  1. GWS pretty much have to trade for pick 3 for their strategy to work for them, otherwise they wouldn’t have traded for pick 6. I’d be surprised if they aren’t most of the way to negotiating a deal with us already, but no deal will probably happen until some of the other pieces have fallen into place and the available pieces for trade are known.

  2. Not me Moonie - I've got an exclusive contract with the Demonland podcast that prevents me from appearing on other media outlets. Maybe it was my pessimistic twin, Grapewhiney?

  4. Jordon was only 17 when he joined the Club, never played footy against men, improved steadily as season progressed With both Sparrow and Nietschke, club took opportunity to build the rest of the body and educate by sitting in cosches boxes, Nietschke was an aerobic beast as a junior, hopefully injury hasn't killed this, they put 5kg on his frame upto end of season Jordon would be my pick

  6. Wrong. Played a few senior footy at my home club in Yarrawonga including the elimination final in 2018. Same club that has included former AFL players like Brendan Fevola, Steve McKee, Tim Hargraves and Jason Wild who have all played there.. The ovens and Murray is regarded as one of the best leagues just below VFL level. A tough and free flowing standard. Young Jimmy is well known to our family as he grew up and played rep footy with my little brother. But they are also close friends. My brother and James were out last Saturday night on the [censored] together.

  8. Any player that has kicked 8 goals in a game of footy whom you can get for close to minimum chips should be warranting some careful consideration over the next 48 hours Particularly for a side that has one of the worst forward lines in the league

  9. Considering the club went out to trade in another best 22 wingers doesn’t fill me with confidence about how they rate his chances of recovery. I hope I’m wrong for Kade’s sake.

  10. Maybe many deals are already done and the AFL is waiting to drip feed them out in the next 48 hours to reach some 'excitement' during their live forecast on Wed evening. Altho 'excitement' and the commentators (Damian Barrett, Terry Wallace, Kane Cornes) seems an oxymoron!! It will be like watching paint dry with a drone in the background!!

  11. I feel like our administration and coaches are really over rating our forward line. McDonald - 1 good year Weid - 3-4 good games Melksham - solid but no star Trac - developing into a good player but poor set shot Fritsch - could be a gun but still has a way to go Hannan/Vanders - both injury prone Petty - still very young I just don't understand how we aren't looking at someone like Jenkins.

  12. Would be happy with a Stephens and Weightman combo. The two paragraphs I've read and the zero footage I've seen of them sounds promising.

  13. This is the only acceptable trade of picks I would accept (providing a needed Player isn't involved). We shouldn't bend over to be nice. We're holding all the cards.

  14. I would only split it with GWS and only if their pick 6 is involved. We need to remain in the top 10 of the draft. It’s been a while since we’ve had a top 10 pick and it hopefully will be a while again. Our list is at risk of becoming unbalanced with age. We need to keep topping up with real quality in the bottom age bracket. Ideally GWS’ desperation for pick 3 helps us win the deal by getting a quality youngster as well. Then I think it’s a win win.

  15. EAD St Kilda. By the way they've been talking about it you'd have thought he was already living at Moorabin. Seeing their meltdown on BigFooty is pure gold.

  16. So our leading goal kicker kicked 22 goals this year and we prioritise other positions to trade in. Our number 1 forward is now constantly getting injured and our number 2 is still establishing himself at suburban footy grounds when not injured. That’s why Mahoney and Co get paid the big bucks and us posters have no idea, right?

  17. Good on him. Who knows if the AFL helped with this, but I thought the way the Saints talked about getting him next year was unprofessional and arrogant. I'm stoked they won't get him next year and will have to pay up massively to get him out of his contract if that does come to pass.

  18. Just watched the highlights package on the MFC website - he’s always sprinting, looks unreal. Wish we could’ve landed two of him. He could actually be the blue print for Jayden Hunt (on the other wing). Over to you Mr Burgess.

  22. This is one of those 'high risk, high reward' trades that some people complain we never do. If it comes off, we've gained a gun player as the steak knives in the May trade. If it doesn't, people criticise the risky trade and bemoan us not taking a safer route.

  23. Mormon, Christian, Latter day Saints? I had no idea, thought he could be mercenary though.

  24. Because the Giants won't use pick 3 on him, the whole purpose of trading for a pick before a bid is so they can add another young talent (Young, Serong, whoever) and Tom Green. Most likely if we do trade pick 3, Adelaide will bid for Green at 4. Giants then need to come up with 80% of 2034 which equals 1627 point or the rough equivalent of pick 7. They only have 40, 59 and 60 at the moment that is worth any points and that only equals 733. They roughly need another 900 points (approx pick 20) to get the required points to match the bid for Green. In summary, Giants still need to acquire more picks/points to achieve this.

  25. We have 2 close mates from SA. I wonder if they could be offered together to go home to Port, for Howard, who at 199 cms could help cover the loss of Frost and also the shortage of key forwards.

