  4. OK, I just want to get this out first. Preuss did a great job. His first game for the season coming up against one of the big AA rucks and while he didn't break even he certainly put in a good contest. 24 Hitouts to 35 and 12 disposals to 15. That's a really good game against Grundy, especially keeping his disposals down.

  6. I gave Langdon a bake on here after the Crows game and was widely panned. OK, I thought, I’m going to watch him more closely from now on. And now I realise I was an absolute [censored] for baking him. He’s an absolute gun! Winners on every line tonight. As good a performance as I’ve seen under Goody. The lid’s off!

  9. Seriously not enough love for this guy. Throws himself at every content's and won some genuine won on won's down back. Loved his intercept mark in the first quarter also. He shows a lot of traits of Jetta when he was at his peak. Fantastic game tonight.

  10. Vander's was one of the most influential players on the ground in the first half. He splits packs, makes us walk taller and puts the fear of God in the opposition. I couldn't care if he had no stats!

  11. I told you guys at three quarter time we would win by 10 goals! Now, please, bask in every glorious moment of smashing the filth! Go Dees!

  12. It's 4 premiership points. We could lose this game and go undefeated for the rest of the year, but this one feels different... It's time for the new era to stand up, take control, and take this club foward. The old guard is done, they've battled as hard as they could but today is the day, against the old enemy, that we must rise. The old Melbourne would fold, fall, offer excuses, have a good team on paper but forget the game is played on the ground. I get the feeling these guys won't let that happen, there is something in the air that's for sure.

  13. He may not be amongst the best but Melksham deserves praise tonight. Blanketed their dangerous playmaker Maynard who's been in ripping form and kicked a few goals. Very effective tonight.

  14. Tearing up a bit tbh! Doesn't happen often but crushing the filth is what makes following footy worthwhile. We are definately back with big boys no w. Good luck giving votes tonight - we had a ****load of contributors. PS Was commentator G lyon a former Colonwood player? PPS Actually got the best of ****ty umpiring tonight. However, their view of what constitutes a mark rather confused me. Anyway go dees . Party time !!! VDB = Beast

  15. That was damn near perfect. Dominated early and got the score on the board before the rain came, and answered quickly every time they goaled. In a season of sometimes turgid footy, that was as watchable as it gets.

  16. Was it just me or did Preuss look like a pretty decent ruckman?

  18. Let's get the knocks on this one out of the way early: they were two down on the bench, missing some of their absolute best, and on a two-day-shorter break than us. But we did most of the damage in the first half, before their rotations or short break hit them. This wasn't junk time goals like the Adelaide/North wins were in some respect. They were on top in general play for a while and we absorbed it and then hit back when we could. Lever made three big errors but the back six, as a unit, held up well. They had more inside 50s than us. We got Viney back into the side and managed to have all four (Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca) play well. I thought Langdon was exceptional and got some reward for effort with his two goals. Also thought Lockhart and Hibberd were really good. Spargo's second quarter was a nice cameo highlight. But shows that he's a better player than many give him credit for. I'm still not sold on vandenBerg and Jones, though. But we had fewer passengers tonight and we won by 56 when the game wasn't entirely on our terms. Win next week and this is all starting to become real.

  19. Gee that was enjoyable! I’ve flown down to Melbourne to see many queens birthday losses over the last 10 years (bar Watts running goal to seal it, special). Pies supporters were leaving during the 4th quarter tonight. The Dees fans all up and about. Was so good being there and knowing we had the game sealed during the final quarter so could sit back and enjoy it! Dees song belting out around the Gabba after the final siren. You beauty! Go Dees!

  20. What a difference it makes having Weid in the forward 50 clunking marks.

  22. Not for the first time in recent seasons have the Demons gone into a game against the Magpies with their hopes for the season on the line. It happened late in 2017 and Melbourne was left lamenting. If the club want to prove it stands for something then it must win games like today with fierce attack on the ball and pressure at the contest from the start.

  25. But it won't though Pickett Geelong came off a 4 day break and Port had a 6 day break. Yet Geelong were still able to comfortably beat port. Its just going to come down to who wants it more and the better team on the day.

  29. I know the feeling on this one. We should comfortably account for them, but we've been here before and this team needs to do quite a bit more to regain the trust of the supporter base. It's going to take more than a few wins this season to make me go into a game like this feeling totally confident. This scum have had our edge for a few seasons now.

