I don't understand these comments. If he was a lazy player bringing the club into disrepute I could see the point. But he isn't. Injuries happen to players on both high and low salaries. And I'm sure he's hurting not being out there far more than any supporters who wish to quibble about the money.11 points

Yes, whining. It's so repetitive. You dwell on the negative to the point of ridiculous, and you avoid acknowledging counter points to enable you to keep doing so. You've said Trengove never does anything on the field to lift his side, yet it has been pointed out to you a few times that he led the tackle count, and also put in a successful chase against the quickest player on the field. So you either don't rate these acts, or you would prefer to ignore them because they don't suit your argument. I share your concerns about Trengove, but you seem detached from reality, such is your level of criticism. And yes, the team's crap. You mentioning it a thousand times isn't going to change that. You're not opening anyone's eyes to anything other than your own inability to notice improvement. Seriously mate, get a grip.8 points

How about you tightasses focus on his recovery and future value rather than the current ROI? Seriously he is injured, these things happen, especially to us. He has been worth every cent. Who would you rather give the cash to? Sylvia? Jamar? Gillies?6 points

And in my mind has been worth every cent. I got more enjoyment watching him tear it up for 15 games than any MFC player in recent years bar maybe Jurrah. Getting him right for next year makes perfect sense. Hope all goes well.5 points

You are under at least two delusions. The first is that a whinging, whining, pessimistic keyboard warrior on Demonland will have any effect at all on the club itself and its results. It won't. Do you think that the coaches and players care what a whiner on Demonland says? This 'copping rubbish' delusion is common with supporters of every lowly-placed club, but it's a waste of breath (or chicken manure). It's disheartening to all the other supporters who still retain some optimism, or who prefer to look at the situation from a more rational, considered perspective. Try thinking about what message you are sending to everyone else before pressing 'enter' on your next missive of total negativity. The second is that you think change and a whole lot of sackings will just fix things. It won't. Yes, I agree the club has been rubbish for a long time and that it's hard for supporters to cop. I've been following the Demons since the 1950s, and I'm as sick as anyone about the club's lack of success. But we've just got to keep trying, and suggesting, and analysing, and hoping, and supporting. My years of following Melbourne since I saw the 1964 premiership are heartbreaking, but I'm not going to give up now and become a whiner like you. Never. The reality is that from where we are now until at least the end of the year, when we start the merry-go-round again, is just going to be small steps. We've have made some small steps and it's a long process. At least be thankful for them and be more realistic. Here's a challenge: for every bit of negativity you want to spread about the club, try spreading one little bit of positivity. Everyone here will appreciate you more, and you'll lighten the mood. You might feel a little happier in yourself. Go on ... I know it's hard ... but at least give it a try.5 points

if he has suffered a career ending injury he deserves every penny he is contracted for. If he can't play he can still be a mentor or help in a coaching capacity. His strengh of character has been a bonus asset.4 points

I think he's got one more crack at getting it right or he'll retire. It's Matthew Egan all over again. Feel so sorry for the bloke. He's a champ!4 points

With deep respect to Maurice and Robin who have passed away of the other two, Barry is the better footballer.3 points

Thats rubbish, he hasn't been worth every cent, he's been sidelined for nearly 1.5 seasons, lets hope he recovers and plays well again though, best of luck to him.3 points

It's crap like this that keeps happening to us that makes me want to strangle anyone who says we don't need draft assistance to make us competitive. In case that sentence was too full of double negatives, let me spell it out for you: H E L P3 points

I'm trying to stay positive with his injury, I can't help but think we made a mistake bringing him back before taking his screw out. Hopefully they can manage this and get it right.3 points

About as sensible and realistic as getting the 4 Gibb brothers to MFC - Barry, Robin, Maurice and Bryce.3 points

If it's not a decent mid on the table then we're better off just keeping Fitzpatrick IMO.3 points

