  1. Can't even discuss the actual game yet, only how the win felt. I was at the ground. I brought a ticket through Ticketmaster and some how ended up sitting in an Eagles reserved seating section. I literally could not see another Melbourne supporter. I was by myself. I cheered everything we did and got stared at, people whispered about me, one woman asked her husband if they could move away. I wasn't badly behaved. I was just passionate. Because those Eagles supporters they don't understand - I fell in love with this footy club in 1987. I was sitting with my old man on the half forward flank when Jimmy ran over the mark and Buckenara kicked the goal in the Prelim. I've sat through horrible horrible performances - multiple 100 point floggings at the G (just 4 years ago). I'd do it all again for that win, and the effort and energy we showed to drag ourselves over the line in that last quarter. When Tommy Mac kicked the last goal I went bananas. And then when the siren went I went absolutely ballistic. You know those sad people at sporting events going nuts who you think 'calm down mate, maybe you need more going on in your life'? - that was me! Im pretty sure I looked like the slow mo of Stevie J when he kicked the sealer a couple of weeks back - but in real time. It was ugly. I don't care. That was an absolute delight. I love this footy club, and I love that I at least have a place on the internet to share something like this with people who get it. Go The Dees. I believe.

  3. TOM McDONALD: "I've been here for all those losses against West Coast, and normally we lose by 100 points...I'm a little bit sick of Melbourne being down the bottom and being disrespected by the competition." Mate, keep this up and anything's possible.

  4. We just beat the Eagles in Perth on a 6-day break with 3 injured players. Contender for best win this millennium.

  5. Jack Viney's game tonight is one of the most courageous performances I've seen from a captain in Melbourne colours. He is toughness personified, he will get all coaches votes and should have it double. Tommy Mac, wow. What a night, 5 goals anywhere anytime is good. Against the eagles on their home turf, amazing. What a game!

  8. Not long got to the ground, took my seat and had a cheeky little sip of spiced rum out of my flask. A Weagles supporter turned around and told me I wasn't allowed to bring it in. I took another sip and stared at her before telling her she was ugly and she shouldn't have been allowed in. Hopefully I last the game.

  9. I'm heading to the game. If Darling flops around and plays for frees and is payed them, I will contemplate running onto the ground and throwing up on him.

  10. I genuinely don't think I'm overstating it by saying that was the most significant win for this club in over a decade. Several star players missing, key in game injuries, 6 day break, interstate trip where we haven't won in 15 years, final quarter (and very late) deficit... HUGE amount of grit, flair and mental toughness showed by the boys. This team has officially arrived. [censored] I love this club.

  12. Qtr time egg and bacon roll report. And the conclusion is: don't bother. Nice attempt though. The best bit was a very nice egg although a bit runny to have in a roll. The roll was fresh but not soft enough and with the hard shell top it ends up tasting too much like cardboard. Cheese was a slice of tasty, but in cold weather it's too stiff and dry and better left out. In its place I'd have preferred more bacon of the middle rasher variety instead of the short bacon that was undersized and lost in the big cardboard roll. Casey cooks have nothing to fear here.

  16. I can't believe we won that game! Missing key players to injury before and during the game, umpires against us, crowd feral, running out of legs. Ive waited so long to see the red and blue show heart like that I'm so happy I am in tears!

  20. With apologies to Dorothea McKellar whose grandson I reckon might have once played for Richmond and Melbourne in the days before these foreign clubs invaded footy:- I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Where all roads head to its west, And a stadium called "Domain", I love her far horizons, I love her quirky weather, Where the beauty of her western coast, Is the home of Neville Jetta. 'Tis a bleak-hearted country, A wilful, lavish land If your team has rarely won there, You will clearly understand though Earth holds many splendours, And days get darker and blacker, All I ask the lord for tonight is winning smiles, From Pedo, Buggy and Petracca.

