  1. His father Mark Brayshaw is on SEN and said (not verbatim): Angus is fine after the latest knock. Mark and his wife had a long chat with the doctor yesterday and expect Gus to be available to play this week. Mum more worried than Dad. Club doctors are very good and conservative and are keen to keep parents in the loop. Angus's doctor said his issue is at the lower end. Angus has been a bit unlucky with head knocks rather than how he plays Doctor's explained wearing a helmet only increases the circumference of the 'target' so helmets don't really help Gus has no structural damage His mum doesn't want him to stop playing but does worry (more than dad) Grateful for the chance to talk as it clears things up for lots of family and friends. Its great that Gus's dad has come out and cleared the air. If nothing else it stops journos creating dramatic headlines. A father is a lot more convincing than a club. Delighted that Gus is ok and can get on with his football.

  2. Oh, Melbourne. I could be angry, but I can't help but be proud. 2 men down for most of the night, one of them our ruckman (again) and we just didn't have it in us. We can argue about skills on a slippery night, and a whole host of the usual, but while the loss cuts deep I can't help but be proud. We were totally out on our legs and they ran over the top of us. There was almost nothing we could do. Chin up boys and bounce back next week.

  4. Wow, I can't fathom the lack of 'support' on here. how about I come to your work on Wednesday shatter your coworkers shoulder, and then break another ones ribs, all before lunch, and then Scream at you for not being 100% productive.

  5. We lost because of injuries. Plain and simple. And dont tell me injuries are no excuse, cos they [censored] are. Also Richmond are still a bunch of pretenders.

  6. There are some seriously silly posts on this thread. How can anyone have a go at the players for losing that one. "Injuries no excuse"...are you serious? This is a game played by humans, they are not robots. In a high intensity, high pressure game, to lose two players before half time and have another one hobbling in the goal square, it makes it extremely difficult. Add in the fact your no1 ruck is out, then your second ruck goes down before half time, how can you possibly compete on a level playing field? And they are not playing mugs, they are playing a team of elite professional athletes, with 22 fit players. There was nothing more predictable than Richmond running over the top of us. You could see it late in the third. By all means be frustrated. I am. It's excruciating to know you have a good side, a side in my view that is clearly a class above Richmond, but due solely to bad luck they have beaten us. We outplayed them for three quarters despite our injuries and they only crept past us at the end. Richmond should get no credit for tonight. That was a Steven Bradbury win if I've ever seen one. Them being 5-0 and us 2-3 is about as illusory as ladder positions get. Unfortunately we've just copped a shocking run of luck so far this year and in an even competition it can be the difference between finishing 5th or 15th. We finally have a good side capable of getting results and we just haven't had a fair go. But be frustrated at that. Don't just assume this was an avoidable fade out that the players should take responsibility for. They were fantastic tonight and deserved the four points.

