Have heard snippets here and there. Defensive zoning will be a big thing Adem is pushing. We'll run forward hard and fast, but players behind the ball will be left in no uncertain terms about where they should be positioning themselves to try and prevent the opposition rebounding we're so used to seeing. Gawny will be forward a fair bit. Not sure if that will change once Weid and/or Brown are back, but it's absolutely part of the strategy. Other talls, namely Jackson and TMac will be tasked with getting higher up the ground to make that work. We may also see a bit of a surprise on the wing... I'd give a clue, but then you might pick it. ;)6 points

For 3-4 years now a lot of footy experts have rated our playing list very highly but we have continued to underperform. Maybe someone like Choco has been the missing ingredient. He is an old school motivator, very direct when it’s required but very likeable. I distinctly remember how much the Tiges players loved him when he was there not that long ago, as the club began its transformation from laughing stock to benchmark. As others have said he could be the best signing our club has made in years.5 points

That's good. Is it like a probationary period for soon to be three time premiers?4 points

I find the “replacement for Simon” narrative tedious, and are more interested in the issues in our team that Mark was specifically hired to address. He mentioned a couple, kicking being one, he seems a great team bonder, what else? I like to think that the footy brains trust at the MFC have a strategy in motion with the additions of Williams and Yze, and if it all comes together (under Simon Goodwin, our coach), we’ll have a happy year. Cannot wait.4 points

Whilst it's only a couple of bucks, it's complete BS that we have to pay a service fee to redeem tickets.4 points

Williams was very positive about Weid - comparing him to early Tredrea and Chad Cornes. Brendan McCartney was also a big Weid fan. I'm keen to see what he can produce this year.4 points

I feel many coaches are thrown on the scrap heap too early after unsuccessful stints. When I say that I mean that they may be disguarded as viable options when their 1st appointments don't go as planned. They learn what might have gone wrong at 1st club and make sure the same mistakes aren't made again at second and 3rd clubs etc. Williams has that much experience around football clubs it's not fuunny. He understands what motivates players and what doesn't. He's learnt over many years how to be a man manager. Learnt not to sweat the small stuff that comes with being an AFL coach. Has that no BS persona. Love the fact he's with us.3 points

I am more thinking from Williams side of it. I am sure Richmond/Hardwick did the right thing but could not blame Williams for being salty one iota. Pretty crappy place to hear that type of news regardless of whether it was done it the right manner or not anyway.3 points

The Key ingredient that Mark Williams brings in spades is "Belief", he makes players believe that they are better than they think they are, we now have enough talent to go around, what we have lacked is cohesion and belief, fix one and you have the other. He makes you feel like running out and kicking a goal.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!3 points

For future reference. Paste first barcode in box, hit enter and then paste your second barcode (repeat for multiple barcodes up to six) and then hit the Next button. Your barcodes will be together.3 points

https://foxsports.com.au/afl/extigers-assistant-mark-williams-says-he-hasnt-spoken-with-damien-hardwick-since-sacking/news-story/1c5a497bc05a2ef29813ab0e57ba42fe Came as a shock to him at the end of 2016. Had a great relationship with players though.3 points

We picked him up from Williamstown....few years out of the AFL for no real good reason imo!3 points

I'll live with that if it's a compulsory week off for the subbed player. The opportuntiy to game it otherwise is obvious3 points

Yet we beat more finals teams with that combination than we did in the rest of the season with flat track Jesse moping around. Weideman showed last year he can absolutely still be one of the main targets and adequately replace Hogan. Unfortunately Tom McDonald turned from a fringe AA player to a cactus overnight. Now he gets his chance to make a stirring return to form.3 points

Agree with the other comments made on this thread. We are in the fortunate position that if Simon falls over, we have a premiership coach and also an assistant to a multiple premiership coach in the wings. With Williams, you have all the knowledge, skills, confidence and communication style that makes one think that a “transfer of power” could be a good thing. Williams has a verve and a spark that is infectious. Not sure about Yze. All we know is that he has been taught by the Master and is obviously a senior coach in waiting. But we have been down that track before. Williams in the other hand has an established track record.3 points

Stop defending these players who have achieved really nothing apart from a finals appearance once since 2006! As Kane Cornes said stop the talking, hell & back bs & just do ffs3 points

If I recall my Nostradamus correctly, the old fellow said "in the year of the plague but one, the son of Fos will consort with demons and deliver a flag." For centuries, no-one understood what it meant ... they thought it might be about JFK, or maybe Elvis ... but I'm starting to think it could something much more pertinent.3 points

I am OK with Malthouse's observation. Perhaps the players should put this comment on their 'mirrors' and use it as motivation. There is no doubt in my mind that this group have under performed up until now.3 points

Lovely imagry PD that describes his situation to a T And Goody cant work out what's busted so just keeps running it with the same result over and over again!2 points

Who’s going to use injures as an excuse if we get done considering Freo are missing their forward fire power in Walters and Lobbe as well as a few other best 22 players?2 points

Good coaches are like kids with the old wind up toys. They test the toy with a few turns of they key and when confident, turn the key as far as possible without breaking it and let it go. Goodwin took his new toy with both hands but turned the key too hard too early and busted the toy. It will only turn half way now and can’t be fixed. There are times when the toy runs better than expected but mostly the monkey stops banging the cymbals together after a very short time.2 points

Just happy they are trying things a bit outside the box. A few of Kossies runs through the backline and midfield were some of his most scintillating pieces of play last year. You get the sense he is going to be much more valuable than a forward pocket in the long run. With his skillset he may well end up the Liam Ryan type, creating nightmares for opposition up and down the ground. Only his 2nd year, we got a ripper here i reckon!2 points

I just watched this interview with Chocko and I've got to say I'm really stoked with everything he said. Talk is cheap, but there weren't many empty platitudes there. Time and time again he spoke of real examples where he has turned players around and delivered ultimate success. If things go well for us this year, Williams will be a key reason for that. If they go poorly, well we could do worse than Williams if Yze isn't the man to take the reigns from Goodwyn.2 points

Best thing the Club did over Summer was get this Bloke. Heard him interviewed last year on SEN one afternoon, talking about his Kicking Classes. The interview was at least 20 minutes. you could feel how passionate he was about getting it right. He is a teacher and we need that2 points

Good. Because, without putting too much pressure on the kid, and at the risk of hyperbole, i reckon kozzie is in our top 10 most important players. Without him we are next to hopeless in terms of pressure inside our 50, which is one of the most important/impactful factors in footy.2 points

Blocking is pretty popular ... particularly in marking contests. The Richmond defence are masters at it. However, the gentle art of shepherding seems to have all but vanished. At least for the Dees. How often (over the past couple of years) have you seen a handball to a team mate accompanied by a shepherd allowing the receiver to run off without direct pressure from an opponent?2 points

Just take a look at those 2 games in Cairns. the Team just expected to win.. Even against Bottom Sides, you still have to work hard as a unit to win. The MFC fails to do that so often, year after year.2 points

I agree - selfless football is great but sometimes you need someone to back themselves in and take the risks. I think where we fall down as a team if the selfless acts when we don't have the ball - gut running, shepherding etc that the best teams seem to do much better.2 points
