Jeez, thanks for the searching party thread... I got promoted earlier in the year at work and then I stupidly agreed to coach a reserves team up here in the AFL Canberra so my free time was minus hours... Getting back in the habit now with trade week looming...18 points

I have the best news. The biggest. No one has trade news like I do. Other sites have the worst news. The worst. My news is much better than their news. They're liars. It's outrageous. It's hard to believe other sites lie about trades, it's dishonest. Other sites have said that my news is incorrect. WRONG! My news is the truth, and I'll always tell you like it is. Make trade news great again.16 points

One year deal. Well done Cam and good luck. No surprise really, was clearly in the cards when he went in early for the knife. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-10-06/pedersen-inks-new-oneyear-deal15 points

Can't believe people still argue that Dawes is more valuable than Pedo. The guy does everything Dawes does, but can actually take a mark and is on half the salary. Well done to the Pedo Bear, and well done to the MFC. 16 re-signings in 12 months!6 points

1 player at pick 19 is not going to improve their situation one iota. But the reason for that pick is simply disgraceful, given our circumstances over the past 10 years, when we have been denied such largesse.6 points

This may lose my anonymity but my 31 year old self doesn't care as much as my 21 year old self. I coached Ainslie Reserves. One year, won the flag, undefeated season. Never doing it again... Too much work.6 points

Dodoro Essendons list manager said on trade radio that Hibberd for 26 seems like a fair trade. Hopefully it gets done day 1 of trade week6 points

You have to be impressed about the way the MFC has conducted itself. Hats off to all those involved Also impressed by Jesse's conduct and honesty. Infact, there seems to have been a good amount of respect, integrity and honesty from both sides including Jesse's manager.6 points

Harriet Cordner has joined the Dees Women's team as a 'B' Rookie http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-10-05/cordner-continues-tradition She will be the 8th Cordner to play for Melbourne. Her grandfather Don Cordner won a Brownlow and Captained the club. Two Cordners are in our Team of the Century. While I'm sneaking in Women's league news, Daisy won the Woman of the Year award, a sort of Brownlow : http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-09-29/pearce-named-football-woman-of-the-year Oh and some new assistant coaches were appointed. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-10-04/assistants-named-for-womens-team Apologies for gate crashing the main Forum but not many people venture over to the Women's League Forum and I thought these stories were to good to miss especially the Harriet Cordner one. May she have as distinguished a footy career as her ancestors!5 points

At the start of the season, Max Gawn said he aspired to be among the top echelon of ruckmen in the AFL competition. He delivered on that promise ... and more with his selection as All Australian ruckman. He finished with the most hit outs with 928 and averaged 42.2 per game and also broke the record for the most hit-outs to advantage in a season with 314. Gawn made a significant contribution to his team's rise up the ladder in 2016 and was recognised by the club at the end of the year with the Norm Smith Memorial Trophy (coaches award) and James McDonald Trophy (heart and spirit award). Not to mention the fact that he’s become a cult figure at the club … Games MFC 2016 22 Career Total 61 Goals MFC 2016 16 Career Total 34 Keith "Bluey" Truscott Memorial Trophy 374 votes (Third club champion Ron Barassi Senior Memorial Trophy) Brownlow Medal 16 votes All Australian ruckman Equal fourth AFLPA MVP5 points

Pedersen is there to buy Weideman time. This is an indication that the club does not want to put undue pressure on its young players. It's just a responsible signing rather than an exciting one.5 points

Bang on point here, Ernie. We've all seen it through the last few years, but I don't think it's too big a call to say that PJ has taken the MFC into the upper echelon of well-run clubs. Our narrative has definitely shifted...5 points

If he is on $800k for the next 3 years as reported - we are paying well below market for him... 3 years is a lifetime for him to do some onfield damage with his mates.5 points

Not one of my favourites, I don't think Peter Giles and Stephen Smith enjoyed being taken out behind the play either, Lethal became an expert at taking out a player who was beating him. Still baffles me he how he got a statue at the " G" when he faced criminal charges for an incident on the football field.5 points

I watched him at Box Hill in the last Casey home and away: he was sensational. Casey might have won the flag had he not been surgeonized.... I'm glad he's been retained. He isn't a great player but he gives 100%, all of the time. Go Pedders4 points

Irrelevant. The AFL has made a statement today (as it did with its decisions over Essendon's treatment earlier this year) that certain clubs will receive different and special consideration. The AFL's draft is totally compromised and it's integrity in tatters. For the record, Melbourne won 10 games between 2012-14, the Lions won 14 between 2014-16. Try making sense out of that!4 points

Both. I'd say that he will play as that sweeping player across the pack when the ball comes inside defensive 50, then run and kick the ball off half-back.4 points

Stuie your anti Pedersen stance is showing. To suggest that the Weed was better than Pedersen in the two games he play is grossly incorrect. The weed had a modest first game and was in the bottom four in his second game. It will be at least 2018 before he is consistently better than Pedersen.4 points

