  3. Another incredibly well considered post PF. For the life of me, I can't understand why you're not the list manager. Madness.

  4. One area of the club I think the footy department seems to have full confidence in is... The Footy Dept. I don't say that flippantly (although, admittedly, I probably typed it that way). That's a brave call about Jeffy and it's obviously based on the fact they feel they have clearly defined the things he needs to do to be in the senior team and he hasn't done them. So he gets a spell. Very confident decision. Regardless of how I feel about it personally it does set a standard.

  5. If Watts showed the poor defensive work and intensity that Hogan has done lately this site would have melted.

  6. If Viney plays as well I definitely wouldn't rule out Harmes or Kent making way too. I can't imagine Kennedy not playing on the back of his VFL game and the fact that he was pretty stiff to be dropped in the first place - could easily have been Harmes, Kent or Garlett as previously mentioned. Kennedy and Viney for Garlett and Harmes seems entirely reasonable to me.

  8. Someone on those facebook pages 2 weeks ago mentioned they had a relative source to Hibberd and apparently he is pretty disgruntled at the Footy club still for what they did. Melbourne had been keeping tabs on him and he is apparently very keen to get to the Dees alongside his best mate Melksham. Thought it was interesting.

  9. I think he will get more than 400k a year with the cap going up.

  10. Funny that this is brought up. About a month or two ago I saw Goodwin, McCartney, Melksham and.............. Hibberd having a quiet beer and counter meal in a pub in Richmond pub. I assumed it was a catch up of dons and ex-dons players/coaches, but perhaps there was more to it. I wouldn't be against it as he's kick is a weapon, but I wouldn't want the club to pay too much. As others have said, definitely focus on Hurley!

  11. We had one friday night game last year which we won on a cold wet night in front of a big crowd. Showed improvement through 2015 and were rewarded with 0 this year. The bummers bring the code into disrepute, finish lower then us in 2015 and all in sundries know they're 12 are going to get suspended, yet they get 2 Friday Night games this year including indoors v the reigning champs. And suprise, suprise it's a blow out and no one turns up. A please explain is surely in order!

  12. He did at least acknowledge Max as a contender, but I struggle with his justification for NicNat: "Which leaves the ruck, Melbourne's Max Gawn is another who is very stiff to miss. His numbers stack up very well, Goldstein perhaps just a tiny bit more effective with his disposal and near goal. But mobility in a team picked as if to play is essential, which means missing the No.1 berth, Gawn also misses out as No.2, where Nic Naitanui offers more flexibility and has certainly turned in a good enough season to earn his spot in my 22." The supposedly more flexible NicNat has kicked a total of 5 goals to Gawn's 9, and whilst averaging the same amount of disposals, averages less marks and less goal assists. Gawn is also 10% more effective in his ball use. Both are mobile big men which is what helps push them into the elite category. On pure tap work Gawn has a healthy lead over NicNat. Connolly would've been better off just admitting he's picked NicNat based on reputation and credits in the bank.

  13. The Weed won't play this season, they're doing what they did with Hogan as 17 year old and giving him a season in the VFL to develop his game and get his body right which is great. This would explain the reason they traded there 2016 first round pick to get a player ready for the 2017 season which is when we will be makeing the move into the top 8.

  15. Re Garlett. Ballsy decision but the right decision imo. If you want a decent culture around the place, which is respected by everyone from top to bottom, then the same standards must apply to everyone, no exceptions! While I don't claim to know what underpinned the decision, I'll back our Footy Dept. 100% on this one.

  16. Well, it's always tricky. If we play him and he has another dud game, everyone will say he should have been dropped ... and vice versa. I think with a lot of these selection decisions, there's a lot going on behind the scenes around what players have been asked or instructed to do, what roles they fill etc. If Garlett was told a week ago that he needed to work on x/y/z after the preceding weeks' poor effort, and he then didn't do it, well ... Same goes in reverse for players who perhaps Demonlanders are not seeing the benefit of: if they're doing what they've been told, and playing to instructions, and doing so effectively, equally, well ...

  18. There's an open training session at Goschs Paddock this Saturday morning. The Demon Army with Membership Volunteers will be firing up the BBQ. The MFC merchandise tent will be at the ground. Warm up with Mo's coffee cart and wait to see your favourite player for photos and autograph opportunities. The boys are usually very relaxed at training sessions & have plenty of time for all. It won't be the full squad on Saturday because the Casey Scorps are playing on Saturday afternoon. If it works for you, come along.

  20. There's the small matter of booking stadiums, arranging staff for ticketing, security, catering, cleaning, etc etc. Businesses organising boxes for their favourite clients, getting in food & drink .... so many factors. One week is impossible. Even a month would be pushing it.

  25. I am just interested in why he hasn't been named for Casey this week? Surely to see him kick a bag against Collingwood would be better for his development than 'resting' him the following week!

  26. Grimes, Oliver, Viney and Kennedy for me. Both Harmes and Kent need some time at Casey to reset, and Vandenberg, Kennedy and Petracca are all capable of playing similar roles. I understand the demotion of Garlett, but don't like it when others (namely Harmes and Kent) have done less for longer. Grimes should have been in the side three months ago, and is clearly the best of a poor bench (Viney aside).

  28. Oscar was given the final two games last year and his Brother a few years earlier under a different regime. It wouldn't surprise me if he's given a taste at season's end to whet his appetite over summer.

  29. Good way to look at the traded pick, give up a first rounder for the opportunity to develop a first rounder for 12 months. Stll would like to see him get a taste late in the year, but I guess we will see.

