  1. I won't bother chasing a refund.

  2. I'm a long-term Redlegs member who lives interstate. I always regard my annual membership as a donation to the best football club in the world. Nothing has changed.

  3. Agreed. I think he has clearly under some stress trying to work out how to pay all the clubs employees etc. I don't normally have much empathy with Eddy with all his Collingwood superiority complex, but if you listen objectively to what he was saying, I think he was trying to juggle the dual needs of financially struggling supporters and potentially a club that is financially struggling to support it's current expenditure in an environment with little or no revenue. I also don't think it's a good outcome for financially struggling members to see their club go down the gurgler as rightly or wrongly I think supporting your club on the weekend does give some of these people purpose in like when perhaps all else is falling apart around them. The one thing I would qualify this with is do the big clubs like Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong, Adelaide, Richmond, Hawthorn, WC etc have enough finacial reserves which they could reasonably dip into without too much pain. I partly think the answer to this is no, because many have probably taken out huge loans to pay for grotesquely exorbitant training facilities etc on the basis of their normally high income generation capacity.

  4. North to Mnorth merge with Gold Coast. Richmond tigers relocate as Tasmania tigers. Punt road facility becomes home of Melbourne football club. Essendon and Footscray merge as Western bombers. Carlton and Collingwood merge as iNorthern Magpies. Hawtorn and Stkilda merge as Southern Hawks. We secure identities, get rid of some shocking team strips and watch Collingwood and Carlton tear themselves apart trying to be the ascendant club.

  5. Americans every weekend: "I just wanna watch Netflix and chill. Lol!" The weekend every American needs to stay inside: "It's my god-given right to go outside and lick whatever I want!!!"

  6. How's his luck? Holds the record among current players for most games without playing in a final. Gets to that number (196 games) and then has two knee reconstructions preventing him from breaking that record and reaching 200 games. Starts a career as an assistant coach with the Collingwood AFLW team only to find that most, if not all, assistant coaches lose their jobs because of the Covid-19 downturn. I confess to having not been a fan of his when he played with us, but since he left I've grown to appreciate his attitude to life. If anyone in the footy world deserves a break, it's him.

  7. Eddie is 100% correct. If all members want a refund because they are not getting access to games, then find a new sport to follow, because the AFL won't be anything like it was when you're done

  8. Everyone loses something in this pandemic. There is no escape for the economic consequences. In the big picture cost of membership is no big deal. A refund won’t go very far. I’ll still pay mine, games or no games. I see it as an investment for the future return of the game.

  9. I remember hearing a story years ago. Don’t know if it’s true or not but the Fidge brothers were going to a fancy dress party. Dressed up as Batman and Robin. Stopped at a drive through bottleshop on the way and ended up in a punch on with another group of blokes in the drive through dressed as Batman and Robin.

  12. such a stupid statement........so judgemental and ignorant of other people's situation. some may have forked out 1,000s for a family. not your usual standard adc

  13. And yet some in the media believed it was all an overreaction and just a flu, e.g. Jones and Bolt. Not defending the media at all (they are vultures), but the numbers coming out of Europe and the disaster currently unfolding in USA, particulary NYC, would indicate it is way too early for us to believe a couple of flattening days are an indicator that we are exempt from the worst of it. Not that I'm saying you necessarily believe this

  14. I agree. Also, if you paid your money at the time, you had the money for a membership. By not attending games, you are now potentially also saving money. No expensive food, beers and the cost of travel. I understand people are now in need of money, but for those that are requesting a refund, it’s kind of like buying an item and then realising you want the money for something else and asking for it back. It’s not the club’s fault that they can’t offer you a game. Stick with them. The money was gone long before this hit. If you are on a monthly payment, I can understand if you asked for a 3 month suspension of the deduction, that is reasonable.

  15. that's totally up to the individuals themselves and for their reasons whatever they may be and it's not up to others to even question their reasons for doing so or pass any judgement i''ll probably leave mine there, though it doesn't add up to much

  19. I at first mis-read the title of this thread. Thought it said "Cats members expect a refund", which I thought would be a bit rich given they have a new stadium they need to pay for.

  20. All he had to say was "yes, but we would prefer you didnt ask" or "No, but we would prefer you didnt ask" Instead he was a smart [censored] once again. Bloke is unable to control his temper.