  30. I certainly did AF. What a great game. One of the best 4 qrt games I have seen live in a long time. Preuss was great. To come in to his first game since early last season and perform like he did is a credit to him. Trucks goal from the boundary line was absolutely sublime. The midfielders all worked well together too. Me and the kids belted out the song loud and proud about 3 times after the game. Special night and it was great for my kids to see us perform like that which they haven’t seen often at all.

  32. His 18 possies and good disposal didn’t hurt either, not to mention his pressure at the contest. I reckon a few Pies looked around when he was in the vicinity of a contested ball.

  33. ?% People who don't know this never played footy at a half decent level. The TEAM is better with him in it - end of story

  34. Good summary. We also got some favourable umpiring which made a nice change after recent weeks. Lever, Tomlinson and Harmes (the defender experiment needs to end) were clearly our worst based in their skills, effort and decision making. The forward line looks much better, I still want to see Smith there as another marking target. My whipping boys Langdon and Spargo were excellent and I thought Preuss more than held his own against Grundy. As good as Petracca was he wasn’t as sharp as he has been but still playing like a star. Brayshaw kicking goals is the best kind of Brayshaw, looks more like the 2018 version. Hibberd’s resurrection has been Jesus-like and Melksham didn’t make me want to throw my TV out the window for the first time in two years.

  36. Langdon is a very very good player and is a great pickup. Kicked 2 goals as well one from a snap from 35 out and a set shot from 45 that went straight through . Nothing wrong with his kicking for goal. Well done Dees this has been our best win for the year. Well done Goody you deserve a big mention you have the guy enjoying their fooball and are starting to believe again. 3 big wins in the last 3 game keep bringing it on Dees! . I

  37. That is an amazing assessment of his game tonight. Knocking out Mihocek had nothing to do with his game tonight, other than it was a typical, hard VDB attempt to get the ball.

  38. Sensational effort boys. 2nd Quarter was very impressive. Didn't stop running all day, showed some real hunger. Not gonna lie, beating the filth always feels just that little better.

  40. Right decision to unleash Preuss, this is exactly why we have him as insurance. At worst he will make a banged up Grundy even more battered and soften him for periods TMac needs to go in against he or Cameron. I would have played Rivers ahead of Jones or AVB as surely a fumbly Harmes comes out of the backline and locks in on Sidebottom. Keen to see how we use Viney to allow Brayshaw’s continued momentum and hope to see Weid continue his promising form. Amazed that they dropped Stephenson who we generally struggle for a match up on.

  41. Happy birthday young man! It was Saturday 15 August 1964 that we beat Hawthorn by 4 points (on a very muddy Glenferrie Oval) and then went on to win our last Premiership! Let’s hope that the ‘big scary man’ can help us get the four points today and history can repeat itself for you and your kids! ?

  45. I’m all chips in emotionally today for a Dees win. High risk, high reward. This year was going to be my 5yo girls’ first real game at the G; for obvious reasons this won’t happen. So I’ve earmarked today’s high-stakes match against the Filth as our ‘going to the footy day’. Shortly we will construct the ‘Demons Train’ out of 3 cardboard boxes to emulate catching the train to Jolimont. The girls have their footy jumpers on already and colour coordinated outfits. They even made little scarves out of tissue ribbons for their cuddly toys. My darling partner, who had no interest in footy, will be the ‘pie lady’, kindly providing home made beef & mushroom pies and pork & sage sausage rolls for dinner at half time. Bless. The kids are blindly confident, nothing less than victory could create emotional turmoil right on bed time. Or elation. I am confident, not blindly, rather knowing that we have the goods to win today and I’ll tuck the girls in tonight with a smile knowing we’ve beaten the Old Enemy! My emotional contingency in the event of defeat will be the comfort of pies and snag rolls in my tummy! PS: my old man (Grandpa) is a Filth supporter, adding to the pressure...

  46. If Pruess can lean on, body on and generally molest Grundy (not in a Richmond way) in order to nullify him and wear him out, then that will be a good job. If he can also take a couple of grabs around the ground - bloody good job. Pendles is a handy in but is he 100% ? In any case our midfield is hot atm and will give the filth plenty to worry about in itself. Once again, clean and considered entry to our forwards will be key. Hopefully Spargo will play have a repeat role in that. That, along with Tmac raising a gallop and finding some form would seal the deal. My great hope would be that the " grandson of a Collingwood legend" kicks a big bag and makes Eddie weep. Dees by 21 and a dirty deeds celebration at The Manor post match.
