  1. Couldn’t stand him when he played for Gold Coast. Think he’s a bloody legend now. Funny how that happens.

  2. There's no doubt May would have taken notice of the way we play footy and part of the attraction in coming to us would be to play alongside some the other tough and uncompromising types we have on our list. Anyone watching us against Geelong and the way our youngsters made Selwood, Ablett and Dangerfield earn every touch would have been impressed. None of our young guys back away from heat. May and Pruess will not only make us walk even taller, but they'll walk taller themselves. We now have the toughest side in the comp. Of that I'm sure and oppo sides won't like it.

  3. Totally agree. We now have an almost perfectly calibrated list. Injuries permitting, and assuming a good pre-season (no Adelaide-esque hiccups), we should be a lock for the top 4 next year. I continue to be super impressed with Mahoney, Viney and Taylor. The upgrading of the picks to secure two in the 20s was the icing on this trade period - did not see that coming, but shook my head in stunned satisfaction that they are just not missing a trick these days. The MFC is oozing competence at the moment.

  4. Talk of Round 1 Pies v Dee’s on Friday night as a blockbuster. Reported in the press a month or two ago.

  5. Let's not forget that a captain of another club has joined the Dees. When did that last happen ? Was Ditterich captain when he came to the Dees ? This is significant. Don't underestimate the calibre of people we're bringing in. Tough bastard too.

  6. I vaguely remember roosu saying something similar in his meeting with goody, it was mostly about culture and so on rather than just football. I think we are onto a winner with goody

  7. He's 190cm and they see him as a wing/half-back runner with his accurate left foot. Mahoney said this morning he'll become part of the midfield rotation.

  8. Just read his interview on the club website and im more pumped than ever to get him in. He has already spoken to Lever and it sounds like he cant wait to get stuck in again. On a side note, this is the quote that most stood out......... “I’ve never even played in a Friday night game, let alone a final, so I’m just looking forward to being part of it.” How The actual [censored] is that possible for a player who has been on the field 120 or so times. I, and others, will miss Hogan, but i have a feeling this bloke will bring something that helps us all cope with the loss.

  9. I think where I differ from some is that I view the trade period as a tool not a competition. I feel it is where you go to make your team better to facilitate player movement that may be beyond your control but with the ultimate aim to come away a better team than you enter the trade period. I think if each trade is viewed as a competition the risk is potentially missing out on the ultimate goal of becoming a better team. We would all like to win every trade but sometimes we need to step back and see the big picture. Ask some questions, will this help us to make our team better? Is it the best we can do now? If yes do it.

  10. Spoke very well on the Trade Table show: very genuine, said he knew he only wanted to join the demons after he met Goody. Admitted his career has plateaued recently and he needs a change used hibbo and melksham as examples of us developing players from other clubs.

  11. He just did a live cross for The Trade Table on Ch.9 - must admit that I was pleasantly surprised with his attitude towards the trade. Seems like he feels the need to prove himself all over again which is healthy. He's a massive wrap on Goody - sounds like a sit down with him is what convinced him to come to the MFC

  12. Nobody reaches their potential at the Suns. Must be a horrible place to play footy. A graveyard for draftees, like us from 2007-2013. Brendan McCartney will be drooling over this kid.. as in what he will be able to do with him footy wise, not literally drooling on him.

  14. I'm not disputing that Hogan is a great player. His last game for us this year was the loss vs Sydney, after that with TMac and Weed as key forwards we went on a four game winning streak against top 8 sides - WC in Perth scoring 108, GWS 102, Geelong 75 in a low scoring match and Hawthorn 104. I don't think Hogan would have made any difference in the PF. I think there's a fair body of evidence there that the forward line is not a glaring weakness.

  15. Either he doesn't like the Lions or he fires up for big rivalry games. Can't wait to see him front up to Lynch Anzac Eve

  17. You'll be disappointed when he starts round 1 and starts in the team all year then.

  18. It basically makes kade a free hit the way the trade played out. And this kid has absolute A grade talent and potential. I think a bit like Gus his confidence putting his head over it has taken a hit due to concussions but they’ll be able to support each other and I’m super confident it’ll be a bargain pick up for us.

  19. Loved that interview so much. Admitted that he had stagnated and hadn't got as much out of his career so far but owned up to it. I can see him having an awesome pre season and catapulting us into the top 4 next year. Best believe it D'landers... this is our time.

