  1. Finally caught up with my source this morning who told me that Gaff definately wants to be a Demon next year. I pressed for a bit more but that’s all he would give me.

  2. Following the theme of the OP, and with sincere apologies to ole blue eyes….congrats to Chunk, who did it His Way… And now, game 250’s here And so we face the Western Bulldogs My friend, I'll say it clear The dees will win, of which I'm certain Chunk’s played, a game that's full of hard ball gets, tackles and tough play But more, much more than this Chunk did it his way Regrets, we've had a few 2012, best not to mention But Chunk did, what he had to do And saw it through, winning three Bluey’s too He carried us against each gifted foe Each careful kick, or bump behind the play And more, much more than this Chunk did it his way Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew When he could have been off to a club a’new But through it all, when there was doubt He signed on for 4 years and stuck it out He faced it all and he stood tall And did it his way I've loved, I've laughed and cried I've had a complete gut full of losing But now, as tears subside I find these 15 goal wins so amusing To think he did all that And may I say – thank god you stayed Yes, thank god for you You make my game day For what is this man, what has he got Elite standards, and a handy snapshot He’d play the wings, if he had heel Plays with a busted neck, he’s made of steel The record shows he took the blows And did it his way If anybody deserved to hold up the cup mate, it’s you. Thank you for everything you’ve done for our club. Go dees.

  3. Hi all! In celebration of the upcoming Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round, I've put together a clip highlighting one of the greatest Demon performances of all time: Jeff Farmer's nine second half goals against the Pies! Was anyone at the MCG that day?

  4. I think the solution is to reward them with more Friday night games.

  5. Nice to hear... "I've lived here (Melbourne) for about six years now and I'd almost call it home," Hogan told AFL.com.au. "I still love going back to Perth obviously. But with each year I stay here, it's probably that little bit further away from going back to Perth."

  6. Of all those KPIs we have broken through over the last month, I actually really like this one, which fittingly, we would have actually inflicted with our win several weeks ago against them - "the Blues are now the least successful Victorian club this century. Since the start of the 2000 season, a year after the club had made the Grand Final and a year in which it was to make a preliminary final, Carlton has played 417 matches for just 157 wins (37.65%). In the same period, Melbourne has played 415 games for 158 wins (38.07%). " http://m.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-30/barrett-blues-should-follow-dees-recipe It's not the point that the article is trying to make, but I hear Mark Neeld is available and I'd be only too happy for him to go over to Princess Park and bake some cakes for Carlton.

  7. The point I think the pundits miss is the fact the we haven’t just beaten teams below us, we have, in the past three weeks, wiped the floor with them. Adelaide may have been undermanned, but were they undermanned to the point where a 91point drubbing could be shrugged off? Name any other team in the comp who has crushed Carlton by over 100points. Name any other team who has an average combined winning margin over a three week period (that included travel) of something like 90points. They can play the weak/weakened opposition card all they like... it doesn’t change the fact that we are comprehensively doing away with opposition teams.

  10. I thought last week Adelaide were supposed to be a “scalp” however we beat them so well and by so much that they looked putrid and now they’re not a team , but one out of form and riddled with injuries and we’re just still flat track bullies who haven’t beaten anyone yet If we had won by 5 goals with Adelaide in the contest up to the end the narrative on Adelaide would be different , and then conversely the magnitude of our win (almost stupidly) would have been seen as greater in the eyes of some , as it would be seen as a real scalp ! FMD , just maybe Adelaide got beaten by a better side. Let’s see how Adelaide are now a magically a “top team “again when they have a redemptive win on the weekend . Like us as supporters the media has preconceived biases towards our team , we don’t fully trust them yet , and we see the reality of the incredible stats of the past month , yet we don’t believe it , it’s something of an outlier or an anomaly , as this is simply just not Melbourne like , and the universe will surely correct itself shortly and we’ll go back to our old ways . Well that’s what I (and many others mind you) thought of Richmond last year , maybe (just maybe) we might now be finally proven wrong about our own club too

