  1. First ever post. Born 64 and grew up going to the G with the old man and brothers leaving at three quarter time during the stock standard flogging when he would say, "may as well get out of the carpark while we can boys!". This makes me happy!

  3. What a mammoth effort in the last. When they got in front we hunkered down and got the job done. I am so proud of the players, the club and everyone involved. Enjoy it everyone, we have earned it! And I still firmly believe that we are a big, big chance to cause some havoc in September!!

  4. So many times Goodwin goes on about learning, and taking opportunities to grow, etc. etc. Not just hot air, and we saw today what it means. More than anything, what impressed me today was that for the first time we started to show what we've so often sorely missed: maturity.

  6. Let me tell you a story. Last week, when I got home from the Sydney game, I had a most bittersweet moment. I’ve been teaching my 3.5 yo twin girls about footy and the Dees. They haven’t been to a match yet (wouldn’t last a quarter!), but I take them to watch the local Girls’ team and the Thirds play at our local EFL ground. They call out and point to anyone playing footy ‘look daddy there’s a demon!’. They know we like red and blue. They can pick out the Dees mascot in their toddler AFL book. The brainwashing is working. And they know about 75% of ‘grand old flag’. Anyway, when I was leaving the G last week in a [censored] rage, I made the obligatory text to my non-football-loving lady that I was on my way home. Without caring to check if we had won or not, she had a ‘grand old flag’ singalong with the girls queued up for when I walked through the door, complete with flags and scarves. I smiled , shook my head and said maybe we should save it for the next win. I’d gotten 2 new flags for the girls but left them bitterly in the boot of the car. Their smiling faces beneath their Dees beanies just ripped my bloody heart out; as much as the club had an hour earlier. It took every ounce of mindfulness to enjoy the moment for what it was, albeit gut wrenching. Today, the girls were obliviously playing elsewhere as I watched us forge a win to get us into finals for the first time in 12 years. A third of my lifetime. Once Kent kicked that goal, I got the flags from the boot of the car, put the girls beanies on and made them watch the dying minutes. We danced around the coffee table, waving flags, me choking back tears and the girls loudly singing ‘grand old flag’ on its 14th repeat. And they knew all the words. The future is bright, people. ❤️?

  10. The strength we showed when they took the lead is precisely what we have failed to do this year. And against the 2nd placed side on the road, in the heat. A fantastic win.

  14. My wife and her sister are shaving their head next week for cancer, she has raised a bit of money with her sister to honour the loss of their Mum 20 years ago. It’s happening next Sunday. I was missing the Giants game to be with them, I have just had an argument to which the last comment my wife said was lYou are going to the game, this conversation is over. Over!” I love my wife.

  19. Well here we are once again folks, destiny in our hands, hostile territory, pressure turned up to a million. This could very well be the making of this team, or it could be just another moment when we fold like we have done so many times before. If we’re looking for omens, wifey and I palmed off the little ones to my parents for the weekend and we went out to see the new mission impossible last night (ripping good fun by the way). On the way out I spied one of those skill testers. This was the skill tester of oversized variety with a mega claw and giant stuffed animals in it. Fancying myself as pretty skillfull, I dropped my $2 into the machine which bought just once chance! Sent the claw into action, positioned it over the toy I was after (yes I’m a fully grown man going after a giant stuffed toy like it was a powertool, what of it!), hit the button while the wife was trying to give directions (which I was successfully ignoring), and bam the claw wrapped its mechanical force around a giant Skye dog from Paw Patrol and dropped it neatly into the chute! It was clinical, it was a result against the odds, it was a rare display of high level skill from yours truely. If we think of myself as the team today and my kids elation when they see their new toy as the members, then that is all the omens I need, to know that today we win, and win handsomely. GO DEMONS, DAMN THOSE DRUG TAKING HEATHENS TO THE FIRES OF HELL AND RISE, RISE RISE TO MEET THE GLORY OF FINALS FOOTBALL THE TEAM OF THE RED AND THE BLUE!!!