  21. I don't see what the issue is here. Aside from going into a legal argument about how much of a refund members were entitled to, Eddie was on a hiding to nothing with this line of questioning.

  25. Happy we are aligning with Casey, it has been beneficial for us. For a home base, we'll see what happens. The situation has changed for everyone, at least in the short term. As for other sports, the AFL is in the most secure position of all the national football codes. The other codes were already struggling and don't have the future financial ability to gain lines of credit to tide it over. Happy we are aligning with Casey, it has been beneficial for us. 26. I liked Nathan Carroll. He was undersized and fought like hell against the big forwards. HE was also a legitimate Dumbass off the field. What's not to love?

  27. I regret to inform those that have taken out a Life & Annual Membership with Demonland that as of the 1st of April you will see the return of Advertisements on Demonland for at least one month. Not having any footy has severely cut down our visitor numbers for this time of year and has had an huge impact on our revenue stream to pay for the costs of running the site. I know that everyone has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and that is why I’m not asking anyone for assistance or passing the hat around. The return of Ads should hopefully cover the costs If any Life or Annual Members would like a refund I will happily provide it. Please let me know here or via PM and I will arrange it I apologise for the inconvenience and the annoyance of having the advertisements back temporarily but I assure you that in time they will disappear again. I will reevaluate in a months time. As a Life and Annual Member you will still have the following benefits. Life: As an added bonus Life Members can change their Display Name once every month as opposed to once every year, they have a higher storage quota of messages within the Private Message system, they have a higher storage capacity for attachments and they can edit posts up to 4 hours after postings instead of 1 hour. Annual: As an added bonus Annual Members can change their Display Name once every 100 days as opposed to once every year, they have a higher storage quota of messages within the Private Message system, they have a higher storage capacity for attachments and they can edit posts up to 2 hours after postings instead of 1 hour. Thank you for your understanding. Andy

  37. Great post. Marcus Seecamp was a player who I would love in our side now. Solidly built half-back who would run through a bus crash to defend a team mate. Hard as woodpeckerlips. A 195cm player who measured 185cm in height.

  39. my criteria is nobody bringing up his name in the 3 or 4 yrs ive been lurking and posting. Marcus Seecamp is another, not obscure, but i think im the only one ive ever seen bring him up! i think it was a convo with you Rod about bringing in some muscle to stand up to opposition belting Gawn behind play.

  41. Ray Groom - premier of Tasmania (was given 31 after RDB left) Tony Thiessen - played a blinder at CHF at the MCG in one game (I think against Fitzroy) in the early 60s and then no more Owen Zinko - the great hope of his time Alastair Clarkson, Antony MacDonald and Stephen Powell - the best front running, left footed goal scorers from 2000 complementing Shane Woewodin (definitely not obscure) Russell Richards - a true rhino who couldn't conform to RDB disciplined playing style but at his best could be an AVB on steroids Simon Godfrey - like the duracell bunny who never stopped running to make position but who was constantly ignored (sometimes because he ran to the wrong spot but at least he ran to make position when others merely waved their arms) Maurie Bartlett - man mountain who was still huge 40 years later but worn down by a labouring life Doug Koop and Dean Chiron - journeymen footballers who became indispensable members of the 1987 finals campaign David Flintoff - Garry's cousin?

  44. Jeff Hilton was one of my favorites 'had potential' type players for a bit and was good for a bit of bash, crash and snagging a sneaky goal here or there. He had games where he would really turn it on, get off the chain and play like a champion.

  46. I'm with you. If the players weren't switched on that is an indictment. A bit like rd 23 2017 when we had to beat a lowly Collingwood to make finals for the first time in a decade. Everything to play for but the players weren't 'switched on'. In fact they didnt lay a tackle inside the first 15mins. I am so sick of Melbourne not turning up to play. The coaching staff is on notice this season and they have fallen at the first hurdle. Yes there was an unusual circumstance but it didn't bother the Eagles. It would seem in fact (and has been pointed out elsewhere) it wasn't in this case their lack of endeavour. It was the complete failure of their game plan and ability to have any system bringing the ball into the forward line. Same old crap we have been dealing with for a decade. What doesn't help is people making lame excuses for them.