  11. TRAINING Jack Viney and Mitch Hannan started the training away from the main group. Doing run throughs and 3/4 speed 50 meter sprints. I thought they were going to keep to light duties but after about 15 minutes both joined the main group. The AFL group all had a light training and did not do game simulations . Those in the VFL did some 8 on 8 game simulations. Sam Wiedeman and Cam Pederson taking many marks. Sam Frost giving run from the back. Oscar Baker linking well through the middle. Harley Balic offering composure and ball skills. Jay Kennedy-Harris getting to contest and putting lots of pressurs on everything. Tom Bugg showing leadership to the younger ones. There wasn't a rehab group today. Let's hope Dean Kent hasn't gone backwards in his recovery. AFL group did lots of goal kicking. Mainly snaps around the coaching staff who are encouraging lateral movements. The whole group focused on ball skills. Plenty of kicking to advantage, high marking and lead up to mark. Drills to protect the ball and shield the opposition from the contest were also included. Coaching staff working hard to make sure the players react quickly when there is a turnover and restructure to defensive or attacking game plans. Plenty of work to encourage the spread. The players were again very positive, lots of enjoyment and a good amount of noise and support for each other. The session finished with all staff members, players, coachs, fans and some school kids attending a ceremony celebrating the indigenous round. The field was marked with the Aboriginal and a Torres Strait flag. A speaker talked for 15 minutes about his story, family and the traits that he found positive in his life. Then the didgeridoo and sticks were played. All present very respectful and reflective.

  12. We are deadset screwed. Melbourne should be planning for a 100pts + win Etihad is not an advantage anymore against them. They beat us easily there in 2017 Melbourne will be the best team we've played this year, looking awesome today: pace, excellent field-kicking, goal-kicking - all those things we lack really. All those early draft picks and some astute recruiting have created an impressive line-up We've been killed by some of the best rucks recently and next game happens to feature Gawn Neal-Bullen dominated last week. Taken 5 spots before Bailey Dale So far this year we have kicked 97 goals, Demons have kicked 160. We're screwed. All we can do is stack the team with defenders and hope for the best At what stage to we plead the mercy rule we have kicked 10 goals the last 2 weeks they have kicked close to 50 goals so if that average applies 25 goals to 5 goals 120 point margin Logically Melbourne should be winning this easily, but they’re definitely due for a down game Lost all 4 quarters to them last year I predict Melbourne to meet West Coast in the GF and lose a nailbiter Melbourne supporters whinging about going theough tough times the last 10 years which is why they're getting ahead of themselves now Melbourne will beat us by over 80 points - Gawn will dismantle us Melbourne might even smash us by more they did last yr - and that was a slaugheration. We can only hope the Dees get ahead of themselves and screw up I got a horrible feeling about this week after our last 2 and Melbourne ‘s last two Be a hell of a scalp against Melbourne Every week Bevo comes out with excuse after excuse , total dribble , over complicates his post match analysis I am literally at a complete loss. To me 2016 seems like a grand deception Can we just concede defeat and not even turn up for the Melbourne game?

  18. It’s a circular argument: we’ve beaten teams by this degree because they’re poor but they’re poor because we’ve been them by this degree. Adelaide are suddenly nobody because we thrashed them; before the game all the talk was that this game was our test. It’s still all just noise, in Riewoldt’s case it’s just well measured and articulated noise. People can say whatever, as long as we keep winning I couldn’t care less.

  21. While I agree with Reiwoldt's views, it seems the media like to choose their narrative and stick with it no matter what. Take the Eagles for example, who granted are playing well, however 7 of their 9 wins are against bottom 10 sides. Also, their two wins against top 8 sides have been at home and one of them was against an injury ravaged Geelong, who were down to one fit man on the bench. Geelong were getting on top that day until they lost those players and then the Eagles ended up running over them. They don't seem to mention this at all.

  22. I’ll answer for Grand New Flag. I’ve been told Gaff is keen on coming to the Dees. Plenty of water to go under the bridge until then but signs are all positive. If the deal can get done it will get done.