  20. Oh man. Oh man. I have honestly needed the last 2 hours to come down. I reckon I came as close as a 33 year old male could come to a cardiac arrest in those dying stages. There were some people on here who picked it and were fully confident, I want to thank you guys because you had confidence I just didn’t have and your enthusiasm should not be under appreciated. I said before the game it felt like we were walking the plank. Where do you start with the performance? I thought we were outstanding right from the get go. We had moments where we lacked polish and probably could have nailed more chances but I couldn’t give a stuff about those right now. One thing we had was our effort which we brought 100% for nearly 100% of the game. I said in the game day thread that it just had this feeling that a club like West Coast would end up taking over because clubs like that win this games and play finals and clubs like us don’t belong. Newsflash: [censored] that! WE JUST RE-WROTE THE NARRATIVE IN THE MOST EMPHATIC WAY POSSIBLE!!! Hard to pick a BOG because it was such a great team effort. But my god it was so good to have Milkshakes back. He kicks the ball like no other and something that no-one has said much before, he has great football sense. Those two times he choose to lead back out the back were genius. The midfield has one of their best collective efforts for the year, Oliver and Gus doc their thing but once again Harmes went above and beyond. That kick to Kent when we could barely deliver a ball inside was absolute mint from the plomb. Max battles all day and took some crucial grabs, he’s clearly banged up but he’s toiling on like a champion. To the backline. They were always going to have their hands full but never gave in. Hibberd makes a big difference, hopefully he’s just had some thightness. Never Jetta just delivers in crucial moments time and time again and has well and truly cemented his place as one of the leagues players of quality. Oscar did his job. Lewis went to ground a bit but when we needed the experienced head I thought he was excellent. And the rest, The moment was boiling to a climax when Kent had his shot. The image of him lining up for goal is now burned in my mind as it literally felt like 12 years were hanging on this ‘either way’ moment. And when he delivered there was a feeling that you really only get once in a blue moon. It’s hard to explain but the body language when Clarry and (Nibbler I think?) embraced Kent, man, I can’t even explain it I really can’t. There are celebrations in football but in my options there are ones that go even beyond that stuff. The closest comparison I can think of is in the 2012 grand final when Malceski kicked that snap to seal it and that particular elation that followed it from the Swans players. Im not forgetting Mitch Hannan who was outstanding. Kicked most of his chances and made contests wherever he could, he had a serious presence. AVB played the game of his life, his tackling early was a massive reason why we got a run on, hopefully he’s not in trouble for that elbow. I could go through everyone, Salem used it well when it counted, Fristch had two crucial long kicks in the last 5 mins and always gives you the calming feeling that he will use it. I am so proud of these boys and this footy club. I love you MFC so much, no matter how many disappointments games like today feel so great and erased the hurt of last week. I love each and everyone on Demonland, even the out there ones. The only people who have ever truly understood what it is like to be a Melbourne fan. I would never have it any different, being a Melbourne fan is the best ever and I don’t envy any other club’s fans one little bit. We did it people we did it! :)))))))

  27. Goodwin says it best: "I am so happy for our supporters right now...They have had 12 years of misery, but now they have a team they can really get in behind and support and build some momentum from here." I look forward to a new narrative from all the media 'experts' harping on about 'can't be trusted' and 'mentally weak'. The guys showed today, how badly they want finals. Very proud day for every demon fan.

  28. Hah. I jumped through the roof when Melksham put us back in front (geez WC would be spewing how easily he got off the chain) and nearly burst in to tears when Kent put it through. That was the biggest stress relief feeling I’ve had in many years. I love this club.

  35. A very happy day. Not quite the emotion I felt in 1987 as a 17 year old at the Western Oval but I'm thrilled for all the true believers who have maintained the faith over a very long period. I'd like to thank Paul Roos, Bernie Vince and Daniel Cross who made the decision to be a part of the rebuild of this club 5 years ago. The foundations those guys built are the bedrock of what is about to unfold.

  36. Boy, how much did we miss Melksham last week? 4 goals when the pressure was on was immense. I love him. Even though he faded a little, Weideman gave us a glimpse of what he can give us in the future. Good hands, mobile and, when he gets his kicking right, he'll slot more than his fair share of goals. Bring on GWS, let's smash them back to Sydney and then take on all comers in September!

  40. Tears for our mate Kev - a central Victorian Demon who passed away last week. Lots of tears in our group of 15 who met up at the pub to watch in Kev’s honour. Good on you Kev - got the final curse off our back, now get to work on the Norm Smith curse!

  41. I do feel a little vindicated, but I am so excited to not only play finals, but that we as a supporting collective get to enjoy it as well. So many of us have stuck fat through some of the worst football ever witnessed, and we deserve to enjoy every moment that this win brings. If we win a final, and holy hell do I hope we do, then that will be amazing, but to get this huge monkey off our back will set us superbly for the years to come. I hope you enjoy it too!

  42. I did - and so did my boy. I came to Australia for the 2006 season, my eight year old has never seen them in finals. He sobbed and I told him that this was why you stick with your team, even through all the bad times!

  43. First game where he’s consistently looked like an aerial threat. I’ve been bullish anyway because he’s shown other attributes like getting involved in linkup play and cleanliness with the ball, and he’s played a marking game in the VFL, but this is the final big tick required. I’m happy now to play the waiting game while he fills out and matures, confident in the view that he will make it as an AFL quality forward.

  44. To Saberfang and the other clowns who spent the entire week bagging the playing group, about time you all had some faith, it won't happen this year but we are heading in the right direction. Massive effort today by all and showed mental toughness when they fought to get the lead back