Given his entire preseason was spent in rehab, and managed to earn a couple of games in the middle of the year, I would say that 2016 was an absolute success for Jack. As has been pointed out frequently, his speed is definitely a concern, however, knowing how professional he is, he'll spend his "holiday break" making sure that he starts day 1 of this preseason at 100%, giving himself the perfect platform to work on areas of his body and game that he has been unable to for the last 3+ years. Not saying that he will make it, but I just really hope the guy gets an uninterrupted run to see if he can make it. We know he has the brain to be an excellent player.4 points

Just on that - there is a distinct lack of ADC in this thread. It seems he has gone very, very quiet since Hogan re-signed. What a surprise.4 points

Weid needs at least another season at Casey and should only play when either Hogan or Watts are missing or when he's banged the door down.4 points

It was obvious from his first game that the hardnosed Oliver was a player of genuine class. He picked up 2 Brownlow votes and the Rising Star nomination for the opening round. Mindful of the need to build up his capacity to play out a full game, the Demons nursed him through the season but in years to come this powerful inside footballer will become a real weapon. But again, not as much money as the Dogs, Blues and Saints get each year. The Blues a poor club, with 2 of the richest families in Australia bankrolling them, Pratts and Mathiesons. We got some help from the AFL, but so does every other club in some way. I don't need justification for the Lions PP. I don't really care that they got a PP even though Chris Pelchen just said that pick 19 is very valuable in this draft. The AFL just does whatever it wants. Our competition has no integrity at all.3 points

Clearly he sits above Dawes. Dawes was a protected species under Roos. I bet Goody had to bite his tongue quite a bit during match committee.3 points

Trade Radio News • Hamish Hartlett has stunningly backflipped on a move to have him traded from Port Adelaide. After meeting with several clubs in Melbourne this week, Hartlett's manager Michael Doughty today told NAB AFL Trade Radio his client wished to remain at the Power. Doughty said a trade would now be "highly unlikely" despite the Power's initial interest in moving him on. • Port Adelaide ruckman Matthew Lobbe is a 50-50 chance of leaving the Power, according to his manager. Michael Doughty (who also manages Hamish Hartlett) told NAB AFL Trade Radio that Lobbe was exploring his options to move to a new club, with a desire to be the number one ruckman at a club. • The future of out-of-contract Western Bulldogs midfielder Koby Stevens remains up in the air, with the 25-year-old considering a move to a third AFL club. Stevens' manager Ned Guy told NAB AFL Trade Radio today that discussions were continuing with the Bulldogs, but Stevens would also be searching for potential opportunities elsewhere. • Don't expect the Dion Prestia and Jaeger O'Meara trades to be done anytime soon, with Gold Coast Suns footy boss Marcus Ashcroft today telling NAB AFL Trade Radio they were still a long way from being finalised. Ashcroft said Richmond had not yet offered its first round pick for Prestia, while Hawthorn had not discussed any players they were willing to trade for O'Meara. • St Kilda says it won't be trading ruckman Billy Longer this NAB AFL Trade Period. Chief operating officer Ameet Bains telling NAB AFL Trade Radio today that Longer had a two-year contract with the club and that he was a required player. • Essendon has been contacted by at least four clubs regarding trading for its prized number one draft pick this year. List manager Adrian Dodoro this morning told NAB AFL Trade Radio that they were unlikely to do a deal for the pick, unless something extremely attractive was put on the table. • Western Bulldogs ruckman Will Minson has confirmed he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. Minson is an unrestricted free agent, but is yet to decide whether he will play football at all in 2017. • Adelaide's Ricky Henderson appears likely to leave the Crows, with Adelaide yet to offer him a new deal. Henderson's manager Ned Guy telling NAB AFL Trade Radio there had been significant interest in Henderson for 2017.3 points

Perhaps the forward/ruck doesn't have to be a forward, i know this might sound a bit silly, but could Frost play as a third floating tall defender and rotate through the ruck, given we play a zone rather than one on one. if Frost goes into the ruck, Watts goes back behind the ball and Gawn slots into the forward line I'd be really keen to see Hogan, Weid and Watts have some consistent time up forward together.3 points

Hibberd > Melksham Pretty happy with this. We paid overs last year and unders this year. Both are best 22 and I think Hibberd will be close to top 12 for us for the next couple of years. At his age he is effectively a very good quality upgrade on Matt Jones. Make our list run much deeper.3 points

I feel a bit sorry for Lynden. For years had to put up with being in the middle AFLs version of the killing fields - the Melbourne backline. It can't have been much fun being constantly under pressure with little hope of actually winning. For a while he was considered one of the best one on one players in the game but the game has moved on. I hope he comes good with us, his kicking is an asset and he deserves some success with the team he has played with for so long. If not I'm sure most here wish him well with another club3 points
