Some of Shelley Scott’s and Kate Hore’s marking would have been considered good on a dry day let alone in the pouring rain. A lot of smart plays in general too with tapping the ball over the back and trying to keep it moving our way. Played the conditions perfectly. It’s also nice coming on this AFLW match day thread and not have the “skill level isn’t as good as the men’s comp” crowd to contend with.

Daisy playing with and organising the backs could end up being an inspired move. The Luke Hodge of the AFLW.

I don't care that there are people out there rubbishing this game. I enjoyed watching tonight. Our pressure was great. Maybe because it's just great to see Melbourne win if it's the male or female team. Plus we have some awesome players & a great leader

Just watched the second win for our Women’s team... fantastic win against the other inaugural women’s team ...the Bulldogs. Thought the standard had definitely improved last year but found this game very enjoyable to watch. Are the skills there ...not yet ...but intent & willingness...100%...What I love...the passion for the jumper...something exciting happening this season ...Go Dees !!

Great win! I've loved both games from Zanker this year. She's got a great future in this comp. Size, pace, good decision making, overhead marking and kicking; what's not to like? (You may recall the set shot goal she made last year as a teenager from 45 out on the boundary late in the 3rd against the Bulldogs.) Also liked the games of Shelley Scott, Kate Hore, Shelley Heath, Maddie Gay, Aleisha Newman, Meg Downie and Libby Birch. It's been a great start for us given the loss of three key players with season ending knee injuries before round 1 (Lauren Pearce, Katherine Smith and Shae Sloane). Add to it that Bianca Jakobsson decided to join the police force just before season start and Lily Mithen is still yet to play. The structures and game plan seem good this year. There's a clear to plan to put our leadership strength to halfback (Paxman, O’Dea and Daisy Pearce). Highlight was Zanker's contested give to Paxman for a right foot snap. Can't wait for Hore to kick straight and Newman to get some still, dry playing conditions. Sad news for Ainslie Kemp for her third long term knee injury.

I think that was the best I've seen this team play. Great intensity at the contest and controlled the ball really well in the conditions.

We were a class above the Bulldogs all night, you just love to see it. Hopefully next week we get somewhat normal weather to play in.

The secret agent had to be clever, about how he was going to get a viewing of the top secret training session, it is so classified that everyone was only told 1 hour before training on its location. I have the coaches phone tapped, the notification buzzes on my phone, I quickly listen into the phone tap, Goodwin is talking to Burgess about the training ahead, what he was saying was amazing and mind blowing, it could be so revolutionary and crazy it could change football for ever. I arrive 15 minutes before training starts I am hiding in a tree, in camouflage gear with my binoculars and my long distance listening device. The first players to arrive are Viney, Jones and petracca, after everyone arrives they all go into their huddle, I can pick up their conversation with my listening device, it's all the usual stuff that players say to each other ra ra ra nothing revolutionary there, Goodwin and all the assistant approach the group, they hold up their whiteboards with the players positions on it, the players were positioned in all different positions forwards in the backline and backmen in the forwardline, May as the deepest forward. Goodwin then gives his speech, it's all about running hard, tackling hard to hurt the opposition, busting your gut and bleeding for your teammates, he says anybody that shirks a contest is going to do 100 push-ups, he wants them to approach today's match simulation like it's a grand final, like their lives depended on it do or die. the three different groups forwards midfielder Backman all go into their own areas of the ground, they do their drills with real intensity, anyone who misses a target does a 100 push ups, I can say Tom MacDonald, Alex Neal Bullen and viney are going to have very sore chest and triceps tonight, the training drills have a heavy emphasis on Quick Ball movement, shepherding blocking and tackling your opponent and burying their head into the ground. After the drills the whole group does 5 laps of the oval, they brake up into 2 teams of 18 players, there are some Casey boys to make up the numbers, at 1 end Oscar McDonald is playing on Tom MacDonald, at the other, lever is playing on weideman. by half-time Oscar kicked 3 goals on Tom and lever kicked six on weideman, Oliver on Viney at the centre bounces was a intriguing contest, it got very heated at 1 point almost coming to blows. Suddenly someone notices me and they are coming my way it is big Greg Stafford, I get out of the tree and run for my life. I come away very impressed with Brayshaw, tracc and lever as a forward. (All parts of the story are fictitious and I mean to cause no offence to anybody)

People will get upset when "player A" is a star player that clubs will throw ridiculous money at without having to live with the consequences.

I read somewhere before the season that we had a tough start to the season with two games against premiership candidates in North and the Bulldogs. A long way to go and we are in a very tough conference but so far, so good.

