 points

Tom Morris mentioned that dusty has played 260 of a possible 268 AFL games. Thats serious durability Hope he makes a full recovery. Kidney injuries can be very serious5 points

As I said, Dan Andrews rubbished the idea yesterday that under 40's would miss out on attending if unvaccinated. He was clear in his opinion that the under 40's shouldn't be penalised for a vaccine supply shortage in this country. Andrews stated that it would be a different scenario if the vaccine was available and people chose not to be vaccinated. Those people would and should be precluded from attending. I couldn't care less if you think I have an awful attitude. My personal dream/goal/ambition is to see a premiership live at the MCG. Not in the loungeroom. I have no interest in handing over my priority access GF ticket to someone else because I'm ineligible to get the appropriate vaccine. I'm in my very very late 30's and currently ineligible for the Pfizer vaccine. I have been attending weekly games since the late 80's and went to every single game in the horrid Neeld era when we were getting 12,000 to some games. I have just as much right to see my club play in a grand final than any other loyal MFC members regardless of age, and would be bitterly upset if I was told I can't go for a reason out of my control despite having priority access to GF tickets.5 points
