  1. Frost's 2019 looks better than it really was because the side around him was so poor. He's not worth what he's asking for. The reports suggest Frost is asking for more money than we're prepared to pay him, so we've let him talk to other clubs and are prepared to let him go. I completely understand the club's call. Arguments that we should keep him because of his pace are misguided IMO. Yes, teams need foot speed, but not from their key defenders. How many key defenders also play the dash off half back role? We need to plan our list for our next premiership, not for more seasons of 2019-level rubbish. Arguing that we should keep Frost because May and Lever might get injured again isn't, IMO, a smart approach to list management. Edit: forgot the argument I find the worst of them all: the argument that if Clarkson wants him then he must be good. Clarkson might be a stunning coach but he also traded in Vickery, Fitzpatrick and O'Rourke, all of whom stunk. Really such a dumb argument.

  2. https://www.sen.com.au/programs/sen-breakfast/ If you click on the link you should be about see the podcast of the interview. Very interesting insight. The feeling I got was that there has been reports that Goody can be quite stubborn, yet apparently according to Goody this is one of his strengths in taking feedback and open to everyone's ideas. The big one that pricked my ears also was towards the end he was asked who was the best leader at the football club. He said everyone was different but the 2 that stand out in terms of the alignment of the club and direction of the footy club for the future was Max Gawn and Jack Viney.

  3. Many on here don't rate Viney's leadership qualities so it is good to hear from someone that would actually know thanks for posting DD

  4. He definitely didn't give me that impression at all. Seemed extremely humble on his time at the Dees and didn't have a bad word to say about anyone at the club. I find the irony amusing that most of your posts are closer to your description of Brendan.

  5. I have done some work with Ash through the bushies. He is a quality kid and shows traits of being a very good player of the future. I am also bias and hope that he has a successful career. I will put my neutral hat on and say that I would have Young ahead of Ash. While Ash provides speed and dash, his kicking at times can become unstuck because he is always running million miles an hour. I am not saying he is a poor kick, solid around ground when chipping it around, but i just feel that when the heat and pressure is on and intensity lifts once he will be in the AFL system, this could expose him even more. Played the back end of the year in the midfield and rack up your 20 to 25 possessions but i still felt the body of work as n on baller just wasn't there. Think of Shaun Atley. Young in my opinion is one of the best users of the footy in the draft. Absolute sublime with his ability to bullet low 40m passes on both sides of his body. Yes he is genuinely a duel sided player with both feet. Plays his best footy across half back as the quarter back who will sit out the back of the stoppage and wait for the handball receive to then set up a counter attack with his foot skills, but also his intercept marking is exceptionally well. Had stints as a midfielder after the championships and showed that he has the ability to push up into the midfield as a genuine wingman who could deliver with poise inside 50. Honestly you just want the ball in this kids hands at every opportunity because he uses it so well. So in all of that I would take Young ahead of Ash. Dont be surprised if Ash slides to the point thay he could drop out of top 10 calculations.

  7. I'm glad I heard this interview. It certainly makes a mockery of all of the doomers and gloomers on this site who refused to acknowledge the injury toll, who kept inventing all kinds of conspiracy theories about the players and the coaches and the training staff.

  8. Agree on all points. I spoke to Frosty at the GF and he seemed very genuine is his comments that he wanted to stay with the Demons. Yes, I know, he was speaking to a stranger and that is what you would expect him to say. However, he seemed very genuine. If the choice was between May, Oscar and Frosty, I would pick Frost. May comes for the money, turns up overweight and quickly runs into injury problems. He bawls out Frosty in a match, a terrible look, something best left to a private space. Not leadership, simply hot tempered and belittling. The most improved bloke in the second half of the season is not wanted over three aging injury prone players or a bloke who has shown no improvement since his first game. My other concern is the way the club has managed the Frost discussion. Lever comes out several weeks ago and comments on the defenders but does not speak of Frost. Poor form. The club then appears to be mute on Frosty's future. Nothing appears to be have been said to Frosty. He is kept in the dark. For God's sake, as a matter of good people management and decency, the coach could at least speak to Frosty and tell him that he does not fit into his plans for 2020 and that he will not be offered a contract etc. Or if he is offered a contract that it will be a low offer A bit like Watts, the club does not appear to have talked to the player. If this is true, its poor player management. At least have the honesty and decency to be upfront with the player. It may be a dog eat dog market, but the coach and the club should have some guts and show some decency and respect to the player. It sends a bad message to other players and is not the way to foster team morale. Is this the way Richmond would have acted ? As per Max Gawn's comments, perhaps only some of the players are brothers.

  9. Sorry Kids, if that is your real name, many of us don't give a rats about the last 55 years and instead live in the present and the changes and improvements to be had in 2020. Sitting behind a keyboard using a silly name to take pot shots at a well respected senior coaching figure is not demanding better.

  11. I heard the interview and he was more referring to the prelim, West Coast were red hot and we were pretty much done the week before. He stated Hawks could have got us had they taken some of their chances. He wasn't referring to the season overall

  12. I remember when Shaun Mckernan kicked 4 on Sam Frost at the start of the year.. That was funny.. Jack Darling also kicked 4 on Frost in Darwin. Josh Kennedy bagged 4 goals straight against Frost in round 9 this year. Same Josh Kennedy that kicked another 4 against old Frost balls in the prelim last year. After that performance, it was exact reason why club went after Steven May. Yep. Frosty sure did destroy Kennedy........