Daniel Kerr had a rough summer That game was classic (was 1990 you're thinking of) Players walked off the ground arm in arm giving the supporters the finger while singing Grand Old Flag (Bennett, Grinter and Wilson being prime offenders from memory). Unfortunately they had the last laugh knocking us out of the semis one month later Collingwood was always my most hated team but Hawthorn and West Coast weren't far behind as a kid. We won the 88 Elimination Final but they knocked us out in 90, 91 and 94 and then again in 2018. I really hate the Eagles, arrogant tossers as well who always get away with the home cooked umpiring and then still have the nerve to whinge

It goes without saying that Daisy is the true champion of the league she helped create. Elise O'Dea will just become unstoppable as the benefits of professional level conditioning and preparation have their effect. I do feel a little sad that O'Dea couldn't get any of that, say, ten years ago. But my gut says she'll be around for a while yet to reap the benefits. May even play out the later years of her career as a difficult forward. But what I can't shake is the regular feeling that Karen Paxman is just that much more poised and fluent than most of what goes on around her. That collect and snap for goal sums it up - with the general skill levels still needing years to consolidate it could well have gone astray whether with finding the handle on it or get it cleanly to boot in a rush. But with Paxman, I never really doubted her kick would go through and I don't think she did either. I really enjoy the women's game because it's in red and blue, it has real meaning away from the grounds, and the variability of individual quality means the better players do stand out. But what I'm really, really looking forward to is AFLW in about 2025. We'll start to see players who were the first to really believe that AFL could be their path, back when they were 15 or 13. Girls who would have been able to say to trainers and friends and that uncle who played seven games for the Bears or whatever, "Hey, I want to be good at this, genuinely good. How about we head to the park and work on my ball drop/marking/etc." And as of now, compared to even five years ago, they're about a hundred times more likely to get a "Yeah, sure." I wholly expect Daisy to guide us to a premiership or two as a player and then do a few years of development before returning for a full Norm Smith and coaching us to another half dozen.

I know that this is not directly MFC related, but I do think it's great to see an AFL player/person come back from a pretty dire situation and making a good fist of it. Daisy and Paxman are superb. If we don't have a genuine tilt at a flag before they go there should be an inquest.

Good stuff, Shelley Scott deserved a goal, thought she had a ripper of a game up forward.

Agree 100% We paid pratically nothing for KK trade wise and the MFC knew what they were potentially up against when we signed him up. If KK had have shrugged off these concussion issues, then everyone here would be doing cart wheels. Just because the punt we took hasn't paid off, then that doesn't mean the MFC should drop KK like a hot spud. I think it's important that the club maintains support and treats injured players in a respectful manner, as they appear to be doing and personally, I that also extends to us as supporters.

I sort of believed you but at some stage i thought who was in the tree? what kind of listening devices is being used? It could have been interesting to listen into what goes on at this time of year. However l was sucked into for the majority. I didn't mind getting goaded well done. l got a giggle out of it.

Arguably the most underpaid 4 time premiership player in the modern game. When he played for us he used to work at Swan Auctions in Richmond manhandling furniture. Struggles with the demon drink cursed him. In today’s games with the right attitude he would be worth close to a million a season.

Lions were his 4th team. I saw an interview with him where he said he thought his career was over and then Matthews gave him a last chance. He said he had to play there for almost nothing the whole time he was there through 4 GF’s and 3 Premierships.

She's insane at the body. Needs to learn to control it but gee whiz. And I felt bad for her with the 50 she gave. Clearly didn't know and was trying to give the ball to the ump.

That wasn't due to solely to injuries which we are talking about at the moment, also Richmond went thru a period of crap also in the not too distant past, people on this site need to get over the woe is me type of attitude.

By sheer coincidence I happened to be in the adjoining tree to don’t make me angry and had a perfect vantage point. My highlights:- • Saty came past on his scooter, scribbled down some notes, took some pics with his Brownie and shot through the entrance to the ground heading towards the South East Freeway. Can’t wait for his comprehensive report and photographs tomorrow. • Harley Bennell walked 12 laps of the oval without breaking into a sweat and then had about a dozen shots at goal before disappearing into the change rooms. • Trac is looking ripped and in smashing form. • Stafford got don’t make me angry but he missed me. • the rain came down in buckets but training continued until the ground was totally flooded and four trainers rescued ANB and J Wagner in rubber dinghys.

The full moon was last week so there goes that hypothesis.

I reckon he is a shoe in to play the Marsh Series. We need to see how he fits into the team and these games are the perfect opportunity in close to match conditions.