Mate, I'm having a shocker and I'm close to giving up on footy. Django tells me to hang in there, and I'm trying, but we have massive problems, notwithstanding a very ordinary list. I'm traumatised at the thought of another wasted draft. Btw, there's no hair3 points

jumbo has someone hacked your account? You are generally one of the more measured posters but you seem to have gone off on a tabloid, hyperbolic tangent.. The Geelong game a disaster? Hardly. 186 was a disaster. The game against Essendon this year was a disaster. Keep in mind that Freo could only manage 1 inside 50 in the 3rd quarter in dry conditions in their game down at the Cattery. Also keep in mind that contrary to popular belief wet weather accentuates the skill gap between good and poor sides. I thought we resisted them quite well actually. Saturday night not much better? We were competitive through the whole game and played with spirit in trying conditions. In the immortal words of the little fella from different strokes " whatch ya talking about Willis?" The reactive CEO sacked the coach because of a player revolt? Surely you jest. The coach sacked himself. A coach never survives repeated maulings of the sort we received, would have continue to receive if he had stayed and have not been on the end of since he was sacked. Bad hair day Jumbo?3 points

I hope Cale makes a career or of forty at West Coast. He didn't bag us after he left, he had a couple of promising years then struggled. I really feel hos biggest problem was confidence and it would be good to see him find that again. I think he had 3 coaches in his time at the mfc, a bit of stability will be good for him.3 points

What's the legitimate question, Wyl, what does Darren Glass do to inspire his players, he is as quite as a mouse but he generally beats his opponent and never gets towelled up, same as I pointed out to you last year about Trenners. Nick Maxwell hardly a gifted talent but like Trengove he does all the 1%ers required and you know what football is actually a very easy game made difficult by players and coaches. Trenners is fairly level headed, our best tackler and you have no idea what he does at the club day to day and neither do I. Don't put yourself on some pedestal that you have higher expectations than the rest of us because you want a flag, FFS crawl before you run, they take time and if you want to be serious hard yards are needed, tough times and don't give me any of this we've been carp for the last 7 years. News flash we started again last season and have sorted out the spine for a decent few years to come. Yes I want a flag, but they are hard to win, I would like to be a contender for a decent stretch, our list is actually not that bad a few tweaks and the right decisions will sort us out in the same manner the Tigers have turned things around since 2010. Trenners will never be a Judd, Ablett type but he will continue to be a solid contributor on our list for a long long time3 points

I wish I could be as gracious as you lot. I see a bloke we spent pick 4 on and, despite his talent, did not give anywhere near his best for the jumper and refused to get hurt. As a result he contributed to many losses and clogged a spot on our list for 5 years. Not his biggest fan that's for sure.3 points

Don't agree. Craig will be judged not on wins this year but the mark of improvement each game, which has been good so far. There is no way we will win the next three in a row and the powers that be will know this. If you think Gold Coast is a 50/50 you are kidding yourself. I expect a win against GWS and obviously good contests against the other two but I don't think three wins will be a requirement for Craig at all in regards to him coaching next season, especially considering the basket case that he has inherited and the damage caused by Neeld that he has to right.3 points

The Gold Coa$t will smash us into tiny bits up there btw. That one is not 50/503 points