  21. Congratulations on the milestone. After a bit of a rollercoaster start, having taken 6 seasons, he has turned in to a handy defender. His ability to assist his teammates in defence has been a feature since moving back there, however I feel like his run/dash forward has made real progress this season. Hopefully the next 50 can come quicker for him.

  25. The most impressive thing tonight was that in the last two minutes, with the game on the line, we win every clearance, every contest. We seriously lacked composure in our close losses this year. Tonight we showed a composure and will to win we haven't seen for 11 years.

  26. When the inferior Jetta missed that goal was when I started to think, hmmm. Just had that feel to it. The effort that went in to the last goal was immense. It goes down on the score sheet to PMac, but it had the blood and sweat from 22 of them. They were tired and injured, but they just kept grinding it forward with everything they had. I think it's the sheer guts of it that has made me giddy.

  34. I live around the corner, second match Casey versus Box Hill I've been to. I stand next to the interchange cabin. The vibe in there was sensational. Positive, complimentary to each other, confident and involved. The few times Kent came off he was thoroughly engrossed and making perceptive and encouraging comments. Trengove came off in the 3rd quarter and had his right knee area attended to. JKH plays way above this level. He was clearly the classiest player on the ground. Kent got a lot of it, lot of long bombing raids. White was terrific. Weidemann was sensational. He was triple teamed after quarter time and got sweet fluck all help from umpires. Kennedy is a classy battler at this level. Spencer gave his all, also got cooked by the umpires a few times. Fritch will be a gun. ( It's the German gene.) The Casey runner deserves a medal. I reckon he ran one hundred and fifty Kilometres this afternoon. Box Hill is a big bllody ground. Spoke to a bunch of lads who were watching. There was a blonde topped lad who is as thin as a rake. I recognised his old man in him. He'll be back next week, Il Signor Smith. The Hogan and the Brayshaw have the same taste in tacky dacks as me.

  35. A few of my observations from watching on TV. JKH very impressive, but he's got a few ahead of him in the first 22 playing that role. He needs an AFL level second string to his bow because he won't push out Oliver, Viney, Jones etc. Maynard is great physically and for clearances, but unless that was a particularly bad day his disposal is way below AFL standard and will need rectification. He makes vandenBerg's disposal look classy. White and Trengove both excellent skills and decision making at this level (although I thought Trengove was injured he was so quiet in the third quarter) but I don't know they have the physical traits for AFL. Or at least not for Goodwin's game plan. Weideman wasn't so much the 6 goals that were great, but his straight kicking and aggression in the air that impressed and is clearly AFL level for mine. Spencer very fumbly, is out of form. Hulett, I just don't see what he could be at AFL level unfortunately. Kennedy as usual very effective, but not dissimilar to JKH in he won't push out the genuine midfielders for Melbourne, so what's his other position at AFL level? Kent was solid as a midfielder. Unlike JKH and Kennedy, he definitely has the traits as he's proved before to play AFL level Other than midfield. Definitely above the shoulders for him. Johnstone doesn't get much of the ball, but his work off the ball looks good. Kielty I think could be stuck in between sizes and positions for AFL. Seems to have solid judgement though. King obviously still getting back into the swing of things. I wouldn't be surprised to see trade time interest in JKH and White in particular if another team can put them in genuine midfield and half back flank spots respectively. Kent as well if he is on the outer. I also agree with others the Fritsch will get an AFL chance. Has class and poise and with a bit of physical development could be a Tory Dickson style player.

  41. How bl***y good was that?!?! Injuries from last week, injuries in the game, a huge crowd against us, and one of the gutsiest wins in ghe last decade. Best win of the year for mine. Jack Viney, I think I want to have your babies. TMac - astonishing. Pedo - you are a great late-game player.

  43. As we all know, you're fighting a 4 goal umpiring bias in the west, and you'll never see a more obvious example than Jeffy's perfect dispossessing tackle in that last bit. The very definition of spineless, unaccountable umpiring.