  27. I'm a big fan of Sparrow. Has a real burst that we might not see at senior level until he has the tank to play more midfield, but once he does it will be a real asset to our mix of mids. Tough and competitive by nature, but with a burst of speed.

  28. I think Sparrow showed a bit as well until he got injured. But Jordon definitely looks like he could be a late bloomer and could be a steal if he comes on.

  30. 2018: Oliver wins contested ball and fires out a pinpoint accurate handball to a running Harmes who doesn’t break stride and instinctively every player breaks hard. 2019; Oliver wins contested ball and handballs to Harmes knees who fumbles a handball to Brayshaw’s feet who under pressure turns it over. While the whole team second guesses do I break or defend? Too late turn over, flat footed witches hats look like amateurs. Rubbish game plan ect ect. Improve the basic skills over the preseason will turn the ship. But if we don’t, running machines will do little to improve us.

  31. Agree. It would probably be something like 3 & 50 for 6 & 11, as GWS would need some additional points. But that would be a great draft hand to go 6, 11 & 26 at the draft.

  33. It is great for the AFL. But also for all the clubs in it. It is super important for suns and giants to be successful. Too much investment already anfms in rbe future for it to fail. A good sign king commiting. No doubt they are selling to a bunch of really talented young men that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of group that saves and builds an AFL club. Really if they can get the culture right it the gc is a beaut place to live for a young fella focused on being an elite athlete (not so great for elite party heads - boring as bat [censored]). Warm all year round, fantastic beaches um fantsstic beaches. Did i mention the weather?

  34. Bont , Stephen Hill, Paddy Cripps Clarrie, Trac and Stephenson weren't rated to go high a year out from their draft John Butcher, was predicted to go top 3 a year out from his draft At least half a dozen will bob up from the fringes to top 25 in the next 12 months who won't be academy or father son

  35. I strongly disagree with this. The reason he kept getting games was because the disposals he was getting were high value. In 2018, he averaged 12.2 disposals and 5.2 score involvements. That's 414th for average disposals but 134th for score involvements, which indicates reach of his disposals was much more likely to contribute to us scoring than your average player. My impression of Spargo was that he was regularly "creating value": a clever knock to advantage, changing lanes to get us clear, finding a man in space instead of taking the first option. I wanted to see him get 20 touches instead of 12, to be truly damaging. But I thought there was enough clever stuff there to give him time.

  36. I haven't followed the draft super closely this year, didn't expect I'd need to, classic MFC stitch up, but from what I've read about the probable order etc it feels like the type of players we need more aren't expected to go at pick 3, so wouldn't it make more sense to split it? I know 'best available' is the old tune, but 1 x best available vs 2 x best fit makes it not so clear surely? Instead of ending up with another inside mid type, or more depth at the defensive end, we could possibly split pick 3 and end up scoring say Stephens, Weightman and then Pickett (2nd round), which could totally change our dynamic going forward. Is that a genuine possibility?

  39. The irony is that in fact we are far from a basket case. Our board is as stable and solid as it has been in decades. An internal review has seen significant change carried out in a professional, measured fashion, tge exec is solid as is fd. No players wanted out. And one again mahoney has been a total pro at trade time and achieved most of its stated aims wirh a minimum of fuss. You want a basket case look at the crows atm. Despite their wealth and resources they are a mess, with players wanting out, coach quitting before being pushed and key personnel being sacked during the trade period when they are trying to retain and attract players. On a related note where do the posters who so vociferously pushed the mfc in crisis line a couple of months back stand atm?. You know the ones who warned of player dissatisfaction, players wanting out, (gleefully) supported false rumours about goody being sacked, jumped on Barrera silly comments about sliding doors and meetings wirh tge afl, pointed out the coaching and fd changes as evidence of crisis (whilst also arguing changes had to be made) and warned no players would want to come to us.

  45. Your opinion. Why do you think Roos was so critical of the "veil of negativity" surrounding Melbourne? Because it, and the feedback from members, has a demotivating effect on the club and he realised the whole club from the members up had to get over it. But we haven't and it's back bigger than ever. If what is posted on here has very little effect on how the club performs, which is probably true, why do we have so many on here who think that making bold and sometimes aggressive statements here about not "accepting mediocrity" and complaining ad infinitum will actually have an effect? You can't have it both ways. It's a waste of breath and keyboard strokes, and really just boils down to whingeing, which has no constructive purpose whatsoever.

  46. This time last year he was tweeting comments about how good our on-ball brigade were and picked us to finish top 5. Fast forward 12 months and on Trading Day he said that we managed to 'fluke' a preliminary final last year. I'm glad David King didn't let the comment pass without rebuttal- He replied that side's don't fluke their way to a preliminary final. Quite frankly it was a ridiculous comment that reflects a superficial understanding and analysis of the game. I think Ralph like a few of his media commentator fraternity are a little salty that we embarassed their season predictions.
