  1. Considering Lewy's 300th game is likely to be a substantial talking point ahead of this weekend, I thought It'd be only right to acknowledge that his milestone will be shared by Dom Tyson, who'll notch up a century of AFL games (13 with GWS, 87 with Melbourne.) Although it hasn't been an ideal season from Dom's perspective, I'd like to take the opportunity, regardless of what happens at seasons end, to say thanks to our number 12 for his contribution so far to the red and blue!

  2. What hope do Carlton have if they are in witness protection yet Channel 7 keeps telling us where they are on Friday nights.

  3. Goodwin has shown zero interest in shuffling fringe players around from wins or narrow losses unless there was a very clear case at any stage this year - either injury or a key player returning. He values team consistency. No problem with that here.

  4. Bugg has gone a bit quite down at VFL level.. i reckon he knows his papers are stamped and is just going through the motions. I know i will be on my own here, but i honestly thought JKH wasn't even that bad last week. Hes physicality has improved alot and was a goal away from being a hero in this website. He shows good defensive pressure and was one who really tried to crack in. JKH would have felt a bit dejected knowing that probably his name was first on the chopping block, but Goodwin is backing him in and i have a good feeling he might play well this weekend.

  5. No change is fantastic. They played at a ridiculously high level for just over 3 qtrs. Keep the faith

  6. the more i think of those last 2 minutes it seemed like we played as though we were points DOWN rather than points UP fmd

  7. In amongst all the discussion from this week, this bolded part shouldn't be forgotten. We played some ripping footy on Saturday night and I'm backing this 22 in to do it again. Obviously Harmes is the doubtful one and Vanders is there to take his spot if he doesn't get up. What a story for AVB if he gets the nod after everything he's been through!

  8. The problem with the game is clearly the ball. Everyone wants to get it. That causes congestion. When it goes over the fence, we waste time getting it back, slowing the game down considerably. When it gets grubby, the umpire has to wipe it on the ground to clean it. The players chase it all over the place causing unsightly groups of players running around, detracting from the spectacle of the game. If there were no ball in the game, there'd be a much faster, free flowing game, very little congestion, far fewer free kicks to adjudicate and it would bring spectators, disheartened by the direction the game is going, back to the game. As an added bonus, it would stop Collingwood cheer squad members stealing the ball. Instead of using a ball, to score, players could just run up and down the ground touching the goal post to score a goal. Whichever team can do that the most in a certain period of time, wins the game. Why didn't someone come up with this idea sooner? I see no flaws in it.

  9. A terrific little goal sneak too. The only player in that team who doesn't struggle kicking goals from an angle.

  10. Congrats Dom. 100 games is an achievement in anyone's book. Hasn't been his best season but we're right behind him and hope he can hit his straps in this run home!

  11. I would take a half fit Vanders over some of those mentioned who have been selected this week.

  12. I agree with "selection blunders" however, disagree about JKH who is not up to playing in the AFL at the moment- witness the poor turnover kicks (one resulted in a Geelong goal), The Ablett miss tackle (Ablett did not even have the ball) that resulted in a Geelong goal and the missed goal in the last few minutes. Can't believe we did not bring in Can Pederson for this match. The Crows forward line is very tall with McGovern 190 cm, Walker 193 cm, Lynch 193 cm, Jenkins 200 cm - we will regret not picking Pederson 193 cm, to help Frost, Oscar and Smith. Smith may be OK but is a 8 game player. The Crows forward line is much taller and more experienced. We don't need JKH.

  13. Not sure which bit the experts on here don't get He had 14 disposals and 7 score involvements and 4 tackles, wasn't involved in last passage of play and yes he missed a shot at goal which all the experts on here, under the pressure he was, would pop through for a goal with aplomb

  15. Best of luck to him this weekend in his 100th. It's a shame his form has been down this year and he's become the resident whipping boy. He's taken a while to get to 100 games due to ongoing knee issues, but he's played some brilliant footy for us. His 2014 was superb, and he was one vote of winning the BnF from Jones (who was at his peak). He's definitely got the potential to play a key role for us in the future. Hopefully he has a good game this weekend and contributes to an important win!

  16. I think it is AFL head office that needs pruning. Too many highly paid executives and pseudo analysts with too much time on their hands in my opinion. Looks like a list of solutions in search of a problem!

  17. less rotations drop to 40 at least even 20 ball up as quickly as possible and ffs pay holding the ball and not allow players like Ablett an eternity to get rid of it

  18. Congrats and best of luck to Lewy on a massive milestone this weekend ! Whilst he can be somewhat of a polarising player on demonland , I’ve always been grateful that he joined our club, I think what he has provided in experience, leadership and on field coaching to our younger group has been invaluable. Well done on a stellar career and hopefully there’s at least one more finals campaign in there!!

  23. Some excellent points there Choke. I heard some fella call SEN or 3aw and say that perhaps the ratings have dropped because the commentators are so poor. Got cut off and all in the studio laughed and dismissed it/him as joke and moved on straight away. i don't think he was joking and he makes a great point. I can't stand channel 7 or Fox commentary teams or how the game is presented. Fair dinkum how someone like Breton could be paid to mangle the English language and provide zero insight is beyond a joke To your excellent list of ways they could improve Choke i'd add having expert comments from actual bloody experts, who can provide some actual analysis. Their only criteria for 'experts' seem to be ex players. Daisy is the only one who i have heard actually bring something positive to the coverage. Had to laugh in the last crows game when some wacka noted our accuracy and she pointed out it is largely due to the fact when on our game plan involves kicking many of goals from within 20 metres of the goals (and proceed to do exactly that all game). Sh did her homework and the others were clueless - good get Daisy some dick said. The footage of Ling jumping for joy from his boundary line spot as a special comment man when they won made me sick. 7 highlighted it and made a virtue of it. That said all you need to know about how they go about covering the game. Oh and how about some proper anlaysis at the quarter breaks of the sort Craig Foster did in the SBS world cup coverage that actually helps understand what is happening (or not as the case may be) tactically and strategically. Or highlighting specif players. Properly.