  7. I'll focus on the real positives of the game which were Mitch King's return to footy and Buggy dominating. Mitch King dominated the ruck against pretty much no real opposition but looked really good and got involved around the ground which was great. On the game itself I thought Casey struggled to get going in front of a tiny crowd, I fear for these 7pm starts but it doesn't seem to be getting the crowds in with the dew and the earlier rain not helping the standard of game. Bugg - Was in everything and one of the only Casey players to be clean with his disposal, while his team mates were over possessing he recognized the conditions and got the ball forward. Looked a class above all game and by a country mile the best player on the ground. Pederson - Played mostly forward and competed well but is not in the best form, not clunking any marks at the moment and would like to making more impact on the scoreboard. Trengrove - Was the tagged player this week, struggled to have an impact in the first half from the midfield but switched to half back and made a real impact with his ball use behind the play. Jack's decision making is elite and seems to try and to do the team things all the time, doesn't fumble and his athleticism seems to be getting better. Hullett - Played well in defense without being remarkable, good return for his first game of the year and will look to build form. Mcdonald - Was solid and efficient with disposal, was taken off at half time probably for Monday Nights game as an emergency. Johnston - Best game so far in the VFL including the praccy matches, only thing lacking was his finish for goals which he rushed a few times. Showed some real good composure with the ball in the F50 to setup team mates. Maynard - Really getting involved and starting to become a reliable midfielder, decision making is improving but doing better than expected at this stage. Kennedy - Really busy all day and had one of his better games, disposal needs to be worked on still and doesn't hurt as much as he should with his speed. Kent - Never really got going all night, fumbled and unable to produce his best. Keilty - Played as a Ruck Forward and is improving every week in the role, being devolped as a utility KPP for AFL level. King - The highlight of the night for me, wasn't as good in the second half but I was super impressed with his return. Got involved in the play around the ground and is running ability and athleticism for his size was surprisingly good, not afraid to kick as well and looked like old school ruck rover than a lumbering ruck man type. White - Solid game from Mitch, kicks the ball very well and doesn't lose contests often. Brayshaw - Started slowly before starting to get more involved in the second qtr before his unfortunate late hit. It was in play for those saying it was behind play, it was on the far side to where I was so hard to say how hard the contact was.

  8. Super proud to support the club tonight. Almost everything went wrong. Richmond are such pretenders. Couldn't go with us when it was an even competition.

  9. Agree. We were out on our feet before three quarter time and don't lose the game until the last 4 minutes. Sensational effort Dees. All the Watts knockers can get stuffed. Guy is busting his guts for us. The better side lost, end of story.

  10. We had no ruckman (and he was our second string)and lost the stoppages convincingly after that point. We had no third on the bench for the second half. CP played on one leg. We lost because we had nothing left not through lack of effort or ability and also didn't dominate on the scoreboard early when we had all the play. Great game by Oliver, Hibberd, Hunt and Trac on one leg, others ok in part but thought across the game those four were immense.

  13. I'm as gutted as any of you but some of you are a disgrace! 2 men down for more than a half of footy on a wet night and you can't excuse them for running out of steam! The whole structure was shot when Spencer went down. Have a crack at the selection committee and fair enough too, but the players could not have given any more tonight! Season over my arse, pull your heads in!

  15. Gutted for Jake. Spends the whole year last year giving the VFL side a ride waiting for his go, hardly gets so much as a scratch. Finally gets his chance, second week in, injured. There is no justice sometimes.

  16. Agree with all of that, red. We had nothing left to give and with Nankervis able to get first hand on the ball it meant they held sway when they needed to. We could do little about it. I'd like to see you adjust when your ruckman goes down, again, and another is sent to hospital with broken ribs. Not to mention Petracca on one leg. Silly comment.

  17. Can't help be proud of the boys. They were the 'walking wounded' (well those who could still stand and walk anyway) and gave everything they had to give. I'm obviously bitterly disappointed with the loss, but our boys showed a ton of character, which will take them a long, long way as the kids get games under their belt.

  19. Hunt, Oliver, Neal-Bullen, Harmes... these are the guys who stood up tonight and stuck at it. ANB with 21 touches and 10 tackles, Oliver with the slick hands, Harmes with some good pressure and Hunt is a star. Great return from Hibberd who will only get better from here and Watts put in a wonderful effort in the ruck when he was called upon to do it.

  21. Mark Brayshaw "Lower end of the spectrum". "Not predisposed to this type of injury". "Had some bad luck, like a football kicked into the back of his head." I hope people can just accept that clubs are far more cautious with head knocks these days and that there's no issue with Brayshaw playing footy now or in the foreseeable future. Don't like my chances...

  25. Still think there are so many more positives than negatives. The results will turn if we keep dominating games like that

  26. It is actually unbelievable. I've sat through a decade of the most dire foootball I have ever seen, and I've been massively critical of the club through that time. If supporters can't get behind the team after the hand we've been served this year, crucial injuries at horrible times, and we have still dominated large periods of games against much older experienced sides, then they can [censored] off.