  14. Thanks for the appraisal, Mr poster-who-joined-all-the-way-back-in-March-this-year. The forum is actually made up of many types, but a lot of the quality, nuanced analysis has disappeared this year amid the mountain of identical threads that are nothing but variations of "I'm sick of watching us lose / not win / other teams win etc etc" It's a shame because there are some excellent posters whose commentary is well worth reading, but some of them have run for the hills and others are posting a lot less frequently.

  17. I disagree completely. Several years of linear improvement and a prelim with one terrible year seems like a pretty good result if you ask me. You may as well sack everyone in the club if you want to apply that logic.

  18. We will miss Lewis' leadership. Totally agree that May and Lever are our best bet for on-field leadership. Viney needs the help and I hope he accepts it. As an aside, I'm increasingly impressed with Oliver's on-field direction of team mates (excepting the public spray he gave Fritsch). He has a good footy brain and his public speaking is very good for his age. Very good speech at the bnf, one of the few that thanked people. Wouldn't mind him as captain in about 4-5 years.

  20. Ah right, we're doing the hypotheticals, yes? If May, Lever, Oscar, Jetta, Hibberd, Salem, Petty, Tom Mac, Weideman, Gawn, Oliver and Joel Smith were all injured, I'd hate to see what would happen with Viney on Brown. Am I doing it right?

  21. Meanwhile, Wallace believes four teams are leading the race for the premiership. “The sides that I’m most confident of going into 2019 at the moment are Melbourne, Richmond, West Coast and Collingwood,” Wallace said. “Those four are in and good luck to the rest of the boys, you’re fighting for the other spots.” AFL legend Terry Wallace outlines teams that will improve, sink and swim in 2019

  24. Brown kicked 2 goals 3 behinds from 17 disp as a key forward. Inaccurate, yes. But hardly "shut down". In a 5 point margin game, I'd say 2g 3b proved to be very handy Just my view.

  34. We had that for the last 3 years in Lewis though people like TGR see absolutely no benefit in the club taking him on when clearly that was identified by Roos as being a big void. I think May and Lever are 2 who identify issues on field and try to address them

  36. I think Frost wants to go to a team where is guaranteed first team football. We do not rate him as a guaranteed starter after 4 years at the club - he has struggled to hold down a spot in a mostly average team. Hawks need key defenders and will give him more money and a longer contract you would imagine so it makes sense for him to move. We need a consistent defence that can play a system and not turn the ball over. With Lever, May, Jetta, Hore and Salem we have a good core group. we just need to add some youth to the HF line. I personally have no problem with him leaving. The media will pump up the hawks and the trade like they did with us last year - saying we are favourites for the flag. a crazy notion when we just made the finals.

  37. Why would Essendon want pick 3 any more than we do?
    4 points
  38. I reckon we'll really regret this. Our backline is brittle and small apart from May. Jetta is awesome but getting on. How much longer can we keep playing him on bigger blokes and continue to see him crunched? Lever and May, will they be fit? Oscar? Pfft Lockhart is good but small. Frost has improved every year. The game is getting faster and faster. He's got great closing speed. He wasn't used enough last year for kick ins and breaking lines. He's our second big backman and he's off. Roos built our team from the backline up. It's looking shaky and Tomlinson ain't going to fix it.

  40. Well if he was offered a contract that wasn't worth much and another club had offered him a great deal more what is he supposed to do? What would you do? The offer from Hawthorn didn't necessarily come late in the season either. A lot of assumptions being made here and the reality is that all things are possible. My guess is that the Hawks have good relationships with lots of player managers and then act accordingly. The hate for Frost is over the top too. The bloke is trying his best and is probably still a better player than at least half our list. And he gets on the park and the coach keeps putting him into the 22. Or did so previously. I wish him well.

  44. Petty, Tomlinson. And O'Mac will be fine - with a full pre-season under his belt.
    3 points
  45. So we should pay ‘overs’ for Frost in case our other backs all have a similar injury riddled season like this season just gone? Because that’s what it’s going to take to re-sign him. Then what happens next season when we have multiple required players we want to extend or re-sign? Frost is not worth potentially losing out on those players or bringing in others via trade. I think the keep Frost camp need to look at the bigger picture.

  46. Would’ve liked to have seen us retain Frost, but not on his terms. I reckon we’ll be okay.
    3 points
  47. That's not correct IMO. We have a very talented list and most of it is under 25. We had a shocking year in 2019 but that was the aberration. A fit list with an extra year and a good preseason, add a bit of Langdon and Tomlinson, one of KK or VDB and we will be right back in the thick of the action.

  48. I don't think Jetta and Hibberd are long term, whether or not Frost goes.

  49. Trac had a good season, but for his talent and ability, I’m sorry if this sounds harsh but we need better than good. We need him to be outstanding if 2020 is to get us back in the premiership conversation. We need him, Oliver, and Brayshaw to be a triple threat of stars that have opposition coaches thinking “how do we stop them”. They each have that in them.