  30. Nev is a ripper, and in 2016 he's been the 'glue' in our defense. Reliable, hard-working, courageous and building his game year on year. A fantastic story of persistence and hard work and a typical Paul Roos prodige'. As a free agent, other clubs will have him on their radar, which bodes well for Nev's finances. I dunno what all that equates to in dollars, but imo he has easily established himself in the top quartile of players at the Club, and should be paid accordingly. I reckon 3 years is the right term.

  33. I'd assume with Garlett's omission to has to do with adherence (or not) to non-negotiable team rules around structure or contested ball, and form.

  34. Bit like you Stuie get a bit bored with some of the idiots on here and can't be bothered getting into crap with them I loathe the constant negativity so if I see any will try and engage in debate but most of the time is pointless I don't know why some support seems to bring them so much misery as for Jeff Garlett has been down on form and confidence in last couple of games so wasn't surprised when he was omitted, bit like BenKen who went back to Casey and responded the correct way hopefully Jeff will do the same these days MFC can replace any player this shows the rest of the squad nobody is immune

  35. Genuine question Saty: Why do you post/comment/reply here if that is always your stance? I've always appreciated your training reports, particularly during the preseason, but I'm just curious as to why you'd bother engaging posters in their opinions about such things when your response is always the same.

  37. Correct. It's a massive infrastructure project, and as someone who benefits from it daily, I struggle to understand why it was watered down. And then I remember politicians were involved. More than happy to pay taxes for infrastructure. JNR, if you want a return on investment, I'll give you some examples: - People in regional areas can get remote surgery, something that's not possible without fast internet, instead of wasting days driving into the city to see specialists. Virtual presence is in its infancy. Remote surgery is just one tangible example. - As traffic due to poor urban planning (and other poor infrastructure like roads/rail) increase, telecommuting becomes vital. The faster the connection, the more jobs can be done off site. The reduction in traffic alone could make FTTP NBN worthwhile if enough businesses thought of ways to use it, let alone positive mental health outcomes for being able to remove a long commute, or physical health outcomes for not being stuck in a car for 2 hours a day. - Global information sharing for learning institutions is greatly facilitated by being able to move huge amounts of data between different campuses (or indeed institutions). No wait times, just access what is needed. - Faster internet gives rise to new businesses for content creation. There's no way Netflix could exist without fast internet, and they make some of the best content going around, as well as being a content aggregator. Personally, I'm loving not being forced to watch ads for products I don't want, during shows on at a time that's inconvenient to me. Also, Rupert loses, which is a big plus for me. - Faster internet allows for greater scale in cloud processing, which is already being used to look for a cure for cancer. The more people who have faster connections, the more 'idle' computers can be connected to the network to crunch huge problems. You have to understand the scale of the speeds we are talking. It's near instantaneous transfers of huge amounts of information, and because it's fibre, it's scalable. It CAN GET FASTER. The watering down of the NBN will be seen as one of the biggest infrastructure blunders this country has ever made.

  38. I have been missing in action for a few days, just logged on to see what's happening on this remarkable thread. it is truly remarkable and from reading the posts over recent days i am a little reassured that i am not as crazy or wacko as i thought i was. there are some true eccentrics on this thread and of course i am being polite in using the term eccentric. there is an interesting little debate in my mind as to whether posters to this thread are truly eccentric or just simply highly imaginative. all that matters is that it makes for enjoyable reading with plenty of belly laughs along the way. keep it up fellow eccentrics. you make the other threads seem so boringly sane and rational, and that is not good for anyone's health. sorry guys i could not fit bananas into this post. oops I just did. by the way the organic bananas in the area i am currently convalescing are very sweet and tasty and go very well washed down with some organic red wine. i am so full of disease that i have become a vegetarian and eat only organic bananas, fruit and vegetables. my mood is not so good however, but i am going cold turkey and expect to overcome my past carnivorous habits in 6 to 12 months. fortunately, tasty organic vegetables are much better washed down with high quality organic wine, with the occasional after dinner single malt. i am finding yoga is helping as well. who would have thought that old Ernie, the amateur boxer, fisherman, big game hunter, with a penchant for guns, women and bull fights would have got to this state. well its never to late to change. i am slowly getting accustomed to the thought that in my final years I may be supporting a successful football team. now that will be the biggest change and make for the greatest change in my mood and behaviour on wintry weekends. and of course it will bring radical change to demonland and the opinions of posters. it will become terribly boring to read posters that tell other fellow tragics how good we are. my perverse nature means that i have always despised the successful clubs and their supporters because of their born to win attitudes and arrogance. i would hate that to happen to demon supporters (understanding that we do have our share of tossers as supporters, particularly in the members stand), but hopefully the critics, sceptics and depressives will continue to post their opinions as part of their on-going treatment. and to never forget that defeat and loss is always just around the corner, like taxes and death. it always seemed the case that snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory is part of our DNA. however, we have a new gene pool of kids that do not share the old genes of past generations and actually believe success is not only possible but assured. lets hope they start reproducing soon so we will a new intake of sons of guns.

  41. Good morning lesser beings. Good old uncle bitters has just ordered an overpriced and oversized breakfast at Tulla , prior to heading off on an Asian odyssey. Once again my diplomacy in dealing with poor people will be on display. Im quite generous with the natives and provided they are properly deferential I shall cast a few coins in their direction BTw As requested Earl , I shall spread a few flyers around the Forbidden City extolling the aphrodisiac qualities of Guava paste Sorry to hear Ernie has been feeling poorly, I shall try and obtain some powdered white rhino horn for him looking forward to a foot massage in Peking - they seem very exciting

  48. So how do the EFC get Friday night and Saturday night games? All those here that have rabbited on in the past about 'we have to perform better to get good games on TV and good fixtures against big clubs' now have it writ large that the fixture and TV rights are a cartel. It's like the MRP though. COmplaining just gives you a headache and doesn't achieve anything.