  27. Only real negative tonight is that we should have been ten goals up at three quarter time.

  29. I have no nerves for this game. If we're good enough, we're good enough, if we're not, we're not. And if it means I have to wait a little longer to support a quality team so be it. In footy you usually get what you deserve.

  31. Their midfield aren't the pushovers they have been and their small forwards will trouble our backline, especially in the wet. We can't pissfart around with the ball across half back like last week, have to move it quickly forward to put them up see pressure.

  32. Boy there is some absolute dross being posted on here tonight. There's no doubt the injuries cruelled us. We were two down on the bench but Jones, Viney and Petracca were all injured and stayed on the park. It was 17 vs 22. Also, does Richmond have a single player missing due to injury? It was best 22 vs not close to best 17. The fourth quarter was nothing other than a byproduct of the players having given it 100% all night and running out of energy. The fact we were still in front with 5 minutes to go says volumes about how good we were. However... We should have been way, way more than 20 points up at three quarter time. IMO we lost this game in the first quarter, not the last. That first five minutes, the ball didn't cross into Richmond's forward half, yet we had nothing but 3 points on the board. We should have been 20 points up at quarter time and 40 points up by three quarter time, which would have made the fade-out in the last quarter manageable. This is the story of our season. I think we've been the better side for longer in all 5 of our games, but when we are on top with momentum we aren't scoring goals, whilst we concede too many when the momentum isn't with us. So we end up playing better football, for longer than our opponent, but losing 3 games. Of the 17 fit players, a few of them were passengers, none more so than JKH. An absolute waste of space and I refuse to believe that he met any "KPI" that was satisfactory. Yes, rusty after 1.5 years out but no, tonight was not good enough. As for the positives, HIbberd was incredible, Oliver again a beast, Hunt is a gem, Watts was superb, Jetta is one of the league's premier small defenders, and I thought Melksham and Vince both played their best games for the season (says a bit more about the first few than tonight). We are one of the better 2-3 sides I've seen in recent years (and Richmond possibly the worst 5-0 side) but at the end of the day it doesn't matter. There is sufficient evidence to say we should have won all 5 games and that's why it is reasonable to be upset with the 2-3 start, despite the circumstances.

  34. none of our mids can kick the ball, or want to kick the ball: oliver - 8 kicks, 24 handballs jones - 7 kicks, 18 handballs tyson - 9 kicks, 16 handballs viney - 7 kicks, 16 handballs anb - 10 kicks, 11 handballs stretch - 9 kicks, 10 handballs in wet weather football. disgraceful!

  35. Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Three weeks in a row. The good teams find ways to win. We cant/wont. But god damn Hunt is a player. And Clarry. Hibbo went alright too. Thats something... I guess.

  39. I don't know what the outcome of this will be or how heavy a hit it was, but having seen the footage on the news the guy who hit him should never play the game again. No pretence of playing the ball, he saw that Gus was looking the other direction, ran in and blindsided him with an elbow to the head. If he'd done it outside a pub he'd be looking at spending the next few years in prison. I see no reason for him to get off lightly just because he did it on a sporting field.

  44. @dazzledavey36 Petracca into the midfield tonight Youngest list = less composure under pressure -> equated that to why we lost against Freo. Oliver = ceiling is huge -> accelerates into contests- excellent work habits response to Mooney q - of fast tracking composure under pressure - Goodwin - talks about giving strategies - but through direct exposure...

  47. I think selection has been very good. J.Smith, Hannan, T.Smith, ANB, JKH - these are progressive selections. I don't always agree, but I never will - IMO Bugg for Smith last week was a mistake for example. But generally I think we've selected well. I've got nothing against Pedersen but I recognise he's just a journeyman and depth, I'm in favour of trying Hannan and Smith ahead of him, some here see him as the next Carey such is the fervour for him. I think Melksham was ordinary last week and would prefer to see him out, but it's not fatal and I'm prepared to give him and the selection panel some more rope.