  23. For those that might not be able to read it - that article is a joke. Nowhere does it actually say that the Eagles are interested in Gus, more that it wonders if the Eagles will chase him as 'revenge' for us chasing Gaff. There is absolutely nothing to suggest he wants out, no quotes from managers or coaches or anything resembling something new. It's a headline purely for there for clicks.

  24. I agree about not getting carried away as its a looong season and so many things can change between May and September. Remember the dees in 87. At one point that mega year we were 6 wins and 10 losses. That being said, the same " injury riddled" crows did the swans a couple of weeks ago and the same "depleted" Essendon didnt look too bad last week. The lions away are hard to beat for all sides this year and are one of the best bottom 4 sides I can remember and the blues have consistently given us big troubles over the years. We ourselves were missing Tmac and Jack at the start of the season ( arguably 2 of our top 5 ) but no one is saying the tigers , cats and the hawks beat a depleted Melbourne side are they. I think we have to keep out feet on the ground as theres such a long way to go...but this side is playing an outstanding brand of footy and we should fully celebrate it. we're coming of age. We're Tough, fast, skilled and well coached. No obvious weaknesses anywhere. Whoever beats us again this year is going to have an almighty fight...we're nobodies poodles anymore.

  27. Murphy said that (he thinks) the players know that something special is taking place. He reckons it’s noticable and similar to Richmond last year, anything’s possible for this group.

  31. After watching the game live I thought Gus was clear BOG but having watched the replay, Hogans game was enormous. The ground he covers is remarkable, almost Riewoldt like already and he must be an absolute nightmare to match up against for the opposition. He`s in rare form and will only improve.

  35. There were plenty of wise heads on this forum in the early years who said this was how it would pan out, in that if we could convince him to stay in the early years he’d eventually grow out of the idea of returning to Perth. A strong bond with his teammates, a Victorian girlfriend, a club that has actively supported him during his more homesick periods and a bit of team success would (and has) created a sense of home in Melbourne. In my opinion the risk of him going has now completely evaporated. It may resurface when he’s a 30 year old, 200 game player looking to transition his life and spend his last contract at “home”, but by then with 3 flags and 2 Brownlows to his name, I’ll happy wave him goodbye with thanks, knowing he was a loyal Demon when it mattered.

  36. That's what you get when your whole recruiting strategy is based around poaching GWS rejects. Their pathetic performances haven't stopped the media from trying to talk them up at every turn as well. If we were in their position they would be taking great enjoyment out of smashing us.

  37. I think Collingwood is the litmus test for us. Don't get me wrong, I've been absolutely rapt with the way we've played recently. ...but I want to see how we go in a tight contest and the Pies play a solid, contested brand of footy. They usually bring pressure. Plus the Gawn/Grundy battle should be a beauty. ...and taking it one week at a time, I wouldn't discount the Dogs. Saturday has danger all over it if we don't bring our A game...

  39. You forgot possibly the best two, the only two really of much value from the Druggies (Gary Moorcraft and Michael Heffernan didn’t set the world on fire, Michael Hibberd Jake Melksham Also Jeff Farmer did ok ! 4 of our current best 26 Hibberd, Melksham, Lewis, Vince is pretty decent pickings. And Pedo, though not currently in those ranks, has turned out to be a dedicated hard working and reliable back up.

  40. I feel like I should be worried, but I am 100% not. We haven’t seen this Melbourne side before, past embarrassments are irrelevant. My only problem about this game is it’s still sooooooo far away. I am itching.

  42. 37 touches and 3 goals is elite. People aren't talking about him enough. His game was off the charts. If Dusty had a 37 touch 3 goal game there would be a page dedicated to him on the AFL website. So excited to see him play great footy.

  43. It is interesting that people are celebrating his inside mid contribution when he has also been just so brilliant once the play spreads a bit. Most of his posessions against Adelaide were listed as uncontested, but you wouldn't say they were generally loose or soft posessions. He is looking like a master of an aspect of the game that we've had a weakness in - getting to the right spot at the right distance from the pack, anticipating the movement in order to receive the ball and then have time to do something useful with it. Clayton Oliver now has a target as good as his aim!