  24. Every time I hear about these rule changes, someone is talking about the 'product'. The game is a 'product' to be sold and marketed. People are apparently not watching the AFL's 'product'. Well, fine, how about these product improvements then: - Commentators who don't spend all their time talking about each other in some sort of in-joke circle jerk - Commentators who know the players' names - Commentators who will get excited about games without escalating into hyperbolic hero-worship - Not compromising start/end times of games in order to lead into other network programs - High-Def internet subscription service that can be played on a TV and not restricted to a 7 inch mobile device - Not packaging games with a cable provider's other bloated, useless content - High-Def cameras for score reviews (I assume they have strapped some old Nokias to the top of goal posts, such is the quality we have right now) - Removal of gambling advertising - Camera operators who can follow the game properly (especially the northern states where they seem to be used to rugby and we struggle to get a sense of how the ground is set up) There ya go. Didn't change a damn thing about the game itself and already I'd watch more footy.

  26. Frost coming towards the wing instead of tracking Hawkins through the middle. The whole last few minutes were atrocious. In the time Gawn went off, the leaders should have had time to get things set up right and convey what needed to be done.

  27. Don't wait for the ball to come out of a pile of players, just ball it up quickly before they get there makes a lot of sense. 'm always annoyed when players just jump onto the tackled player and his tackler to create a ball up. They often even tackle an oppo who is in the pile who doesn't have to ball. Why is that not a free?

  29. Probably need to see Gil's Final 8 list to know the answer to that. If we are in it, then maybe the luck is about to come our way, if not, the reaming continues.

  30. There is no hope of sense from the AFL. Almost every new rule/interpretation has not been thought through which is why we are in this mess. Even something as innocuous as the 30 second rule is going to be rorted or controversial in an important match. Close to the siren in a close game someone kicking for goal other than Ben Brown will take 2 minutes to walk in from 100 metres away. Ben Brown will be able to because that is his 'natural arc'. Other players may or may not be called to play on at some random distance from the mark or for some walking speed deemed too slow. The problem is that the rule says start moving toward goal within 30 seconds. It should be kick the ball within say, 45 seconds. Too bloody obvious for Gil and his mates.

  31. I see you asked this because you think by trading Hogan we could get a defender, and you think we need a defender because we're too easy to score against. Not only do I disagree completely with the suggestion we should trade Hogan (the first half of this season he was in AA form and if your expectations are that a 23 KPF should be at AA level every single week then your expectations are out of whack), I disagree with the notion that we need to get a defender. Our defensive problems are not down to OMac or a key defender, they are down to our team's defence.

  32. I really hope we're retain him next year. He plays his best footy in the guts and has been squeezed out this year due to numbers. Jones won't be here forever and Viney's foot may need insurance so the is a definite need for someone of his ilk. It is a shame the majority of the players competing for that spot are unable to play other positions. Congrats Dom.

  34. I have never understood he AFL’s motive for a rule change that they have brought in. The slide, 3rd man up, protected zone, 30 second shot clock. At best all I can remember is some murmuring about these things and they just decided to pull the trigger. We have so many stupid rules now that we can’t even officiate the ones we had in the first place properly. There’s a rule that’s been around for 120+ years. It’s called HOLDING THE BALL and if it occasionally got paid we might have a more free flowing game. 6-6-6 isn’t going to do anything. I love it how the AFL and some journos call for change saying the specticle isn’t great but we the fans seem to be screaming to leave the game alone. I understand ratings may be down and there’s a lot of ugly games but I’m just sick and tired of hearing of all this rubbish we need to do. Have zones, cap interchanges more and tire the players out, clear the centre square, shorten games, shorten seasons. No-one has any friggen idea what they are talking about. Im willing to bet that should we make these changes in 3 years time we’ll be looking to make changes to the rules again.

  36. The AFL are truly run by morons who don't actually listen to their fans, the ones who make the game! They have brought in rule change after rule change when in reality none of them were required and I don't think anyone had an issue with the game when they started doing this. All they really need to do is change these ridiculous rules: 1) The ruck nomination rule - it's a farce and has caused supporters a lot of grief. Simple change would be to penalise any side that has two players go up for the ruck contest, resulting in no ridiculous free kicks and the ability to ball up much quicker. 2) 10m protected zone - what the hell was wrong with the previous rule used? Did I miss something where every fan was up in arms over players running within 10 metres of the player with the ball? Throw this rule out completely and go back to the way it was. Cheers. 3) Sliding in - please stop paying this when a player has his head over the ball and has a right to get down and pick it up. It is the opposing players duty to ensure their legs aren't in the way. This rule should be reserved for only the worst of sliding into a contest, mainly feet first with the potential to cause injury. If they make these slight adjustments I really don't see much of an issue with the way footy is being played. If they continue to make changes and make the game harder and harder to understand/watch they will lose me and I'll reserve my watching of football t Demons games only and finals.

  37. This just sums up theirs arrogance and why I hate them so much. They aren’t even in the 8 and their already requesting a home final. I hope they pull a Melbourne, choke and finish 9th. God I hate them.

  40. My understanding is that the AFL instructed all nine clubs still in contention for finals to send out those emails. Had we made it, another club would have been seen to be getting ahead of themselves and copped the ridicule. Unfortunately, nobody really seems interested in the truth when there is an opportunity to sh1tcan Melbourne.