  21. May just gave Goodwin a huge tick. Said he'd never spoken to us or even considered us until he had a hat with Goodwin at the end of the season. Loved that Goodwin was all about what the club can do to help him get the most from his game and the values they are trying to hold in the playing group.

  22. Very happy to have Kade on board. Long & gangly, covers the ground very well, long penetrating kick. Will break lines and gain a lot of metres for us.

  23. That's the most disappointing nickname attempt since someone here tried to start calling Trac 'Petraccattack'.

  24. Lever and May into our backline from the team that played finals, yes please.

  25. I like this line in the MFC release just emailed to me: "The addition of Kolodjashnij will enhance Melbourne’s transition play from the backline, while defender May is one the biggest names switching clubs this off-season." I haven't checked, but I suspect Kolodjashnij will have been the biggest name, while May will likely have been the shortest.

  26. The big effect of playing two true ruckman is not just that one of them might play forward but that our two genuine KPFs won't be spending time as bit-part ruckmen. That means McDonald and Weideman will be in the forward line together for much longer periods not just because they won't be up the ground rucking but because they won't need to spend as much time off the ground to give them the energy needed to run all around the ground as the second ruckman.

  27. Mahoney doesn't seem like the type to waste his time on pointless games. We could have played harder at the trade table & had an unhappy Hogan with us next season. As you say winning a flag is hard, too hard to be carrying a kid who is going through a lot & doesn't want to be there. I'm not sure he is very clear on what he wants but that's for Ross to sort out now. As an aside, it's going to be interesting to see how Geelong go with Tim Kelly. They played it hard & the coach even called him out as being as a Scully. I have a feeling that it might all end in tears.

  28. Love this trade. Pre-concussions he was on his way to becoming an All Australian level half back flanker. He was a gun. If he can keep himself healthy and get past the concussion issues like Brayshaw has, then we’ve just found the wingman we’ve been missing for the past few years. Perfect size at 190cms, has pace, agility, and elite kicking skills. Very similar in size and attributes to Isaac Smith at the Hawks. He could turn out to be the bargain of this whole trade period. We should be thrilled to see what he can produce in red and blue!

  29. Here's why I wouldn't worry so much. 1. We have a guy for Hogan's best spot - a guy who really stole it this year in T Mc. He's the CHF of our side. 2. The full forward role Hogan often played this year can be covered by Weid. Who has shown - maybe not enough but he has done it - a few really nice things: A) An ability to beat up on bad teams on the rare occasions he got great supply at Casey. In his first year he had a couple of 4 goal games, a couple of 3's. In an interrupted second year he had a game where he kicked 6. And last year at Casey in 10 games he had a 7 a 5 and a 4. B) The ability to go in to the ruck C). A growing inclination to tackle and pressure It's too hard to be a reliable full forward these days and consistently take marks and kick goals. The better player to have in that 2nd tall role is one who can kick some goals on their day but contributes in other ways. 3. We have multiple players capable of beating one on one match ups deep - Petracca, Melksham, Hannan. These are often the guys you want inside 50 now. It's the balance of options and roles that not only covers the loss of Hogan but makes us better due to versatility and match ups.

  30. May played as a forward as a Junior. Petty also has played forward. Joel Smith will be tried forward. We also have Hannan, VDB and Fritsch as forwards who can play tall. Max can rest forward. Preuss is no worse than Cox and could play patches up forward. Last resort we have Tim Smith who could fill in.

  31. Im making a bold bold prediction here.. but i wouldn't be surprised if he comes back to the club again one day.. Has signed for 3 years, and still quite close with alot the boys. Success of the dees and enough time to heal his hurt from the family tragedy will get his heart string pulling back to Melbourne again. I think reality will hit him sometime over the next few years just how good he had it at the dees.

  34. Yesterday I shared a tram with the President of the East Melbourne Group on his way to VCAT! Now he professes to be a MFC supporter (but I think that he is too tight to take out a membership) so I was happy for him to ask me what I thought about the proposed training facility. I am right behind this project (and have lived in East Melbourne for twice as long as he has) and I told him that I felt that it would be great for the local community as an asset and the football public. It came as no surprise to hear that he is against it (as he is a classic NIMBY and opposes everything) so I suspect that I may have to re-enter local politics and try and prevent their opposition. Any other East Melbourne residents on Demonland happy to put together a ticket to take over the East Melbourne Group?