I know these are not three words, but I think it is worth a bit more detail at this stage of the season. Overall, I thought it was a step forward along admittedly a very long road this evening, but at least we are nearly always competitive, and have found some very promising emerging players under Craig Trengove - still lacks his first year zip, but is improving. Will get it back next year freed of the captaincy Grimes - safe and steady. Great leader. Must play on-ball, next to Viney. Wines would be handy - another recruiting stuff up N.Jones - good tough and under, but was well tagged and failed to get into open space, but still serviceable. Watts - a mostly impressive performance, but still too often gets pushed around and lacks intensity. Roos would be really good for him I think Toumpas - someone who has to find form and confidence in the two's (a bit like the Bombers are doing with Joe Daniher). We need to be very careful we don't destroy this kid by expecting too much, too early. He WILLbe a star, but maybe not for a couple of year's. Dawes - good at times, but a bit inconsistent. At least though he does command a presence, and shows the value of having a big, experienced, premiership winning forward. Will be invaluable next year when we have the two emerging stars Hogan and Fitzpatrick, next to him and Clark. Viney - this was the first game he has played for the Dees where he showed of his full intensity, and never say die playing style. Justifies the hype. Will be a star like his father. Frawley - season's best game, and is getting his mojo back. Like Watts, is thriving under Craig Byrnes - ok at times, but still think he was a wasted pick just like Pederson, Gillies and Roden. Sylvia - at least Colin appears to be trying, where you could not say that under Neeld (or Bailey for that matter). There are some good signs. Dunn - was good. Enjoy his long kicking. A much maligned player by many Demon fans. I think there are a number of worse players playing now Blease - as long as you see him for what he is ie a breakout, on the burst, outsider. Works best on the wing where he can do his own thing and damage the opposition. Is improving under Craig, and will be a valuable player in the future. Garland - a significant loss, let's hope it is not long term. Will be one of our key players in the next couple of years. One of the real in field leaders at the Club. We need him back. McDonald - quiet game, and still too many blunders by foot for mine. Needs intense skill work in the offseason cos mostly gets the ball well. Kent - lacked awareness again. Although a good kick and tries hard, for mine is too slow at this level particularly at half forward. Can't see him staying much longer. Davey - has had a resurrection under Craig, has some of his old zip back (to use a Ruddism!) Gawn - max has been disappointing in the last two weeks. I think at this:stage in his career he is probably a better second ruck resting up forward than the prime mover. I think he will be good in time, but has a lot to learn. Howe - at the moment asked to play as the high marking forward. He will be much better in a hogan/Fitz/Clark/Dawes forward set up where he won't be the central target.in fact he will be devastating in that set up M.Jones - average game from him Terlich - disposal still problematic, but continues to show promise Fitzpatrick - impressive, and is an imposing figure. The biggest improver at the club, particularly under Craig. I just hope he will not be sold off at year's end for a midfielder as I think he might be in view of our potential surplus of big forwards. As I have said here in the past, let's be radical and play Fitz and watts on opposite wings - both fast, good marks, and will be impossible to match up on. Clisby - had little influence. Can't see him lasting.3 points

This is a complete irrelevancy. It is salary cap money, which we have to pay someone. Injuries happen. Who the frig else would you suggest we pay his wage too??2 points

Davey on his last legs, and very much doubt Clisby is a permanent fixture in the 22. I think to be in real contention we need to have players good enough to push out some of the remainder.2 points

I think maybe Neeld was sacked because he had won what 5 games out of 40 something, made some terrible off field decisions and had more 100 point losses next to his name than anyone i have ever seen apart from perhaps Kevin sheedy at GWS, either way he wasn't good enough. Neil craig IMO has come in and done exactly what we needed him too, united the playing group, helped the boys enjoy their footy again and has them playing around where i think we hoped they would this year anyway, with mitch clark fit and craig coaching all year we may have won 5-6 games, had a few tight ones and not been blown away, but does he have them playing out of their skin and members getting back on board? no, but he is doing okay. what you have to understand is that it would take a pre season for the players to shift to Neil craigs style and for him to get everything in place, we aren't seeing the new game style and list changes he might implement next year if he stays on, just a man trying to recover from our clubs greatest coaching mistake in a long time.2 points

Understand the desire to boost the midfield but we need someone better than Cross. His time is or is almost up. Not too much upside there. He also falls over a lot.2 points

Yep. It's Clarke's fault that the other guys are knobs, Watson refuses to fix technical flaws and we have no other decent batsmen in the country.2 points

Worried about sensible content on this thread? Well I'm just returned from the Myanmar frontier. By god it was tough going at the headwaters of the Irrawaddy. No decent red wine to be found, the Mandalay Golf Club was in poor order and the coolies couldn't wave the fans fast enough to keep me cool. The Kyber Pass would have been a better choice. BTW. Did Biffen make it back? He came up here chasing cheap drugs to onsell at the Gatwick. Doubt he made it beyond the "pinga pongas" in Thailand.2 points

There was an article in the paper today about Simon Katich, the forgotten man. Should never have been dropped when he was. He's currently in good form in English County cricket and has said he has not retired from international cricket. We could do a lot worse.2 points

Until the club knows the future of Clark, I don't think they'll be trading any up and coming key forwards. You can never have too many talls.2 points

Agree. Fitzy's just beginning to make it happen is quick and is 200cm+. Big Keeper, while I'm at it so are Frawley, Watts and Gawn. Wonder when we might here some news on this? Re trading, there are better options and an opportunities for us to clear excess.2 points

We need to seriously consider offering the job to Neil Craig, even if Roos does turn out to be interested, he has guys like frawley and watts playing some fantastic football, and he has the boys seemingly happy about playing footy again2 points
